So were the two E46 M3's and they had traction control and RWD. As you well know, Santa Pod in January is like an oily ice rink, even you were getting some silly wheelspin with 4WD.

Give us a decent level of traction and low 13s are quite possible.

JohnS has timed his 0-100 at 11 seconds, which is exactly the same as my 355 (which has done a 13.3 at the Pod).
My understanding is that the fastest timed coupe was 'beast' @just under 13.8secs?

BTW doesn't John have in the region of 400bhp?

Bob'5 - JohnS was putting out about 350 (will be 400ish after his rebuild). I'm pretty sure he's seen a low 13 at Crail or York. Everyone knows that Santa Pod is like a greased eel when its cold, so FWD are always going to suffer there.

However, I've said previously that standing quarters are not what the Coupe's about. Standing miles, maybe. Real world driving is say 40 - 100+, which is where the Coupe excels.

For the record, I timed some Coupe acceleration yesterday (boost set to 1.1 bar - can go to 1.4 if I want, but the clutch has now done 90k, so I'm being careful)

60-100 - 5.62 seconds
40-100 (3rd gear only) 8.59
40-100 (2nd & 3rd) 8.04
0-100 (12.89)

All figures were produced with 12 year old son sat in the passenger side, hitting a stopwatch on a 3-2-1-GO! command (so there's aboviously some room for error). However, I video'd the lot and I've timed them all again, and the times are all within a quarter of a second.

Chuffed with the last figure, as I got too much wheelspin and bounced off the limiter in 1st gear. More to come

Quite chuffed with the first figure too - should be more than a match for a fair percentage of Scoobies, shouldn't it?

Not sure - was dyno'd at 210 at the wheels at G-Force, but that was running the original 88,000 mile turbo, which was smoking quite badly. I was running 1.25 bar and max power came in at just 5,500rpm (because the turbo couldn't hold the boost after this). G-Force extrapolated this to 280bhp @ the flywheel, but that would equate to 25% transmission losses, which is too high for a Coupe. I reckon about 260 would be closer to the mark.

Since then, I've had a T28 hybrid fitted (with Sunny GTi-R compressor) that holds whatever boost I want, right up to the redline. I reckon I'm now probably in the region of 280bhp - maybe as high as 300 if I wind the boost up a bit.

Looking forward to a top speed run, as the car went off the 160mph clock with the old turbo. I imagine I'll simply run into the rev limiter, which gives a clock 175+ (depending where the limiter decides its going to be - seems to vary from car to car )

All this for £5k for the car, and less than a grand on mods - surely no Scooby can beat that

If I recall a few years ago Andy F bought an M reg WRX RA for about £6k and spent £1k on carefully selected mods (you can get M reg RA's for cheaper than that now!). The car ran 11.8s at Crail in that state of tune and was hitting 100mph in about 8.5-9s I was in it and it is categorically the fastest vehicle I have been in ever!!!

I recently sold my scoob and wanted to buy something cheaper but still fast and fun, so i bought a fiat coupe 20v turbo. It is fast, pretty even to the scoob and its fun. I like the look of them too. I loved the scoob, it was nicer to drive. I will be buying another scooby, i think its the better car. But for now i will just have some fun in the coupe. Dont understand why people get so bothered about these threads, there 2 different kind o cars with there own plus points.

Dakin1 - you're one of the VERY few people that are truly able to comment on this thread with any real degree of accuracy.

Many of us will have driven each other's cars, but very few will have actually OWNED both.

The cars aren't just about how fast they go / stop / corner, but also what they are like to own. Its the whole package that "makes" a car.

Having said that, the two superb owners forums / clubs obviously play a great part in how enjoyable the ownership experience is. What would we do with our time if ScoobyNet / FCCUK wasn't around?

I have driven both but own neither, to be honest I prefer the Scoob to drive but the Fiat has a bit of style wheras Scoobs are turning out to be a bad boy motor, I drove a T reg 20 VT and a Scoob Terzo with a big exhaust, the Fiat was without a doubt quicker but it was fairly new and the Scoob was owned by a lad who ran it short of oil, put normal unleaded (as was the Fiat) in it and generally liked the image but didnt have a clue about the car, so I suspect it may have been a bit below par, in fact my Volvo T5 felt as quick.

Love all the facts and figures, why dont you start comparing anoraks next !

Well guess what, I just gone done and bought one !

A Fiat Coupe Turbo, 99 on the V with 52,000 miles. Its in a light mettalic purpley blue (Portafino blue I beleive) with Black leather, immaculate really, bought it from a local dealer, a bit pricey at seven grand but having seen some right tubs privately I am happy to pay a bit extra for a nice one. Only drawback is that it doesnt have air con but then again its a Fiat so its one less thing to go wrong I suppose and less weight = more performance. Pick it up on Saturday !

See you on the Fiat Coupe forum soon then.

Bets on how long he can last without gentle mods.

Supersprint exhaust - that'll do.

Hmmm - maybe a PBV - that can't harm

Mind you, the Novitec chip works great with a PBV - might as well

What? the hybrid Group Buy is only £420+VAT - why not.

Intercooler - Ooo suits you

Its a looong and slippery slope, but its ever so enjoyable

J4CKO - whereabouts in the country are you - there's a dyno day at Powerstaiton @ Cheltenham on 20 March - always a good turnout

NigelO, whoa there big fella, if you knew the aggro I had to go through to get this car you would realise that mods are not an option at the moment (though tempting), the finances will need to stabilise a bit before I do anything but I cannot wait to get it on Saturday, it is beautiful.

I am in Wilmslow (Cheshire) near Manchester airport, might be up for that but on previous form I will be told its down 20 bhp and needs five grand spending !

I will appear on the Fiat Coupe Forum but Scoobynet is my favourite even though I went for the Fiat.

Last Fiat we had was a 500L, hope the FCT 20VT is better than that was.

"The coupe is an exceptionally quick car, even in standard trim, with 0-60 in 6.2, 220 BHP"

Thats all i had to read about Fiat coupes. How did I laugh, a massive 220 bhp and 0-60 in 6.2, that simply is awesome, where do I chop in my 276 bhp (before the decat ) and 0-60 4.6 P1 ROFL

I agree however you could always chop in a for a proper car, RWD car with no ABS, traction etc that would **** on a P1, say a TVR Cerbera for example...

The "proper car" you mention would spend more time in a garage with its bonnet open than doing hard mileage.

Anyway, my chest isn't hairy enough or my head bald enough to own a TVR.

See you in the rain.

Thats right. Real men wear tartan caps and string backed gloves not baseball caps like P1 owners. Bet they are clothing accessoris in TVR dealers, along with a warm coat for the hard shoulder time in winter.

Interesting. Just looked up TVR Cerbera on exchange and mart. Most mileage car on there had 40,000 miles, for a 5 year old car.

Not bad you may think, a TVR with 40,000 k on the clock, then you read on and it says "factory rebuilt engine" PMSL

I so want a Blackpool bodge job.

Sound familar?

Well I owned one a few years ago, to many faults to list, do a search have posted them before....They are just a step up from a kit car IMO, I'm a design engineer by trade and couldnt believe the poor engineering and design on many components, and can see why they are unreliable.

Mine was a 97 P 4.2 V8, crude steering and handling, however very very fast however the dealers ans the factory were very poor, didnt even get a reply to a letter sent to Peter Wheeler...

Off the road more or less 6mth in 12mth, when the engine went bang for the 2nd time it took 17 weeks for them in Blackpool to fix it...

If you do get one make sure its from a dealer has a warranty and is the newest car you can afford, the early ones had lots of problems..

I know 3 other ex TVR owners that would never ever own a TVR again..

Yes it's what you have posted up previously. Now I know where the anger comes from PMSL

Do your homework

Yeah, I so laughed when the only thing that went wrong with my P1 in nearly 3 years was a new battery needed (replaced gratis warranty)

I bet you got out even less in the 6 months you didnt have your car PMSL

ps. what does 'reakoned' mean?

The Scooby is certainly more unreliable than the coup and finally, if you're talking about modding - check out forum.fccuk.org, there you'll find coupes with 400BHP, ones with blue-printed engines, cars that have had 40k of work and some that do 0-60 in under 4.3 seconds with ease!

Suburu owners are proving as pathetic as their cars!

Hmmm person with BIIIIIIIIIG chip on shoulder
Right, let me put you right in all the places.
Scoobs unreliable.... well they are more complex to service, but in standard form you will find that scoobs are very reliable, just look at Harveys 585bhp car, a daily driver and no problems, mistreat them though and they, like any car will fail (including fiats).

Blueprinted engines... so you own a formula 1 car then?
If you actually knew what a blue printed engine was then you would know that by the time its done 500 miles its pretty knackered, this must mean that fiats are very unreliable if they have this done to them as they will need rebuilding before they run in.

400bhp coupes and 0-60 in 4.3 secons, i only need a little over 300bhp and i can do this 400bhp and no engine rebuild so.... your point still is????

Rattles... well an improvement on the old fiats but still not as good as they should be, i know a lad who bought a 97/8 r reg fiat bravo, had it 2 weeks and it broke down, no doubt my ford mondeo with twice the miles and 3-4 years older should have broken down before his then again...

Tony
