fatherpierre, your implication in response to Tiggs was that he should be using 10, and not 9.

Hence my response to enlighten the unaware of the real purpose of the lever.

agree with the above (sort of)

rowers when i was doing it (searl, redgrave) where going 5.40's

i was doing mid 50's and only based on being 6'6 and very strong.....would sink the boat as covered above

T

ps- go in ANY gym and find "plenty" under 6 though......i doubt it because thats very quick.

I had it as just over 6 mins for 2k. But that was, as I said 7 years ago - maybe 8.

I know it's geared, I have owned 3 machines and my 4th is in my spare room. I just find level 10 to be the level that hurts like **** in the last 1000m of my 10k row. A level 1 row of the same distance doesn't hurt anything like it does on 10. All effort based, of course.

Tiggs....yes, agree, you wouldn't find sub-6m in many gyms. I perhaps over-inflated the expectation

It is really based on my friend's experience at the UK & World rowing champs (he is a rower, but many are not and are just "gym gimps").

Nothing against them of course for entering the UK's & Worlds as it is just a piece of gym equipment to many, but I guess there is a snobbery amongst the "real" rowers I assume (I don't know!)

Tiggs, you seem to have a natural talent for rowing! My best for 2k is 6.20.

I'm a mere 6' 1" and 15st and only ever use it on 10. I might have a bash on 5-6 and see if I can do speed over effort.

Anyone got the new model C2? (is it a C3?)

I've got the C2 with PM2.....see no reason to upgrade, but the display on the new one does look nicer

rowers hate gym gimps

greg searl competed in a union jack leotard one year....he was way better than me but it was still cool to have a few ppl get interested in who the big guy in the golds gym vest was

Tiggs - I assume we'll find your name & time on the c2 website then?

Which year was it? UK's? World's?

nope, never took apart offically.

the year searl competed was not long after his olympics. it was at rivermead in reading (where i worked in the gym)....and thus played on the rowers while the event was on.

my name is in a the reading evening post from that year as i competed in a row/bike/run event at palmer park in reading (3 man team) which included a 2k row (which i did in 6.05 as there was no competition) and the following 2 years which we also won

i also was part of a team that took the 24 hr world row record (i assume its recorded somewhere although we only held the record for 6 months)

and i won the rivermead charity row ages ago...prob 11-12 years.

more recent i went to pulse8 in sindlesham, reading. i was (am) 35% body fat and very off my peak! but still went well under 1.30 for the 500m (well under but dont recal what exactly) anyway TIGGS was on the board for a while! it was funny actually as the instructor told me all about how the "rowers" use this level and that level and how i should copy them! made no difference to my row at all! i think he said 7 in the end?

i remember thinking "hes quick"

now im 30 i may consider trying a row when im (if) back in shape.....trying to remember if he ever got sub 6? (although i assume redgrave now does masters at sub 6?)

T

ps- still very boring!

Is this truning into a Concept rowing thread?

I'd be more impressed if you lot could actually keep up that 2K pace for 60mins and not just 6

Chip, they're about £900 new. A lot of money, but they seem to last even with lots of abuse (look in gyms). Do need a bit of maintenance every so often (oil chain etc, and perhaps new elastics/chain every few years depending upon use).

However, a great machine. Best thing is being able to compare yourself against thousands of others worldwide, any age, any distance etc.

we had three in our gym that never got replaced in the few years i was there..oiled every day and new elastic sometimes (occasional foot strap and bust screen from women dropping the handle) but that was it and they ran from 6am to 10pm every day.

After a few years of just looking at these things I decided just after Christmas to give one a go. Loved it (Always used it on 10 because until reading this thread-I didn't have a clue) really getting into it. I can do 5000mtr in around 23m 50secs. Load of crap I know, but would really like to get better. I'm going to take a look at the concept website, try and learn some more...

Don't worry about beating 6min for 2K; it'll hardly do you any good anyway unless you use it as some form of interval training e.g. 3-4 6min sprints with 2-3 mins rest in between.

Ideally, you want to wear a Heart Rate Monitor to see just what effort your putting in. If your heart rate is high enough for your 20-30 mins, then you'll do yourself more benefit than someone rattling out a 6 min effort.

To get any great benefit from exercise you have to train at the correct intensity and for a minumum amount of time. The most time I've ever spent on a rower is 5 - 10mins at a high enough intensity that my heart rate is at least 165-170+. I use it purely as a warm-up before going for a run.

Concentrate on time and level of effort rather than breaking any records. Save that for the pub (or SN)

Stefan

CLENBUTEROL.
Product names. Spiropent, Ventolase and Novegame.
20 mcg TABLETS.
100 mcg / day.

Excellent fat burners.

But they may kill you.
Do a search on the above product and have a read.

In no way would Yoza's window cleaner condone the use of dangerous drugs. Always consult a GP before messin about with steroids.

This was posted by Yozas window cleaner, and has nothing whatsoever to do with Yoza.

Later Sinbad.

Forget any of that cr@p and leave it for those that like to take the easy road through life. Slimming pills are for fat women.
