Anyone ever had an endoscopy before?

I had this done -- was going to go for the spray, then I looked at the thing they put down your throat. I was expecting a slender bit of optical fibre -- no chance! So I went for the sedative -- tried to count to ten after they did it, got to about 4. Woke up in recovery

Hi Claire
I had one when I had acid resurgence. You have the choice of anaesthetic throat spray or a sedative. If you have the sedative you can't drive your car home if thats how you go there.
The tube that you swallow looks worse than it is, as soon as it is past the top of your throat you can hardly feel it and the nurse makes sure you don't move during the examination. The examination is not so bad and it is soon over too. I had the throat spray and that was not so bad either. Good luck with it anyway and when it is done you will wonder what the fuss was about. It certainly was not painful.

Had it done twice. Went for the spray both times. It was hard trying to swallow it down at first, because with your thraot being numb from the spray, you can't seem to swallow properly. Then, with ll the air they pump into you, you start burping, which rattles the tube in your throat, making you want to gag. Did give me a sore throat both times mind you.
Was very surprised when I saw the 0.9m mark on the tube going in my gob!!! They're handy the measurements on it, just do you know how deep they're going. Lol.

I went for the spray when I had a suspected ulcer. I admit it wasn't much fun and it the spray did taste a bit nasty but you walk out as right as rain with a little bit of a sore throat. Went straight back to work afterwards and carried on as normal. If you go for the sedation route you are going to be writing of at least a day through feeling groggy.
I'd rather go through 10mins of discomfort than waste a whole day.
