So, the P1 is still the Daddy

There are about four P1's that I know of in my area so I suppose that means they are either popular or common depending on your point of view.
Personally, my ultimate Subaru would be the 22B.

Impressive to see the P1 up there holding company with some serious metal.
My ultimate want since being a little un was always the 911 (993) Turbo and to see the P1 above that was great.
The fact that I got a P1 at a reduced cost of over £6K makes me feel even more proud (STI 5 Type R!!!!!!!)

Like I say, nice spoiler... keeping my Type R ... Imports.. They are all imports anyway
TFI Friday - weekend cometh! Have a good one all.
Time to peel the road crud of the car & treat it to a cheeky bit of pampering methinks...

Drove both - Personally prefer the Type r, quicker accleration and alot more 'raw' than a P1. You could argue that you need to be a 'better' driver to take the R to the limit, due to no abs and dccd. But the main factor which comes into it for most ppl is the cost, a mint V5 type r can be picked up for around 13K rather a P1 will cost 5-8K more....and alot of ppl cannot afford this.
the new sti's (UK) hummm, dont even feel that quick in unmodified form. dunno about the PPP ones.
Jap imports all the way IMO.

I think some of you are missing the point completely.
The reason EVO love the car is because it is involving and gives the driver feedback that is missing on later models.
No mention is given that this is the fastest Scoob in town. I'm sure it's not.
Driver enjoyment is why it's being rated so highly.
Certainly has put a smile on my face every time i've driven it for the last 3 years.

The Classic IS the best looking Impreza out of the lot, the MY01 FUGLY is unsaleable, the latter change has made it slightly easier on the eye - BUT the Classic is THE one that shook the world and its THE one everyone knows and loves!
The P1 was the UK Impreza Coupe - why buy one when the RB5 is so superior? AND offers 4 doors!! Nice Gunmetal paintwork too! P1 Blue isn't bad and the wheels (if NOT Gold) are great!
Pete
Edited to say, I always thought the ONE Daddy was the 22B?

The spec C never went by me and you can see by the following laps i was nowhere to be seen.
i dont believe you get a better bang for your buck

I take it you dont know alot about the P1 then?
The map the P1 uses has an inherant weakness, its called a lean spot, decatting it will enhance this weakspot and cause (eventually) catastrophic engine failure... id just thought id let you know
Now i own a Spec C (MY03) and its considerably quicker than a P1, it has a considerably better ecu, a considerably better engine, a considerably quicker turbo (rollerbearing) and handles better than the above car (if not a little livlier )
My car is heavier than a P1, but then again its also better built and has a slicker 6 speed box and decent brakes over the P1's 5 speed and 294mm subaru items (even my rear discs are bigger than these )
You then also have to remember that the Spec C is a "Production car" where as the P1 isnt, its been altered to the spec its now in.
Now as for looks... i came from an MY00 PPP'd turbo to the Spec C, and i prefer the looks of the Spec C to the classic shape, its just a nicer more up to date looking car, and looking at a classic parked next to an MY03 and the classic looks like an OAP (well in car terms it is) and its been left back in the mid 90's technology wise, the newer JDM STi's are up there in the 21st century now, its just a BIG jump forward and has now turned the Mistsubishi/Subaru game around as nothing competed with the Evo for a long time (P1 included).
Sorry to say this people but there is only one "real" Subaru thats now an enthusiasts car, and thats the JDM STi (MY03 onwards) (Spec C at the top of the list of course ).

I'm so glad i'm not the only one who thinks that Classic's look, well 'Classic' .
Against any 01 models onwards they are sooo dated.
This is not going to die as there will always be the i'm better than you,as for the P1 licking a Spec C on track, well how do you know the Spec C wasnt being run in and with any track driving the driver counts for an awfull lot.

The Spec C is a JDM only car, it takes some getting use to driving as its lively at the best of times, it handles like a dream though (in the dry due to the Bridgestone RE070's, they are not really that good in the wet so worth getting another set of alloys/tyres). You dont get anything in the Spec C though, unless you get the limited but you do still get the important bits, quick rack steering, intercooler water spray, A-DCCD and a roof vent, no electric windows, mirrors etc but you do have ABS and EBD but you have to run the car on super/optimax plus octane booster. These are also very tunable engines, much more so than the previous STi's, they are twin scroll (which you cannot get over here on a uk car) and have equal length headers (but these produce better performance and high ammounts of torque, ie 230lbs at 2400 rpm. If the Spec C seems a little too sparse then there is the GL model, the engine is the same but you will need the drivers pack (A-DCCD, quick rack and tyres) as these are an optional extra in japan.

So I take it you have bought one Tony?
Sounds sweet that does! Does it run ok on the octane boosted Optimax then? Is there any way of mapping it for 98 Ron or would you lose too much power?
Its either that or the Evo VIII FQ330, I dont think its gonna be until next year anyway!
Cheers

Hiya Stu,
Yup ive got an MY03 Spec C, she runs absolutely great on optimax and octane booster, no det/knock whatsoever
Bob Rawle had his PC linked upto another one last sunday on a rolling road (Prosport) and that was running optimax and octane booster, no knock either
Bobs car though is the GL version, hes got it up to 350/350 and running great with only an STi filter AFAIK, no hassle for either the turbo or engine but hes the man to speak to about mapping these really

Stu,
Check out www.litimports.co.uk
Iain is well known and respected and has been importing cars for quite a few years now, his spec c's have featured in EVO mag and now there is the Type 25, a bit of a monster 2.5ltr US engined car

Hmmmmmmmmm
I wouldn't take too much notice of what EVO say, they change their opinion more times than you probably change underwear.
A couple of issues ago they were proclaiming the Spec-C as the finest Subaru of all time and now this...!!!!!
What a load of dribble, sorry but I would take an STI8/Spec C or WR1 any day of the week over the old car.
Don't have one tho, got a proper drivers car instead (Noble GTO 3R)
Adios

Soon I will be looking to change and there are only two cars that take my fancy the Spec C and EVO-FQ330. There is a white Spec C near me, it looks/sounds fantastic god only know what it is like to drive but I hope to find out soon.
