Gareth123,unless you have something positive to say, please keep off my thread.
It was you that sent that lawyer's letter about my lawn being the wrong shade of green and lowering the tone of the neighbourhood, wasn't it. Get a life sonny.

I think Gareth must have an incredibly small *****.
Is this where I say you eat dog doo and steal your lunch money?

I think what Gareth is trying to say is that, in his opinion, people should clear their debts rather than increase them on baubles. Very laudable, but how many people do that? Look at the personal debt figures for this country and it's quite horrifying the level of debt supported by each person. Maybe he has been caught out with it in the past and is now trying to protect people from themselves, rather like a reformed smoker or recovering alcoholic?
Exactly. Not been caught out myself but I live in one of the wealthiest parts of the planet and have seen the effects of so-called wealthy people losing their jobs. So-called wealthy. They certainly look the part - lots of expensive stuff, including fancy watches - but it was all a facade, these people were living paycheck to paycheck and servicing the debt all their stuff was keeping them in.

All hat, no cattle.

Putting aside both the taste question of gaudy watches, and the fact that Rolex watches don't actually keep time very well, if you spend $5K on a watch and you're are servicing debt you are nuts. Utterly stupid. "But they keep their value!" - a $5K Rolex will be worth $5K in 20 years time (assuming you don't mash it). Woo hoo, party on. Same $5K in an index tracker will be $30Kish. Scale that up.

If you're financially independent and you buy expensive, poorly performing watches then more power to you. If you're not then I've got a lovely watch for you, case and docs included, Puff Daddy has one just like it... limited edition. <gasps from the council estate. respect>

It's a Rolex Wankstar Oyster Geezer Edition, diamond bezel, blinged to the max, so shiny you can see it from space.

I just heard Puff Daddy has bought two more - one for his pet pitbull, one as a hood ornament for his 'Sclade, so hurry, this limited edition is selling fast! Never to be repeated, easy credit terms available...

Clearly Gareth spends all his money on psychiatrist's fees, with none left over for a decent watch! With such depths of anger, bitterness, and narcissistic contempt, he'll need untold years of analysis to deal with his primitive ego defence mechanisms. Still, it looks like he lives in the right place to find a shrink. Which SSRI are you on these days?

LOL.

Which model did they take you for then?

(You're right about California, it's main exports are fruits and nuts. I'm an import though).

Cue Hyacinth Bucket to defend her choice of limited edition Wedgewood plates, one of life's finer things.

By the way, if anyone's still in the market for one of the Wankstar Oyster Geezer Edition's you could be in luck! Puff Daddy's returned one of his - the one he mounted on the hood of his Escalade. He tells me that the price tag flapping in the wind as he cruised was "wicked distracting", so he's gone off the idea.

It's still fully documented, fully serviced, with just one clueless owner - you could be the second!

Bollox, bollox, bollox...

Here was me going to further my point (and, yes, aplogise to gareth for the ***** comment although I do still believe he has an unhealthy obsession with the whole rolex/mortgage/debt thing )

Anyway, I was going to run with some fantastic debate about the whole Rolex thing, and then Scoobynet's own king of bling and all things neon posts about being flash....

Bugger...

I give in...

D

So why not just buy a Zenith in the first place - classy, discreet, and only you know just how good it is.

I agree at least Salsa King admits he likes to be in your face and show off. I repsect that. What I have some difficulty accepting are people who claim to be buying a Rolex watch for it's time keeping abilities.

Question

NACRO, who precisely has claimed on here that Rolexes are good timekeepers? I think anyone who owns one, as demonstrated on this thread, would be the first to admit that this is not their forte.

Nine pages and still going around in circles!

I bought one because i happen to like them (shock horror!) and thats all! The fact it cost me £3.5k (which i can afford!!!) does not matter. I bought it for me and not to show off (which a lot of people on Scoobynet can't understand!!!) plus mine seems to keep good time (shock horror!!!) bar the odd second here and there.

Now thats all im going to say on the matter until i get called a mug again or someone starts going on my house or how they will support (via there taxes) me when im on the dole.

quote: "you can't deny that there a top quality watch"

quote: "Oh and by the way it keeps very good time"

That good enough for you tel?

It's a watch that doesn't keep time? Hardly top quality is it, a car that doesn't drive properly but lets people know you are a moron would be equally pointless (and they exist).

If it's bought to show off or for decoration purposes then at least I can see some point to that, personally I don't go in for those type of crass displays, I prefer the understated when I'm out and about.
