Mind you, they probably think they can pop down the local vauxhall garage for the parts.

The fact that there is very few 'distastfull' Evo's kicking about (in terms of stick on tat) but god knows how many Fast & Furious Impreza's everywhere says it all.
For example: Talk about a 'flamer kit' or neons on here and you will get a pretty good reception, go try it on the MLR or GTR forums & they would probably ban you!!!
You always get the odd bad apple, but with Scoobs now the cost of a cheap Saff Cossie or a mint Escort RS Turbo then it opens new doors for people.
An early WRX is still an Impreza Turbo, whereas a ols Skyline GTs/m is a country mile wide of a GTR - about the only thing they share is the name!

Saw a 'chav' last night in a RB5, of course it had Lexus lights and it go's without saying he had a baseball cap on, white trainers etc.
He tried to impress me/goad me by tearing off. Perhaps I should have taken the bait and thrashed him in my Type R. But, I just laughed and then felt a little depressed that we drive the same car. (to anyone looking)
Most other people that I see in a scoob will wave, nod or show some other kind of recognition of each others cars, even when parked. This little **** just looked p1st off that I had a faster car than him.
I spoke to the biggest chav ever just before christmas in Pro Tyre in Poole. He was talking about his car (a 94 UK classic,) so that everyone could hear.
Without warning he started talking to me about his car. Being polite I asked which one was his. He pointed outside to a green scoob. I said "that's nice mate". He continued, "It's that Impreza out there, it's ******* fast mush! 390bhp". "Have you had it modified" I asked. "Nah, thats standard mush!, I'm gonna tune it to 700bhp." He then said "which one's yours then?" I pointed over his shoulder and said, "That black Type R over there".
He went the brightest shade of red I've ever seen, he quite literally didn't say another word. I had to use all the self-control I could muster not to **** myself laughing.
If I'm honest, a small part of the reason I'm getting rid of mine is to do with the image the car has. That and a 996

Oooohhhh don't evo owners get touchy was looking into buying one but don't want to end up like that
(have to say owner not driver because it never goes anywhere )

I must admit that the image of Scoobs nowadays is that of a boy-racers car. I bought mine because it is a 'Drivers' car, not for how it looks. I deliberately got a WRX rear spoiler on my STi7 because I personally think the huge wing looks naff. I have had it PPP'd, but I am a little embarrssed by the growl from the exhaust. I am seriously thinking of removing all the cerise decals as I also think they look naff.
I'm not having a go at anyone about their cars, but personally, I didn't buy the car for the 'look at me factor'. I got it because I love driving it.

Put it this way....
When ever I meet a true performance car enthusiast and say I drive an Impreza they seem to get a wry smile on their face these days, whereas a few years ago people really respected the badge.

How do you know that??? Do know you somehow?
Are you denying all of my statement then? or was it a little close to the truth :

One of the things that baffles me from reading this thread is that the majority of you have had your scoobs for a good while, before they became more affordable to younger people (such as me, 25 years old and picking up my MY99 turbo wagon tommorow ) yet you are now slagging off the impreza on it's standard appearence, such as the fog light! they are factory fitted, not a boy racer modification and the cerise badges on the STI, they are a subtle thing that shows the car to be what it is.
I agree that more wide-boys are starting to get impreza's but it will never be to the point of a Nova as the impreza is a rare car in comparisson. It is a car that attracts attention purely on the basis that it's an ugly Jap monster, which is an acquired taste.
Personally, I wantes a scoob since I was 15 and they popped up from nowhere in the WRC, I also am a genuine enthusiast and get so much pleasure from driving, I haven't bought one to charv around in or pick up school girls! (seems to be a whole bunch of young (18-20yr) MR2 drivers where i live ) I bought one because when i test drove a few, they blew me away
please don't tar me with the same brush as the wide-boys, believe me, I'm gonna be a waver, even if no-one waves back

Mind you the guy does have some nice tracksuit bottoms (too short) showing his white socks, white trainers (blindingly so) huge Mr T gold chain and an expression of which cro magnum man would be proud

However I'm 'chav scum' that's building a seriously high powered track/drag orientated Evo and have a very high powered Skyline R33 GTR due to arrive in the next 2 weeks from Japan.
I'm also 'chav scum' that has his own house, and a top spec Alfa 156 company car all by the age of 25..
Could you actually BE any more shallow by judging someone by how they look? I must be classic 'chav' in my T shirt & tracksuit bottoms at the weekend, but I can assure you one thing for certain that i'm not
& apart from the odd bad apple as said before, nope I can't think of any 'bad' Evo's that I have seen

Just to add my 2p's worth, a mate of mine has been after a scoob for a couple of months now and he is coming with me to my first local meet this Sunday, he's only 22, he doesnt wear baseball caps, tracksuits or any Mr T jewellery... does this mean everyone is gonna be p***'d off with me for bringing him along because... OH NO.... NOT YOUNG PEOPLE.... I seriously doubt it! (BTW im 28 - does that mean Im classed a young 'un or old 'un )
If you are genuinely interested in performance cars (of any type) what difference does it make how old you are? Are you trying to tell us that you can only be taken seriously once you reach 30+?
However, Im def not trying to encourage any bling bling or boyo's, burberry wearing hooligans etc etc cos I dont like to see it either, just trying to say that not all young people that drive/want scoobs should be thought of in the same light.
Sorry for the rant

LOL @ C
By telling everyone how much you have tells me you are a complete and utter Chav. Its typical of a Chav to try and show how much wealth they have, after all this is why they wear so much gold and sports wear with huge logo's.
In most cases less is more, unfortunately Chavs like your self just can not see that.
No problem though, gives me and Mrs. id something to poke fun at.

ID - Thats your perogative at the end of the day - it's interesting being called a 'chav' i've never been called one before
FYI - I wear no gold, have no peircings, no tatoo's, none of the sportswear I chose to wear when i'm feeling lazy is covered with huge logo's at all
But because i'm in my 20's I guess im not old enough to be enjoying a fast car without being classed a 'chav' or 'scum' with a big loan
Have a chuckle on me - I'll be the 'chav' in the corner laughing with all my 'chavvy' mates at the silly old fool trying to impress with a Impreza perhaps I could even turn round & say "ooh I owned a couple of those in my day but it looks like every Tom, Dick & Harry has one"
Regards
Chav

Lets get this right again shall we: Someone had a pop at me because I turned round & said not everyone who wears some tracksuit bottoms is automatically a 'chav scum' but according to him I am (seems im just missing the Nova to complete)
According to you I WAS 'chav scum' but now im councilite
Whats the next step after councilite? because unfortunately I cannot recall ever even stepping foot inside a Council House, let alone living in one...
Chris - Now a 'councilite' as I have debatable 'chav' characteristics.

I don't think i'm better than anyone else
However I do object to being called a 'chav' or a 'councilite'!!!!
Im sorry if I offended you with the tone of my writing, it's hard to express an opinion in the way one wants via the means of the written word.
Just making the point that Image Doctor is unfortunately incorrect
