It may be disabled, but Tools->Internet Options->Connections->Lan Settings
In there it should say something along the lines of http://proxy.????.???/???.pac
The .pac file tells your browser whether or not to use a proxy and which proxy to use because BAE has loads of different intranet sites.
It all depends on how good a job CSC do of disabling your internet connections!
Worst case scenario I suppose you can always think up a valid reason for needing it and apply.... I used to have to approve applications and you would be surprised at some of the lame excuses people would come up with... I never saw "to surf Scoobynet" though!

In the same boat m8, once it's blocked it's blocked there's no way round it.
I can't get access to SN at work now either, total bummer

Mike,
Not sure if woodford will be affected.
Dazza,
What do you do all day ?
I'm going to be lost when it happens - you can only clean your desk so many times, and I can't magic work from thin air

Wow ! Didn't realise how many Scoobynetters also work (or used too) at the same firm. Tho' probably should have, given the number of Scoob's seen around the car parks! (Some real nice one's)
This will hit me too (Warton). I only use the net at lunch times to visit my hotmail account & get a quick Scooby net fix sometimes aswell. I help a little with an Intranet site which has links to recommended external sites, guess this will go now too.
I do feel that this could be just the signs of some difficult times ahead?

Fro5t1,
Difficult time ahead maybe an understatement
There's 10,000 employees currently in air systems.
Fiqures being banded around Samlesbury are 7k to go !
I started 16 yrs ago and have been told the same message over and over - maybe its true this time but, once you've listen to the same record that many times, the words become meaningless even though you can hear the tune.
On a lighter note - why not come and join us at the next LADS meeting (15 Feb) - details are in the Northern Section - post by Trev.

I had this once.
Just find something on the web that is very relevant to your job. NB if you can't find something, then fake it!
Prove to your boss that it is an essential business tool for you.
And still bribe the IT man.

Scooby Towers . .
Didn't mean to understate the issue, just didn't want to depress myself (&others)too much. I too have been in the business for around the same time frame as yourself (+some)and worked in both Samlesbury & Warton. You summed it up well with the "tuneful" analogy. I think I heard them aswell.
On the lighter note I have seen some of the threads regarding the L.A.D.S. meet's, just not had the opportunity yet, or maybe a little reticent being slightly longer in the tooth! I will revisit the threads and see when the next meet is. Doh re-read your last reply the date is right there!!

chris/john, have a look at this
I understand that internet access is to be withdrawn from Air Systems employees in the near future. Is this to combat employees who are not working but browsing the internet instead ? It seems the wrong solution to the problem; surely it would be better for managers to deal with poorly working employees personally than withdraw a vital tool which for many of us is an essential part of our working capability?
A number of responses to Nigel Whitehead have suggested that business performance would be improved if internet access was withdrawn.
CSC have been asked to assess the feasibility of withdrawing general access while allowing access to business related web-sites eg OpenOptions. It is also recognised that certain employees need access to specific external websites as part of their roles and it is not our intention to deploy a solution that would stop this. As yet no decision to remove general access has been made or target implementation date fixed.

Fro5t1,
Come along to the next meet. You'll be surprised at the various ages that attend. (You'll probably be classed as a whipersnapper !)
Andy,
Looks like we are safe for another week
