Some of these have held their prices so well, that they are worth more than a 12 month old Scoob.
Far too many 'editions' of the Scoobs have been manufactured & flooded the market and unfortunately they are deemed as common nowadays and depreciate at an alarming rate.

There are more P1s driving the UK roads than escort cossies.

It was the same when i bought my capri 2.8 injection special, after a couple of years every young lad had one around town and it never felt that special after all, but now a "mint" one is very hard to find and how many do you see on the roads??
imho its just going full circle like every popular performance car has done maybe except for things like porkers as they still cost a small fortune to buy and own.

Bought my first Impreza almost exactly one year ago and sold it last night. I bought the car with a scooby sport exhaust minus the downpipe so it had a nice rumble to it and my friends & family immediately called me a Boy racer purely based on the sound. (was even louder when I got the downpipe )
As time went by I noticed other car drivers looking down on me (whilst stuck in traffic etc) as if I were some low life boy racer who wanted to floor it every where. In fact I am the complete opposite, wear a shirt & tie to work and a very slow driver!
Based on the last 12 months I am of the opinion that the Classic Impreza shape does have a boy racer image as these can be picked up now for £5k - £10k. The new shape WRX 2001 > does not appear to have this same image as let's be honest Subaru have almost turned this rally car icon into a family saloon with the bug eye & blob eye.
The STi range on the other hand is a completely different kettle of fish and is not in reach of a boy racers budget.
So what am I trying to say?
Basically yes, the Classic shape Impreza has become the next boy racers car, the kind of person who buys this car has worked his way up the ranks of hot hatches, is in his mid twenties, works in IT and trawls through scoobynet archives for hours at a time

Classic shape = Boy racer?????? couldn't give a toss
I have a sub in mine - not for dance/rave it is to give Queen, Pink Floyd and similar some depth.
I wear a baseball cap (not designer) as well as a wooly thinsulate and sometimes a deerstalker - cos i do
I sometimes drive too fast, but always stick to town limits!
I suppose i may look like a boy racer, but firstly i couldn't give a **** what anyone thinks and secondly i ain't a boy racer
My car is fast, but i'm sure one day i'll get blown away by some boy racer in a Turbo Nova - Am i gonna abuse him for his Kappa tracksuit? - nope! whatever pulls ya chain IMO. One day they may grow up and get an STi 15 and be a well respected member of this community.
Live and let live guys

I'm 23 and own a standard uk99 impreza (minus clear front and side lights). This car is my every day transport and I wash it jacking it up to clean the standard wheels once a week. Am I a boy racer. I never pull up at lights looking at the cossie beside me revving my engine for a race. Yes ok at 1am on the way home from work I do drive faster than I should. I still live at home with parents and this was my last attemt at having a nice car before getting a house and joining the real world. I cherish my car, wave to other impreza drivers and would note want to harm her by moddy. My point is on the way home the other night I pulled up at a set of lights and a saxo pulled up beside me completly modded almost scrapping the ground. I thought ok just ignore him. Lights green he speeds away I drive normally. Next lights him again. His girlfriend giggling away tapping on the window, lights green he zooms away, I drive normally. Gatso camera comng up he locks his brakes , slows and continues to match my speed for 1/2 mile. I thought enough is enough, drooped to second at 40 and and p****d all over him. Am I now a boy racer?

A boy racer to me is a **** who thinks the local high street, maccy dees car park, etc is a racing strip. I have seen some scoob owners being total prats. If a 19 year old wants to make his nova look way over the top so what, yeah i think it looks dire, but then he may think the same about my scoob.
Dont matter how old you are, you can still be a prat.
When i first passed my test we all had mk1 escorts looking like mexicos, how many do u see now?
Oh, and i think mr middle managment is his M5 (look what i have you scum) is a dam sight worse than any rusting corsa with bits of tupperware bolted to it and looking like blackpool illuminations. I have seen more idiots in bmws than scoobs (i sold my 5 series cos i was sick of the attitude i got).
Final note, if any one takes a can of bright blue or yellow paint to the dash they should be flogged however.

Back to the original point, one of the reasons I sold my MY02 STi Type UK is because of the image of the Impreza. Yes, you can say I don't care, but personally I didn't want to be bracketed with the same image as Chav boy in the eyes of the public.........

Don't stereotype me when you don't know me , but:
Went from the STi to a VX220 Turbo (either "hairdressers car" (well, actually, an STi eater on either road or track ) , or "but it's a VAUXHALL " )
Sold the VX when my wife died in Sept 03, and inherited her Seat Leon Cupra R (damn good car).
Was going to have the R remapped, but when the roads started getting slippy around November I missed the last three years of Impreza ownership (but not the image ) , thought a remapped R would be even worse, and wanted to go back to AWD. I also wanted a hatchback so it was a choice of two - Audi A3 and Golf R32. The A3 is pants and the R32 isn't, so it was a choice of one. Got the R32 in November, and AmD remapped and re-exhausted it a week later - 272bhp on the rollers.
It is a damn good car, and I like it better than the STi
Feel free to flame away.....

I DONT CARE
WHO GIVES A TOSS !!??!!
I drive my scoob cos its my car of choice. I dont care who else drives them.
My only requirement in life is that my car doesnt look like the next one. a few personal mods and its yours.
I can see that scoobs are more affordable to the younger generation now, and will probably be a big factor in insurance rises for the impreza range.
If you drive like a **** then you will be labelled a ****, or a boy racer. doesnt matter what you drive. lets hope that sites like scoobynet will help young owners new to the scooby range adjust their street driving and encourage track usage.

24 years old, IT consultant, home owner, UK MY99 Turbo driver, spend far too much time on Scoobynet trying to learn about the car.
However if your comment was intended to be derogatory, I have to say that I am proud of these things, not ashamed.
As has been mentioned in several posts on this thread, its all about your attitude on the road. I prefer to use the term 'aggressive driver' to 'boy racer' - I am neither. However, aggressive drivers come in a all shapes and sizes, ages and walks of life; and more importantly (for this thread) drive all kinds of cars. A colleague and an aquaintance of mine drive a BMW M5 & a Nissan Micra respectively. They both drive more aggressively than I.
Therefore your attitude has either to be pity for the fools that endanger themselves and others on the road, or to be aggressive yourself and join in. Having lost a friend to a road accident the choice is easy for me.
Maybe we are too quick to notice aggressive scooby drivers when there are just as many aggressive drivers of other cars to be aware of. I agree people may tar those sensible drivers among us with the same brush as an aggressive driver simply because we drive an aggressive looking car - but only a shallow person really cares about the opinion of someone they've never met. Personally I dont give a ****.

I purchased MY99 when I was 22, through alot of hard graft. What disapointed me was the amount of really old people driving the car and giving it a bad image. The guy I purchased the car from was retired and that seemed to be the norm.
I still believe from the people I meet that it is still an enthusiasts' car. Yeah there may be a few bad apples but you get that with all cars.
Even saw a TVR Cebera when I went down to get a MacDonalds the other night. He was sat there with all the local boys racers and has his car done up as such...does this mean we shouldn't purchase TVRs as they too have a bad image?
If you purchased the car as an enthusiast then chances are that most other scoob owners did too.

I bought mine because it's a fast and practical four seater saloon. Enough power and a decent boot.
Sometimes I drive smoothly, sometimes I "give it some", depending on mood. I do the same in the 996, and I couldn't care less what people think.

HEY nothing wrong with neons i have 7 out side of my03 wrx, dump valve and the correct stickering on the rear side windows. scoobs not a boy racer car but a pure bread street race car.

It all comes down to socialisation and if you aspire or not to surpass this. Without the knowledge of what is available people will not develop past their current stage.
The internet is going to have a more far reaching impact on society then anything else in the whole history of mankind except perhaps the invention of a language/alphabet.
We can all look and laugh at someone who we perceive to be below us, but we should not forget that there will always be someone who is doing this to us also.

Clear light clusters are shocking. They almost work on the Lexus but on everything else are just fappin awful.

I'm not surprised that an Impreza is a boy racer's car of choice.
Very much like 80's Ford cosworths, they have attributes such as:
- It has a TURBO = Bragging rights
- Big spoiler = makes your car "stick to da ground" at 120 MPH
- 16 valves = 16 means fast, 8 valve means economy.
- 2 litres = BIG MOTA!
- 4 doors = To fit all me mates and look macho
- The Impreza/EVO & Cosworth gutless power bands ensure that the boy racer will always overtake in 1st and 2nd gear all the way to 6000+ RPM.

I have a my99 uk turbo, i am 38 years old, married kids etc.
The car is my everyday vehicle, i cover approx 30k miles a year.
Do i care about the image - No
Do i think its a boy racers car - don't care
Does it make me smile when i drive it - Yes
I should have had a corporate Bavarian armchair but I opted out to get what I wanted and not become a senior management clone.
I like driving, I like the thrill of driving. The Scooby is an interesting car to drive, much more involving than the average oil-burning wardrobe on wheels.
Would I get another - Yes (shortly)
