I have to be honest if I had spent 50K on a car, I don't think I would push it towards its limits apart from a track like Bedford.

cheers simon

ps Cem, how you doing? long time no speak. S
Simon
Thanx mate glad you enjoyed the ride
I am expecting 1 or 2 rotations before getting to grips with the GTO3R but I am sure it will be very grin inducing in the process
If you make to Bedford on the 27th you are more than welcome to come out for SPIN (probably)
See ya there
Steve
Cem, I look forward very much to going round in the GT3 it is still one of my favourite wagons despite my experience with Porker staff

The only problem with Porsche depreciation is that everybody compares what they paid for it against what the dealers sells it and not what the dealer will buy it off them for. Can assure you that most Porsche dealers or stealers as I prefer to call them will offer around £10K less than they will sell for. When I bought my 02 996 C2 for £62K when it was 6 months old and decided to sell it 9 months later the sorts of offers I was getting from dealers was about £50K so in that sense a Porsche can depreciate by £12K in 9 months!! The days of them being rock solid investments are over!!!

One of the recent journals calculated the GT3's to have a 5% yearly depreciation rate - compared to 45% for something like a Maserati. A 5 year old '99 model GT3 is still selling for £60k - £3k a year depreciation.
It's true that the Mk1 996 GT3 held it's value well, but the same is not necessarily true of the new model. Tom Hartley had one with 300 miles on, and £10K off list this week.. now bearing in mind that dealers like to put about £5K across these cars, the seller must have lost £15K at a minimum. Other Traders may sell cars for over-list (if you ignore the actual price of the car with options), but they sure aren't paying over-list to sellers.

10k off list at 300 miles?
Surely a jest? Point me to this please, if it matches my spec, I'm cancelling my order.

Right, just got off the phone to them. The car went for £80k! Had about £8k worth of extras (including PCCB, which has terrible press right now) but still, not bad going for a car that retails OOT for £76k!

It's also a well known fact that selling a car directly to a dealer is the worse possible way of returning funds on a car. I can only imagine what the dealer would have given him for any other car.

It looks like it's been sold, I posted about it last Friday HERE. Actually it was 150 miles rather than 300. Give Tom Hartley a call and see if they still have it.

Edited to say: Just read your new post Cem. I don't know the exact spec of the car, I just remember the advert saying "Fully loaded, this car was £88K new, now £79K". That's what I was basing my comments on. Someone did lose a fair wedge on it (£10,000 in 150 miles), even if the options were questionable.

The problem with "this end of the market" is that often people won't buy a used car from a person, preferring to pay top-whack from a dealer, with the peace of mind it's (supposed) to bring. So often you find you only have a dealer who will buy it

Thats true - like I said in my previous post my dad lost loads on his C4 - he couldnt sell it privately for love nor money and it was a fantastic example in terms of mileage and condition. It may actually have been Tom Hartley that he sold it to in the end, as they offered the best price and he needed to get shot for his new car. Judging by advertised prices for higher mileage but exactly the same spec, 10k at least would have been put on the car when it was put on the lot.

I also had a radical on track at the same time as me. My god it was like watching a scalextric car going around corners, making absolute mincemeat of westie megabusas etc!!

I am seriously considering a ' proper' track day car when the scoob goes next month.
Ed, Was it a silver Exige closely chasing a silver Noble by any chance?

No, i have been to plenty of trackdays thankyou, as you well know. Bans wise i am banned from Bedford only, just like your and my friend Docjock plus quite a lot of respected people on this BBS are, and for no reason other than telling the owner to treat people with respect, again as you well know. I dont make a habit of picking up bans as you seem to be implying.

Below the belt is what i have come to expect from a certain group of people i used to associate with. Shame really.
