[QUOTE=Wurzel]
I am a catholic not by choice either, but if I was told I couldn't wear a cross at school because jewelry is not allowed (and it wasn't when I wa at school) I wouldn't get all arsey about it because quite frankly there is more important things to worry about and think about than religeon.

QUOTE]

BTW Christians will be allowed to still wear a cross. (just not one that is soo big you wouldn't be wearing it anyway!).

Wurzel,

Do you use contraceptives? I hope you do but then you wouldn't be a very good Catholic would you. Thought you may be sympathetic what with the Orange and allor have you forgotten your history?

It's not like they've killed anyone, yet...... That comes later at the post graduate training camps in North Africa.

What has my religon got to do with it?

I am not symapthetic to any religous faith or the nutters that maim and kill in it's name.

I thought my post was fairly straight forward but obviously I was wrong.

The PC problem in this country is Succesive Governments have this almighty Chip on their Shoulder over the way the Empire treated the Subjects, so now they feel we have to bend over backwards and compensate 2/3rds of the planet with Free health care, Social services and Free housing.

Holy Ghost, well said you re-emphasised my coments with facts- I understand people on this BBS have strong views (and I am glad they do) but why do so many find answering the topic we are discussing so difficult, we are in a public debate on a chosen subject, we are not politicians nor do we expect to change the laws of this & other countries, the idea of a constructive debate is to form a 'more informed opinion' based on the combined knowledge of others, not ram often irrelevant agendas down peoples throats. IMHO.

The biggest evil threat to mankind is Bush.
So you think that if there was no Bush there would be no Fundamentalist Islamic terrorists throughout the world? Unfortunately Bush is as much a product of world events as a cause.

thats all i have to say in this thread
That makes a pleasant change. We won’t have endure the usual tirade of incoherent hate filled insults then

This is unclebuck we're talking about here. No surprises.
Whatever you say no mates.

And whilst you condemn Uncelbuck for not beating around the bush, I would advise caution and not naivety in this matter - many have got it in for us infidel scum you know, they are plotting RIGHT NOW; its also costing us BILLIONS and hampering our freedom…
Ok, I admit that I was deliberately blunt in my remarks. I get fed up with all the appeasement and walking on eggshells that seem to be required in order not to offend certain peoples’ sensitivities on these issues. In our country we have the right to freedom of speech and we are allowed to exercise it. Others are welcome to their opinions too no matter how off the wall, but they need to master the basic skills of debate before they make fools of thenselves. All IMHO of course. Oh, and that's all I have to say on this thread too.

Nah he's not according to all his supporters. I wonder what would happen if we were to make a parody thread similar to this except the exact polar opposite?

Unhappy

Taken from Holy Ghosts response: "why they cannot accept and live by the laws of the country in which they live and for which they hold a passport of citizenship".

May be a valid point; however this needs to work both ways. Whether we like it or not, understand it or not, the Saudi's, for example, ban the drinking of alcohol on the grounds of religion and culture, IIRC. I don't see much attention and respect being paid to this by our expatriate cousins who flout this request with impunity.

Diversity is to be applauded as that's what makes the human race so special. Respect for each others beliefs and cultures has to be a basic precept if we are not to continue to squabble needlessly on religious and cultural differences. Remember that some of these cultures with codes we don't understand have been around for thousands of years, well before we came along. Just because they don't fit into our cultural, ideological and religious model doesn't automatically make them wrong, and targets to be spat at.

Do we ever pause to consider how the rest of the world sees us (and I don't just mean the Arab world). Just my pennys worth, not wanting to start a flame war.

are you a woman, lostboy...??

There are very few - if any- religions that treat women equally. Its pointless singling out Islam in this respect, when in reality they're all just as corrupt and hypocritical as each other....

By all means remove religious symbology from schools. In fact, why not go all the way and remove religion from society all together???

cheers richwalk.

wackybanana - i take your point about diversity. but the french are not saying "as a muslim you cannot display icons of your religion in our society." they're simply saying "we don't allow any religious icons in our state school system whatsoever - by law - so that we can teach our children that common humanity comes before all else."

bearing in mind some of the dreadful violence still committed in the name of - and seeking convenient cover behind - religious difference, i'd say that the french are making quite an admirable and principled stand. (which i have to say, for them, is a rarity).

I think the French are just trying to appease the growing right wing nature of it's public. This is a response to a problem rather than a solution.

A crude attempt to prevent Monsieur Le Penn from getting the Presidency Next time !

Storing up trouble for the Future in France - Nothing new there then

I find it hard to accept the point that mixing people with diverse beliefs is good. It has never been good. Countries/tribes/religions formed because people of similar beliefs, race, colour etc. have evolved as a culture together over hundreds of years.

Conflicts have ocurred and are still ocurring to define those boundaries and I'm not just talking about geographical boundaries.

Take any mass of people and mix them together and they will start to arrange themselves, to sub-divide. Its human nature, inbuilt and innate and government policies are not going to change it.

That is why we are seeing more and more conflict, more dissatisfaction and intolerance between cultural groups because people who have fundementally different in-built beliefs are being forced coexist with each other, and it is human nature to resist this all the way.

Have to agree - Moses you have a fckued up view of whats oppression.

Good god I expect you have kids too who will be handed down your warped view of "oppressive religions" such as the "Unholy Trinity of Page 3" or "Spearmint Roman Catholics"

I am 100% behind that being brought in here.
ditto.

Infact I agree with bravo2's post completely. Religion is just an out-of-date way of thinking (imo), and the fact that Muslim girls in schools might refuse swimming lessons or PE as they wont take off their head scarfs is a joke. If I refused PE each week I'd be expelled from the school, and the same should be the case with them. When in Rome...

B20 - did you ever read about the Christian crusades and what so-called 'christians' did to muslims in the name of Christianity? And did you ever read about the Spanish conquistadors in South America and how they wiped out the Aztecs and the Incas in the name of Catholicism. And what about those Christian missionaries in Africa - what were they trying to do???

come on mate - don't complain about Islamic indoctrination....all us 'good christians' were doing the same kind of thing a long long time before that....

I see andrew and b20 have posted above (i really should type my replies faster or re-read before clicking send )

------------

I agree with B2O.

andrew - who are you referring to as 'us good christians' ?? B2O has stated he isn't a christian. I'm not religious either (I think someone alluded to the fact I was????). ALL religions are hypocritical and all of them, IMO blah blah, are wrong to try and enforce religion to the population. They've all got blood on their hands. What nearly all religions want is for Everyone in the world to become a member of that religion.

Dracoro - its called 'irony' mate. Maybe I should have been clearer.

For the record, I'm not religious either - but that shouldn't absolve us from responsibility for the collective **** that we're all in.....
