I think the WRX/Sti has marginally better performance than a classic UK turbo, a few more mod cons too, though why anyone in the UK wants aircon is beyond me (too much weight, and never hot enough for it).
I would guess the import is more expensive to run and maintain, and insure too, and is maybe more of a risk with what can go wrong.
if you wanted to mod for out and out power, the import is probably the way to go, but if it's going to stay relatively standard, i'd say UK is a safer bet.
And the performance differnce would be eaten up by a decent driver - I would fancy my chances against any standard 270-280Bhp WRX, in my 240 Bhp UK wagon, against a driver who wasn't top notch.

well what can i say(i didn't think this topic would go this big)but a big thanks to all that have replyed and given their views i will give it careful thought and let you all know when i get one which ever it maybe
