Dixons grass you up....

A chap in our office is quite famous for dragging them through the courts. It took him 7 years to stop their harassment....he genuinely does not have a tv, but they would not beleive him. Came unannounced to his house on many an occassion with warrants etc, and he would never let them in....police were always called, and had to get interdict against the warrants etc. Eventually went to court over him refusing access....
He defended himself in court, and had one of the best lawyers in the land up against him.....the judge finally threw it out of court as the judge decided the tv people did not have a leg to stand on.
I may add, he did not have a tv, so obviously is not "scum"

One would have hoped that they would learn from incidents like that but clearly not! It is that assumption that you are evading that gets them in hot water.
Their letter says:
- fair enough that is the law
It then goes on to say:
- there is no stipulation that you should have to declare or prove yourself inelligable! If you don't buy a license it would be reasonable to assume you don't need one. They can come round and check if they don't believe you!
It continues:
- Contact again? Why??? They are effectively saying that they won't believe you and will continue to harrass you despite writing to them!
The letters after that became gradually redder in colour with bigger words like "FINE", "PROSECUTE", "£1,000" all over them and on what premise?
That is why I inconvenienced them
Their letter says:
If you need a license you should buy one today
It then goes on to say:
If you do not need a license please inform us in writing...
It continues:
...so that we may amend our records. If you do this we will contact you in due course

On a slightly different note:-
Colour licence: £116
Black and White: £38.50
Licence if you are blind: £58
So, you save £77.50 by seeing it in black and white (as if anyone really has a B+W tv any more!) But if you can't see it at all you only save £58 pounds.
Beauracratic nonsense.

Sadly so, the concession if you are blind is 50%.
You can see why the BBC has made TV licensing a subsidiary to try and distance themselves and their sqeaky clean creative reputation from the dirty grubbiness of robbing from the blind!

Not defending it AT ALL, but is it not the case that only a few % of those who are registered blind are actually fully blind?
Still think £58 is £58 too much for the registered blind.

hey, if you get a black and white one
would they come and check if its colour?
couldnt you turn down the colour if anybody comes and calls?
"you mean its not a black and white TV he says excited"
