It's also depends on what exhaust housing you use on a cossie to how quickly the turbo spools up A .55 one will spool up far quicker.

Not while in 4th gear going at 30 MPH. Whilst something as moderate like a BMW 325i will move away quite easily at that gear. I told you, Cosworth's need to be dropped down a gear or two for it to move.
Hmm, interesting viewpoint but not strictly correct according to Autocar roadtests!

Standard 2wd Sapphire Cosworth 30-50 in 4th 6.1 seconds Tested 17/02/88
Standard BMW 328i E46 30-50 in 4th 6.4 seconds Tested 20/05/98

Standard 2wd Sapphire Cosworth 50-70 in 5th (top) 6.9 seconds Tested 17/02/88
Standard BMW E36 M3 Evo 50-70 in 6th (top) 7.9 seconds Tested 18/03/98

Autocar also did a full test on a Turbo Technics 270bhp upgrade Sapphire 2wd Cosworth on 30/11/98
30-50 in 4th 5.7 secs
50-70 in 5th 5.9 secs

The "feel" of the response of a turbo car will be different to a bigger engine n/a but the times as illustrated tell the story.

Check out the actual test results

PMSL @ Mike123, it's gone awfully quiet on here now!!!

You have to admit they aren't the prettiest of cars, but in their day (and a while afterwards for many), they comanded great respect on the streets for their styling, as well as their power. Now they have to reley on their power to keep getting noticed!!!

I wouldn't have one, but I wouldn't flame anyone who has/wants one.

Oh, here comes another magazine racer...

Standard 2wd Sapphire Cosworth 30-50 in 4th 6.1 seconds Tested 17/02/88

Standard BMW 328i E46 30-50 in 4th 6.4 seconds Tested 20/05/98

Autocar also did a full test on a Turbo Technics 270bhp upgrade

Sapphire 2wd Cosworth on 30/11/98

30-50 in 4th 5.7 secs
50-70 in 5th 5.9 secs
Those test results are BEST acceleration while in gear. To get the *best* acceleration in a 30-50 MPH test, from a turbo charged low displacement car, you.. *must* ..build the boost before hand - (probably applying FULL THROTTLE from 20 MPH and then timing the car once it reaches 30 MPH). Effectively you are building the torque to gain that time. In the real world, in 4th gear try punching the throttle from 30 MPH, you will get far worse than the time on those magazines, and on the other hand a 328i will apply power instantly.

With a larger displacement natural aspirated car, you can also apply part throttle. 50% throttle would use 50% torque at the revs. A YB, SR20DET or any other 2.0 litre turbo at 50% throttle in this same situation will only produce far less torque - simply because of one thing - not enough load for spool up.

Standard 2wd Sapphire Cosworth 50-70 in 5th (top) 6.9 seconds Tested 17/02/88

Standard BMW E36 M3 Evo 50-70 in 6th (top) 7.9 seconds Tested 18/03/98
An overdrive 6th gear vs underdrived 5th gear

The "feel" of the response of a turbo car will be different to a bigger engine n/a but the times as illustrated tell the story.
Read my 2nd paragraph on how magazines test for acceleration times. In REAL time, the natural aspirated car of the same maximum available power and torque will reach from one speed to another quicker. Period.

You Ford Cosworth fanboys need to get your heads out of your ***** and accept the limitations of the YB engine. It's gutless without boost.

I would respond to AL2004, but unfortunately, he doesn't appear to be speaking in English.

Not in a daily driving situation. What you described there is to improve spool in a full on race, using the lowest gear possible.
