Ah this thread has taken me back, almost a tear to the eye too! I had a '91 Celestial Blue VTEC for 7 years up until June last year when I sold it to get my MY00 Scoob. What a fantastic car there's never been anything like it since and never will be. Like an earlier post said it's handling is pure go kart! You can put it anywhere and so predictable the dimensions of the car were spot on. And what a fantastic engine the noise with my K&N induction kit on as it entered the VTEC zone was pure race car! Always guaranteed to put a smile on your face! The engine is bulletproof nothing ever went wrong with it, according to Honda that particular engine has no known faults to this day. The Scooby is a great car but I still miss the CRX.
Common problems as mentioned are the syncromeshes can go (mine did!), rear hatch struts fail, water leaks through rear window washer and rusty sunroofs.
Very rare to find a VTEC one in decent condition these days though mine was a rarity with FSH, every receipt etc. People wanted to come from as far as Scotland when I advertised it. That CRX UK is the best forum for them, it's where I sold mine through in fact.
I'm off to look back through some old pics of it now... sigh!!!

Harry Bob,
I got it off the CRX forum. The link is posted above!
Where are you based, as I know of a few that are looking for homes!
I know what sounds like a fantastic condition 16v in white based in Croydon. He only wants £1500 for it!!
Drop me an email if you want, and I'll see what I can dig up.
Cheap VTEC are few and far between, they've either been to the moon and back or have lots of faults. Cheap ones start at £1700, up to over £5k for a mint low mileage one!
There seem to be ample mint 16v's for around the £1500-1700 mark!

PS - I'm 5'11" and there is ample room.
The seat is not fully back and there seems to be tons of headroom as well!
The guy I bought it off is 6'2" at least and weighs 17 stones, so most people should be ok!!

Hi Andy,
Based in West Yorks, so there's a bit of distance between us.... The £1500 16v sounds interesting, though I'd got my heart set on a a VTEC. As you say though, few & far between for a decent one.
I'm about your height, so should be fine. In fact, I remember test driving a 16v in about 1988 or so - ended up buying a Mk 2 Golf 16v instead. The CRX just seemed a bit 'harsh' in comparison, though that's something I'm actively looking for now, ironically!

I'm 6'3" and still rank my silver MkII CRX as the best car that I've ever owned. It was only a basic twin-cam 16v (non-VTec) but it was a fantastic everyday car. I bought with 72K miles and sold it on with about 115K after about 6 years.
You've probably heard it all before, but they are just as well made as everyone says they are. Plenty room up front, a decent load space, spares aren't too difficult to get (Although some Honda OE parts are a bit pricey). Insurance on the 16v was cheap (Group 12) and it returned good mileage (40+ mpg always).
Things to look out for these days... Rust... poor repairs are always a nightmare, but the rear arches can go with water trapped behind the plastic trims. Rear screen wash nozzle can let in water, rear hatch structs tend to leak (easy to replace). Sunroofs go at the leading edge and are expensive to repair and replace.
Electrics are pretty sound, but there seems to be a common problem with alternators giving up at about the 100K mile mark.
The gearbox seems to the weakest link. I've know a load of non/VTEC cars and it's always the gearbox (1st/2nd gear) that takes a pounding.
Oh, and avoind cars with stainless steel exhausts... They may sound great, but the vibes actually cause more damage to the engine.
