I'd have to disagree John. For most people it wouldn't necessarily be apropriate, and I'm sure some would find it difficult, if not dangerous, to drive.
TBH John, I doubt the car's really aimed at the experienced track drivers like yourself, who might prefer it, as I'm sure most of them would be in modified imports anyway.

I have to agree with John Felstead.
I haven't used my Spec C on track yet (I half intended to on Saturday but honestly couldn't be 4rsed to change the back box) but cannot understand how it could be deemed difficult, or even dangerous, to drive.
If someone found it difficult, or even dangerous, I'd actually question whether they should be driving at all.
If it is confirmed that it will have the grandma steering rack, I would recommend to anyone that is considering buying to drive something with the quick rack for comparioson. I had a go in a PPP'd Sti8 recently and it was very poor by comparison, even the dealer principal who went out in my Spec C agreed!

Yep, have to agree. The quick(er) rack could only be "dangerous" if you happened to suffer from involuntary muscle spasms or some similar sort of affliction, although of course if you did, you'd get into trouble just as quickly with a "normal" car and shouldn't be driving in the first place.

OK guys (John) dangerous probably wasn't the most apropriate word, but I still stand by the essence of what I said, and I'd still maintain that most experienced track drivers like yourself run cars modified to your personal driving preferences, and I'd seriously doubt whether that's who the WR1 is aimed at.
I would however disagree with your comments over the P1 John. OK, so you didn't like it, but that hardly means it was ruined. A couple of very experienced drivers, who were sceptical of the P1, played with my car, and somewhat relucantly described the car as 'extremely well sorted'. Like most people, I would consider myself an average driver and I was certainly very happy with it. I'd also doubt whether using the rack it was built with would ruin the WR1 for most people either.
I have enormous respect for your knowledge John, but the comments on here could have been lifted from the old pre launch P1 threads, and I can't quite understand why some people seem to be going out of their way to slate a car they've neither seen nor driven.
Whilst nobody can be sure exactly how good or bad it'll be, I don't think you can doubt it's value for money when compared to an STi, unless you know where you can buy a DCCD-A for £900.

Where does £900 come from??? Anyone who pays list for a new STI is daft, whereas I've not heard of anyone getting a discount on a WR1 (anyone?) - so the difference is around 3K, leaving DCCD-A out of the equation.

Josh, there isnt anyone on this BBS that has been more enthusiastic about the WR1 than me, so dont see what i wrote as slagging the car off. Where am i saying anything about the car being aimed at track use? All my comments are about it's ability on the road, track is just a bonus.
If the WR1 comes out with a stock STi type UK steering rack then i say that is a big mistake, not because i like to drive on track, but because it wont give the car what it needs to be a complete package. The P1 was a very compromised car dynamically, it doesnt mean you cant have a sorted one, but even sorted it's miles behind the driving dynamics of a typeR/RA. If you think otherwise you are deluding yourself.
The WR1 addresses a lot of the issues with the STi TypeUK, it finally has the correct transmition system and level of power required out of the box. If they dont give it a quickrack i will be so disapointed, it's a very important ingredient in the package.
