Type R Rear Diff
#32
Its the big nut that holds the hub on the end of the driveshaft
If you remove a rear wheel its the nut in the centre of the hub surrounded by the 5 wheel studs. I can't remember the exact size but it's around 32mm. There may still be a paint mark on the nut and the shaft which should be in line with the mark on the nut where it is peened over after assembly. Mine had only backed off 1/16 " but it definately was causing the clicking noise at the rear diff area. After I had tightened all was quiet at the rear (apart from the nice exhaust noises that is)
On some alloy wheels you may be able to remove the centre cap and access the nut without removing the wheel

Thanks for your reply. I think on my alloys I can remove the centre cap to get at the hub lock nuts without taking the wheel off. Does anyone know the recoomemded Nm torque to use to tighten this up? I would rather do it in a more precise method than just trying to line up marks if it is possible or would this not be necessary?

The paint marks are put on at the factory after assembly to show if the nut has come undone. You can see these marks all over the car on various assemblies.
I don't know the exact tightening torque but they are normanlly done up to what most mechanics refer to as FT (F ing tight)

It's not really a clicking, more like a big thud from the rear of the car every time I change up a gear when driving aggresively as mentioned by some other people in this post so this may be a different problem but I will check the hub nuts just in case. It does sound more like something is moving aroundunder there. Similiar to symptoms reported by ACA and Kevin Burn earlier on in this post. This may be way off here but I do have s Scoobsport exhaust fitted. Could this be hitting the anti-roll bar or something?
