Hello

My (3 year old) daughter speaks fluent Polish and English.

I just get by with English, and I DO expect everywhere I travel to speak English. I am writing this from a hotel in Switzerland having spent half an hour trying to explain to the owner what an ISP dial-up connection is ...

Steve.

One of the easiest things about Russian is the alphabet. Once you learn it, it's almost totally phonetic. Pity the poor buggers learning English...

If you want to learn it properly, and get the grammar correct, it can be an absolute pig. But getting up to a certain level, if you're determined, is not so bad. Worst thing in UK is few places to speak it.
