Difficult one this. I'm aware with my car that it can be loud (MY01 with Scoobysport system) - not as loud as some I've heard - by a long way. I know that when I start the car in the garage it does vibrate through the house (town house, so the garage is below the lounge). I didn't realise how much until I was in the lounge and Sal backed the car out of the garage!!

It's got to be worth trying to sort it out with your neighbour first. I've lost count of the number of times I've been woken at very early hours by noisy diesels (particular in the winter when they are left to idle while they scrape the ice off the screen ), but I know I'm not in a position to complain and nor would I. That said, I could listen all day to my neighbour's 996 with Porsche sports exhaust system

You've got to live there, so it has to better to sort this out rather than getting arsey about it.

Chris

take it to the test station m8 ask them for a letter thats its passed ,ie noise and all that than take that to the knod next door and and nail it to his/her nose(and take a copy for the council)

if its passes an mot there is nowt they can do and if u are under db108 then u are fine

We all need a bit of give and take, some exhausts are VERY nosiy and the offbeat bassy scooby sound does tend to carry.

Trouble with noise nusance, once you get disturbed by it, you notice it even more and being typical brits we get more and more annoyed then tell the council rather than having a freindly chat first.

Just because an exhaust is below a limit, it still can be legal a noise nusance if you (and this is not aimed at anyone), rev it hard and often. The eviromental bods make a judgment based on levels and dynamic range at the complainents location regardless of the source, its nothing to do with traffic laws.

When I investigated my abatement order (issued in error) it is not a police issue, it is an environmental health issue, you need to discuss it with the local council officers to get the lowdown.

Eddoe
Now that you've explained your start/stop etc regime it does appear that you are unlucky and found yourself close to a sensitive neighbour (Victor Meldrew?)
Your post has, if nothing else, highlighted the problem of noise emisions generally. We really do have to be sensitive to the views and opinions of others. What is acceptable to one person is unacceptable to another. Having been involved with radio controlled model aircraft (fast, aerobatic) for many years, I have experience of complaints from the public and the percieved nuisance limit. In this particular discipline we have reduced the noise level to an amazingly low level but retained all the performance. Noise is not nessesarily a pre-requisit of performance, we just like to think it is!

I agree with Chris.

I myself had a full decat Scoobymania system on my scoob, chosen because its one of the alleged quieter full decats. However its more basey than most, I didn't realise how basey till I popped back into the kitchen whilst the car was ticking over on the drive - glassware rattling in cupboards, amazing bass collected by the back door.

I could not believe how intrusive it was.

Car now sold, replaced with Westfied with repackable carbon exhaust - that needs repacking, even louder (at the mo) but no more rattles.

My neighbours have been fine so far

BTW 'handbag swinging' in Scoobynet? no way! LOL
