All i'm sayin is that for a car thats got over 200bhp is slower than I thought, and CIVIC TYPE R, i've raced a couple of scoobies at crail and lets just say that it wasnt me that was red faced, i'm not sayin that I beat all of them but I sat right on there bumper, it wasnt goin to be as easy as they thought it was.

Ok well look at it like this big ek. I bought my MY99 UK scooby a year or so ago and they are now cheap as chips cars to buy. I bought £900 worth of mods on SN taking her to 275bhp and recently sold those mods for £900 thus meaning they were 'free'. During that time my car was only ONCE beaten on the road and that was by a Ferrari 360M. At crail it pissed on EVERY hot-hatch I raced and that includes NOS'ed ones and even the might of Matt Dales s/c VTS. Given that the price of scoobys and that they are still nice fresh cars thats pretty good don't you think. Near supercar performance for about £8.5k You could just should pulsar at me but it will be older and they really are ONLY about speed imho.

I must admit saxo boy that I love scoobies and I am hoping to have one as my next car I was just suprised that my £3k corsa kept up with a car thats got rally pedigree and costs over 3 times as much, If I spent just shy of £10k i'd want nearly supercar performance aswell.

I see your point but you also have to respect the laws of deminishing returns. You could buy a Nova for a few hundred pounds and pick up a 2T lump for a grand or so and knock something up in your garden shed that will **** on scoobys and your corsa - but it'll still be a bag of ****. Similarly my car would (when modded) do very well against an M3 but it doesn't have, comfort, leather, 19s, trip computer, climate control, xeons, electric everything, etc, etc. Any engineering exercise, be it building a bridge or designing a car is about compromise. Strength vs weight, weight vs speed, speed vs comfort and so on. Given the price on 2nd hand scoobys they are a very formidable family saloon/fast cross-country car. Buy a wagon and you can even cart your dogs about or do beer runs to France

Are you absolutely sure he was racing you?
Here's a wee story.
On a trip to a "Hot Hatch" day at Knockhill last year I was approached by a guy who informed about our incredidble race from Powmill up to the circuit. This was a surprise to me. I was aware of someone behind me, but I was in no hurry and I was just driving at a speed I regarded as being appropriate for the road conditions. Had I known of his intentions I might have gone a bit quicker.
So just because you can keep up with an Impreza doesn't mean he's racing you. Or parhaps you were in front, driving as fast as you can and an Impreza is behind but not overtaking you. this might mean that he's just keeping up with the flow of traffic.

On another note, a few years ago I was on the A78 travelling at about 85mph when two cars went by at very high speed. I was on my Honda Blackbird at the time so I quickly caught up with them. A little V. Nova was right up the **** of an Audi at 140mph. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. When the Audi pulled over to the inside lane the Nova just shot by, and I clocked him at an indicated 171mph on my speedo. I found out later he had a big rear engined V8 in the thing.
So anyway cars aren't allways what they seem. There's allway's going to be somebody with a faster than you.

You shouldn't be racing on a public road anyway. What if you........ you know the rest!

Aye your rite there Rs Grant, at the end of the day it's a corsa a stinky wee corsa and that's that, at least a scooby has a bit of class, it might keep up yes but that would be in a straight line then wouldnt it !! and you couldnt call that much of a race.

With all due respect, why is there a griffin loving CORSA driver on a subaru enthusiast's web site trying to noise the big boy's up anyway. This will go know where !!

Put a big engine in a daft wee motor then obviously you've got a wee flyer but at the end of the day its just a (MAX POWER) corsa.I'd be quite happy with a uk scoob because its still a subaru and then as my brother done, stuck a scoobysport centre section, firestorm backbox and blitz induction kit and hey presto something to give a standardish WRX a run for its money.

LOL @ Bladerider

I know of a road legal 2l Astra on throttle bodies and MOTEC managment producing about 260 bhp Revs to about 8200rpm 6 speed dog box Quaife Diff That is quicker wet or dry, straight or twisty than my 95 STI
Power to weight and torque are the keys to accelaration Aerodynamics bhp and gearing are the keys to 150+mph runs
Psychotic driving will win every time

Jeez i can keep up with a wagon in my DHL transit on the right roads (Gelston to Kirkcudbright today about 1200) ,sorry but when im working GET OUT MY FECKIN WAY

My moral to this story :The one with the biggest ***** wins and give the one with the biggest ***** a powerful car he will try to test his car against more and more powerful machinary...................until he gets banned and by the law of averages he will get caught

Bladerider Whats the fastest you have seen on your Blackbird (private road of course) 170+ on the A78 The most i have witnessed was 178 on the A737 St james down to Houston on the back of a Yam R1?

Cheers Grant

sti-spec-a,
To answer your question about how fast I could get from my Blackbird. It was quite heavily modified and I saw an indicated 197mph. Alowing for speedo error it was still bloody quick. A bit too heavy though. Top speed is just a number you very seldom see,
so I traded it in for a Fireblade. Again, slightly modified to give better acceleration at the expense of top speed (about 15mph down from the standard bike). This one struggles to get over 160, but will get there much faster than a standard bike. Much more real world useable power for the road. My jap spec WRX is like an old bus in comparison.

some of the views here are a bit 'shallow'

I have a corsa - does that make me a burberry wearing ned?

Impreza's seem to be everywhere, and are not classy at all.

UK std ones ARE fairly slow - if you go by the hype of an impreza being this n that...

Eck - show us yer missus ****

^^^ all my opinions

I'm not gonna say anymore...

Only cos it was only this time last year i sold my Nova Gsi.
And like Adam..that doesn't make me a Burburry wearing ned.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter whos car is faster than others..
If you get enjoyment out of it..You've won anyway.

LOL @ adam - I'm not sure your car qualifies as a corsa. Its so blood stripped now its just chassis and engine that happens to resemble a corsa

Think some of these corsa boy's need to remember that although a uk sub is over 200 bhp standard and only just over at that, they have 4x4 which takes away a good percentage of that power, i have a 240 bhp standard version 1 wrx with exhaust, decat and filter so fairly standard still and i have read that import's not maped for our crudy fuel can loose 20 bhp of that power simply because of that, i hold my hand's up when i say i have raced "in a straight line in the dry" a nova valver and corsa valver and it was neck and neck till 5th and im not ashamed to say it either but at the end of the day unfortunatly like all young boy's are automaticly branded boy racer's, corsa/fiesta/saxo/106 etc driver's with warrior body kit's and flip paint job's are 9 out of 10 time's branded MAX POWER joy boy's, hell i know i was one! As mentioned earlier that sub's are not classy because they are every where, what the hell does popularity have to do with being classy i dont know. FACT, YI CANNY WACK A SCOOBY !!!!

I like impreza's

Went in with my deposit to buy a STi III type R V-limited... the bugger had sold it, so i came out owning a supra TT. So that proves i do like em but they are still not a 'classy' car... Its like calling a saph cossie classy! Classy for a bankrobber maybe!

I have a punto GT - does that make me a ned?
Does my corsa make me a ned? - it has no kit on it..... infact.... it had the std spoiler and red side stripes removed, along with its wheel arches (mainly as i lost one at crail going sideways into a field LOL ..... m'ber that foz !!!! )

Alot of folk would class impreza drivers as ned's these days... due to the cars being more common, and 'modded' by younger and younger drivers.

All the cars talked about above are in the same boat.... the impreza (old style - affordable by young folk) is just a bit faster/bigger/more expensive. I see it being the same with skylines/supra's etc - just richer 'neds' with better or more mature taste

anywaaaayyy.... basically saying.... Stop callin me a ned!!! hehehe

Just like to say my brother has a corsa with a 2ltr 16v engine conversion, and my standard impreza turbo 2000(apart from quickshift and dump valve) beats it everytime and before my scooby i had a 106 Gti and there was not much diffrence between them, the corsa and 106 would be neck and neck, and im sure that my scooby would beat my old 106 gti everytime.
