Airlines are popular, but with CONSUMERS, because they're CHEAP, and take you on HOLIDAY. Try having 2 weeks off work in Thailand and NOT going by air. See how far you get before your boss is on the phone, asking why your not in work!
As for aviation tax, another great idea. Up the price by 100%, price 40% of the population out of thre market place, and watch the aviation industry implode, and dump thousands on the dole.
I spent 8 hours Tuesday listening to a Professor of aviation explaining about Bermuda 1 in 1946, and Bermuda 2 in 1977. The industry is protectionist, nationalist, and driven by emotion.

I understood that a metal nail file was used on one of the Sept 11th planes to gouge out the eye of one of the crew to show the terrorists meant business. This was not widely published. Hence the very sudden change in policy at all airports immediately afterwards.
