had a escort cosworth before the Scooby for 3 years thought it was the dogs bullocks but after 3 years it was time for a change didn't know what to get, went for a test drive in a RB5 and that was it the smile was back EXCELLENT ( should have bought the Scooby before the cosworth )

Cool

In relation to cost of servicing, petrol, tyres blahdy blahdy blah...it gets the same reply as the question "how do you know when a woman's orgasmed?"

My reply "WHO CARES."

The Scoob can be the most expensive car on the planet but it would still be worth every single penny

Just wait till your engine, gearbox, suspension, starter motor & Turbo goes pop within the one year and see how smug you feel then

Cheapest quick AWD car I could get from a main dealer with warranty at the time.

I was going to get an audi S3, on the way back from the test drive there was a P1 sitting on the forecourt of a dealer for the same price... Thought may as well see what it's like.

2 Minutes in and that was it, no question... As for all the reported problems I would never own a car that expensive and that highly tuned without a warranty, hence it's just been traded for a nice new WR1...!! Something else I said i'd never do is buy a brand new car, but the temptation is too much...!! guess it's something you have to do once...

Reliability, owned a low mileage BMW 325tds se before the STi and was fed up replacing springs, shocks, bushes and ball joints. Owned 2 1.6 DL estates for about 8 years previous as second cars and was impressed that nothing ever needed replacing. Had the STi v3 5 years now and the biggest expense to date is a new battery - service it myself. Test drove a UK model with PP and then the STi - no comparison. Still haven't found anything to replace it - it's the 5 door model I have.

I needed a car where I could override the clock illumination dimmer and Subaru were the only people that provided this.

I bought my UK Turbo as it was the best compromise between performance and affordability.

I was initially after another GTIR after having one for 2 years but having to sell due to new family, mortgage etc....

However, after knowing the little blighters are a bit fragile and the fact that the baby car seat won't fit in the back of a GTIR I decided I needed something bigger.

Another down side for me is insurance. I have a DR10 which makes insuring high performance cars a nightmare and only Tesco/DirectLine/Privilege will insure me under £1000. I know some do but I'm just not prepared to pay more than £1000 a year for insurance so an STI was out at £1800 a year and any other import i.e. EVO.

As for running my car I'm very happy. Its mapped to 270/270 and on optimax I can get over 300 miles to a tank. I was surprised that the servicing costs were on a par with any other car having just spent £140 for my GFs 1998 astra for a 10K service.

Looks for bucks, dash for cash, grip for grands it cant be beat, it took 4 years saving to get it, wouldnt be without it. How many other cars offer so much for a relatively small price and can still be almost practical to the missus (she was 8 months preggers when I got mine) "course Ill sell it love, if we have to," 10 months on and I still cant get enough of it even with a baby seat in the back.

My mates dads Legacy Turbo. Lifts into town on a friday\saturday eve were fantastic in the early 90's. The first car i had ever been in that just kept accelerating hard. The rush we got from the journeys often proved better than the actual nights out in town!

Then the Impreza came out, and I wanted one from day 1. Finally got one in 2001, after saving up the pennies, worth the wait!!

I also have followed rallying for longer than makes sense, I always wanted a quattro. When group B disappeared I was heartbroken. Then a few years later, enter sideways right messrs McCrae and Ringer in a legacy. followed closely by a Mr Burns ( get well soon ) so young it looked like he'd just stolen it. What the hell was a car that big, sounding so gorgous doing here? Then the Impreza arrived and overnight all other rally cars were bland, and now I've got one, and it sounds just like them. Fantastic!

i think i fancied the Impreza from when Mr Mcrae uppped its profile, but what sealed it was the day when in my MK2 Cav SRi 130 i pulled up at the lights next to this red Scooby wagon. now i knew the figures on paper and in actual fact i was having a play with a Rover 220 GSi.

the Rover pulled in behind the Scoob. as the lights changed I'd have ignored the Subaru and continued my battle with the Rover, but for the rate at which the Scooby went away from me/us. i mean i was away quickly putting car lengths between me and the Rover and the Subaru was streaking away from me as though i was stood still.

that was it - come hell or high water, i was eventually gonna have one. and, despite thousands of pounds to date (certainly more than i paid for the car)... i am still very happy i got it and still have it its just such a cool car (even more so now its been uniquely customised)!

Couldn't afford an Escort Cosworth and a descent cossy is going to be at least 6 years old now. The MY00 Scooby was the next best thing and was available in the showroom when I walked in.

4WD. That was all I wanted in a car, cause I had just moved to Switzerland and was scared as hell about driving on snow. I had never even driven a WRX until the day I picked mine up ( not even a test drive ). I guess I am just lucky I didnt see a Justy when I went lookin at cars

I had a new 206 1.6xsi 2001 yreg,
I drove a friends MY95 uk wagon... i had to buy it....
I sold the peugeot and bought the scooby...
My friend still looks at my scooby and loves it.
Its the fact that it out handles a smaller car thats the amazing bit.

20mpg is worth it ...

I just wanted the fastest car that i could afford, so i gave 6500( gave 5 grand upfront without even seeing a car!) for a my93 wrx import, ended up k reg, but so wot. That was about 3 years ago now. Escort cossies back then where and still are stupid money, plus the 4 doors and a boot thing. And i'm going to keep it forever! Even if i do have to do loads of over time to keep it, but as they say, work hard and you get all the good toys!

I couldn`t get a kayak on top of a caterham, and I didn`t want to pay what they were asking to insure a Galant VR4, So opted for a new WRX bugeye. And didn`t want to run 2 cars.

Always wanted one ever since i saw them rallying.

Went to look at loads and then paid well over the odds for the one that was excactly what i wanted (With prodrive pack on 97 uk turbo) took the G/f with me on the test drive, you should have seen the smile on her face, now shes got one (wrx), catch her standing looking at it sometimes, she says she just loves it.

Best car i have ever (or will ever probably) own.

Hopefully when i am older i hope to own a supercar - Lamborghini or a Ferrari - but recently i have got more enthusiastic about imprezas!

oh well i could own both! if i can afford a Ferrari Enzo @ £450,000 i'm suely i can afford an Impreza as an daily car! cos you cannot drive to the shops in a supercar and have lots of shopping - where would i put it? so a Impreza Turbo (WRX) probalbly an STi would do nicely!
