it wont take long at all before you stop craving those foods completely, and your mouth will be watering at the thought of a tin of tuna and some mustard... or a couple of grilled chicken breasts and a few dozen fl. oz. of water.

Milo I wish that was the case, i've tried before but the craving for sugar is far stronger than any I had for ciggies after I gave them up. The hit I got after the 2.5 days of trying the atkins was incredible, I went dowen the shop and bought a chicken and lettuce sandwich and a mars bar and within 30 minutes I went from feeling very very ill to feeling a whole lot better. My body absolutely craves sugar If I dont have it makes me feel terrible but I suppose thats the cold turkey factor, but believe me I found giving up ciggies an absolute doddle in comparison to stopping eating sugary/high carb food.

the issue was.. the reason you were feeling ill was your body was adjusting to alternative fuel. this can take up to 5 days the first time you try to get into ketosis. 2.5 days wasnt enough... a couple more days and you'd have lost those cravings as your body would be fuelled on fats.. not carbs... and you'd have lost the feeling ill too.
initially it may be harder to give up carbs for you than other things... but the cravings for carbs do go a lot quicker than you think.

Mate I couldn't go any longer because of how ill it was making me, that is why i gave up. My work werent impressed becasue it was making me that noticeably ill Some people it works for, for me it was a total disaster. It sounds pathetic and I thought it was but at the same time I couldn't go on feeling how I did for another couple of days. Thing is I have been on 48 hr starvation before when been ill with stomach bugs etc and not felt that ill!

Have a lot of sex. It burns a lot of calories and also works your tummy out. 3 times a day should do the trick.* I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet.
*Not talking about quickies here.

LOL @ sex. Afraid that never really works; just look at Ron Jeremy
Brendan,
Sit-ups are only a problem if
a) you don't do them correctly and arch your back (head-up, back straight, hands on your temples), or
b) you do them without some exercise mats (or soft ground) under you.
Markus,
You need to vary stomach exercises in oder to work different muscles. So, do Sit-Ups, Crunches, Sit-Ups (with twists), Lying Leg Raises, hanging leg-raises, Side-bends (add some weights - bags of sugar, quarts of milk or some bags filled with rocks for example.
The same applies with press-ups. Try normal ones (arms shoulder width apart) as well as close arms (make a triangle with your thumbs and fingers) and wide arms. This will work different parts of your triceps, chest and shoulders.
Again, pull-ups are great for building strong arms and back. There's loads of variation, including easy (under-hand grasp), proper (over arm grasp; thumbs on top), close, wide and even climbing style where you have one hand over, the other under facing down the bar/tree branch.
Do them slow and you'll work the muscle harder and build in strength. Do any circuits as fast as you can and you'll also work your heart and lungs and build in some muscle stamina. e.g 30 slow & steady press-ups feels a lot different to 60 secs banging out as many as you can manage.
Personally, I still suggest forgetting about radical diets like Atkins. If you just eat more sensibly and cut out cr@p in your existing diet, exercise frequently (for a decent amount of time) you can get fit and lose weight .... and hopefully enjoy it - that's the important part. If you don't enjoy exercising (and it doesn't need to be regimented), it will always be tough.
That's why I'd always recommend getting into some sort of sport or outdoor activity. You're doing something you enjoy and luckily it keeps you fit too.

Cheers Stefan. I'm pretty sure it was b) rather than a) - cheap bedroom carpet was the thickest mat I got, otherwise it was (and is) straight off parquet flooring. I didn't know about the need to keep a straight back. Mind, at 5'11" and 72kg (66 when at the height of my teens), being knobbly doesn't help...

It's Ok to bend slightly and it's almost impossible unless someone (or something holds your feet down). The flatter your back, the more emphasis is on working the stomach muscles, so it will be harder. Just try and keep your head up and your back as flat as possible.
LOL, carpet-burns are a nightmare for anyone
