Simple facts peeps
Cosworth was a british engineering company, it was bought out by ford who are an american company, this makes cosworth a part of an american company thus its now american, even though its roots were british. I hope this clarifies it for everyone

Whats all this ford british crap? Always been an american company. If you mean its british because of cosworth that makes about as much sense as saying a scooby`s british because of prodrive.
LMAO.

Ford don't keep announcing the Focus Cosworth. In fact, they've STILL not announced it.

Auto Express like to speculate about everything and anything - and they turned a short interview with Ford into a "We've got all the details".. digging up an old Fiesta ST picture and then Photoshopping a Focus to look like a possible Cosworth.

The 4 stud RS wheels are a bit of a giveaway, but it sells magazines which is all they care about. You must have noticed they do the same with anything Subaru related!

Mike,
I always thought that FHI were the owner of Subaru and that GM only had a percentage share?

There's no mystery about why the Focus Cosworth has been rumoured for so long.......the current Focus floorpan and control blade rear suspension (one of the bits that makes the current Focus such a good handling car) can not be engineered to take 4wd, which is necessary to take the power. Ford did fabricate some mules (i.e. Malcolm Wilson/M Sport - he does have a bit of experience of Focus AWD ) but the floorpan/bulkheads are the single biggest model cost and there is no way that in the twilight of the model's years they would re-engineer the floorpan - particularly as Ford is haemorraging money and every engineering development has to be financially justifiable.

Rumour has it that the '04 new Focus (which in the pics I have seen looks like the Leon, and nothing like the Auto Excess pics) will have 4wd capability built in, but of course doesn't mean there WILL actually be a Cosworth version, only that it is feasible

Personally I'm sure there will be a Cosworth car, even if it's just a rebadged Volvo/Mazda performance car with 4WD. After all, it's never going to be a proper Cosworth and the rumours I've heard elsewhere about them re-introducing the YBT engines etc are laughable!!

The relaunch of the RS name was a great success for Ford. Selling out in months and having such high residuals means it would be crazy to miss out on the marketing opportunities of another RS or Cosworth car. I think Ford have hinted on numerous occasions that they intend to continue with ST/RS/Cosworth and the interview more or less confirmed it.. but the stuff about the specs appear to be a) AutoExpress speculation and b) Ford deliberately misleading for obvious commercial reasons.

You hardly give away your plans for a car that might not appear until 2005/6!

My guess is the interview was very small and AutoExpress expanded it to make it the cover story. The fake image just added credibility and who could ever prove that it wasn't real? If the finished car looks totally different, they will argue the design changed.. if it's similar, they can say "We showed it first" and argue it was refined!

WRONG- see below - hope this clarifies it for you Tony

---------------------------------------------------------------

I work for Cosworth Technology in Northampton. Cosworth ENGINEERING (who did the engines for the Escort and Sierra Cosworth) was split up and bought out a few years ago....

Cosworth Racing - Bought by Ford/Jaguar - Currently do F1, Rally and apparently branching into Road engines soon....

Cosworth Technology - Bought by Audi/VW - Currently do road engines (Aston Martin Vanquish, Focus ST170, RS6....) and Le Mans stuff and more....have 2 sites in the US but we are a British based company.

We have absolutely NOTHING to do with Cosworth Racing. Completely separate companies.

Hope that settles things.

Marc
