Simon:
If ever I have to do a search on nit picking in the future, it will bring me straight back to this thread![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
NIT-PICKING: explanation from Collier’s: “Two long-time Pentagon stand-bys are fly-speckers and nit-pickers. The first of these nouns refers to people whose sole occupation seems to be studying papers in the hope of finding flaws in the writing, rather than making any effort to improve the thought or meaning; nit-pickers are those who quarrel with trivialities of expression and meaning, but who usually end up without making concrete or justified suggestions for improvement”. The first of these two slang terms has died out, with the second taking on much of its meaning.

Just don’t start on me, PAL![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
I read some of the previous posts on here, especially from page 3.
It crossed my mind that if and when the search function is running, and I wanted to search the phrase nit-picking, it would take me right back to this thread.
I can’t believe some of the tripe that was written, It got very childish.
Just in case you were unsure on the term I quoted the meaning, for your reading pleasure.
Extract of full explanation, I quote:-
nit-pickers are those who quarrel with trivialities of expression and meaning, but who usually end up without making concrete or justified suggestions for improvement
Just about sums it up don’t you think?

Webmaster,
Have read all 4 pages here and sympathise with the hassle you're getting over this. Migrating to a new system is a major job, yet for some people who aren't in the IT industry, it would seem that you just import it all into a new program and it's as simple as that.
Prefered the old SN to start with but enjoying this one more each time I use it. REALLY needed a Search facility this evening but would much rather have a quick site with no Search than be Searching through a really slow site! Looks like you've done a good job and are resolving issues whilst minimising downtime - thanks![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Comment: In my tech support role, I've learned that communication is paramount. The IT guy that gives feedback regularly (even to say that there's no news yet or bad news) avoids being chased up by the users and all parties getting stressed out.
Your approach to make sure you have a perfect solution (not just the quickest solution) is commendable and your experience should be respected.
To everyone else: Chill out! They know how important the Search is. It ought to be done well, not rushed. As a general rule, anything related to a server will (relatively) take AGES !!

I tried the search again yesterday and it was lightning quick. As an indicator, when i first used it on this site format it was taking over 10secs just to complete the search.
It took just 0.7secs last night![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Hi All
We've switched the search facility back on, in the light of a number of performance improvements.
I won't make a big announcement just yet in-case it's swamped, but will monitor it for a while.
There is still one major step to take if this does not do the trick, but would rather just see how this goes first.
All the best
Simon
