Omnipotent being? If god is omnipotent, can he create a weight that is so heavy that he himself cannot lift it?

of course he is omnipotent but what u are suggesting is silly

is like me saying u give birth to a kid yourself it sounds stupid

and also God is omipotent and someone asked me if he is he can create another God and that God was jesus his son or himself

i laughed and i said thats so stupid

how can God create another created, anything he creates is a creating thing so he cant create another uncreated

u know what i mean it sounds silly

but drac u made me laugh, nice one

Leslie,
Exactly the point I made earlier (maybe not in this thread, I cannot remember). Although I am no fan of organised religion, they are not bad per se, they just have bad people who use them to hide behind and further their cause.

The same is true of athiests like Stalin and Pol Pot, they are just evil people.

Religion serves no purpose but to give humans hope, because the human mind finds it difficult to accept that after death there is nothing.

'I think therefore I am' - we contemplate our own existence, no other creature on earth can do this, so they don't worry about what happens when they die, becasue they don't know what death (or indeed life) is! U bet that if anything else on this earth develops intelligence on a par with us, they will come up with creationist theories, but if we are around to witness it, we will be able to tell them they are wrong, because we have been here watching them evolve.

There was no one to tell us this!

Oh gawd, here we go again, another thread on God

Moses,

I'm as close to being a Muslim as you are an atheist! Trust me.

No book or conversation could convince me to believe in anything so ridiculous as 'God'. No proof and no grounding, apart from a 'story' written thousands of years ago. A story so changed, translated and written into modern parlance as to be completely lost from the original.

As I said, there's more proof that aliens exist than there is of the existence of God. As stated earlier, animals and simpler life was here millions of years before us. Science de-bunked most religious theory years ago, only your 'blind' faith leads you to ignore most of this fact. Blind being the operative word. Because you are blind, blind to the real world around you.

Leslie. well put and I couldn't agree more. Except in one part.

I do feel that religious believers, whatever the faith, are weak.

Weak in the belief of their own humanity. As also stated earlier, some humans struggle with the thought of finality. You die. The end. Some minds NEED to feel that there is some purpose here, or what is the point?

Funny thing is.. there is no point.. we live and then we die.. why is this belief so scary? Where is the proof to the contrary?????

Religion caters well for that NEED, and hypocritically, has changed over the years to reflect the knowledge we have gathered. How long before gay marriage is advocated and written into the testaments?

My mother is not religious, she does not believe in God, but she BELEIVES that there is an afterlife that can be reached by mediums... she honestly believes that these people can talk to her mother and family. She's not mad or stupid. Her mind craves the need to know that the family members she loved are not gone, and that she will see them again.

This is another name for religion. Another kind of faith. All religions came out of the same NEED to find an answer, a theory to why we are here and what is the purpose?

All of it ridiculously unproven.

My comment about you being 'lucky enough to be in a country' was chosen carefully because it is based on fact and not on your colour, religion or beliefs.

We ARE lucky enough to be in a country that allows free speech. What's that got to do with race? Did I mention race, colour or religion? Don't bring up a subject and attach it where it's not needed or wanted.

And why do you think I'm white? I've said nothing that has mentioned my colour. Just my beliefs. It is YOU that brought up race.. not me... so again.. you fall foul of you own prejudices you purport to detest.. you confuse me..

You try to walk such a careful path, but you always seem to trip up by IMPLYING certain things that are untrue.. again.. you FORCE your views on to us.. not once have you used reasoned debate to answer the questons posed... you simply state things, from your religious perspective..

I have not once abused you. You on the other hand have sworn, called me (and other people) names and threatened violence on one individual who questioned your use of the word 'Paki' in relation to yourself!

So, who is the one troubled by his nature and suroundings?

I am also happy and free enough to understand that humanity crawled from a DNA soup 3 Million years ago. Apes, our (and this does includes you) closest cousins split from this hereditry path by a random chance of nature...

So, is the picture below your Uncle Peter or mine? Looks more like my brother after a good night out.. but that's another story..

Alan,

I certainly would not call religious believers weak. It takes quite some strength of character to follow a religion, or to try to follow its precepts at least. No one is perfect thank goodness! That is why religions teach that forgiveness is a good thing.

Everyone is entitled to follow their own consciences and beliefs in that respect, as is your own mother of course.

The majority of religious people are indoctrinated by their own parents in the first place. So, not really strength of character then, but more the effect of environmental influences in most cases. Challenging those influences rather than yielding to them would indeed a sign of a strong character ?... all IMHO of course.

well ok leave it at that only u know what way u meant it

and alan i never ever forced my view on anyone, i swear, i hope the vets here remember, i never ever started on the palestinian issue here in my life, their was a thread going back a yr ago and that was the first time i ever spoke about it, everyone was on about palestinians this and palestinians that and that was the first time i ever got involved. honest no bull

and the first time i ever came here was, alot of whites started attacking katana and turboman and it was about the asylum issue and it became a racist thread and thats when i got involved, ask uncle buck , it was the first time i ever posted in cew

mate i dont force views on anyone i give my views

and regarding the paki word, i dont mind my mates calling me that doesnt matter what colour they are, but i do hate others calling me that coz its a term used for racism, just ask dougster the mod we like calling each other names haha.

Without wishing this to become another theological debate, can u please give your views on why a God would bother to have the world he/she created devoid of life for a billion years, then wait another 3 billion years before making any form of life with some sort of complexity, and then after all that, wait until about 2 to 3 million years ago to make humans.

Not only that, but the ungrateful humans that were created did not even acknowledge the existence of said creator until about 5 thousand years ago!

And create trillions of other stars and worlds, but only put life here. Would have been alot easier just to create the Sun and the Earth and then have the rest of eternity off, in a hot tub in heaven instead of the constant maintenance that the cosmos must need.

Geezer

Oh, and allow such misery in the wolrd and suicide bombers, just to kee it vaguely about the original subject matter

Out of interest, isn't the title of this thread slightly offensive to 'god'?

If I spent my time on painting, which I thought was the best thing and them someone said that it was 'fecked up', I'd be mightly p1ssed off! (But true because I am crap at drawing - lol!)

The world was one of gods f**k ups. I'm sure he's moved on and built better ones elsewhere. I reckon he looks back on this world and cringes and if anyone asks he softly whistles and says 'wasn't me guv', must've been the cat

Geezer. Moses has invoked the standard religious 'get out clause'.

Only God knows the answers to your excellent questions..

So we'll just leave it there and I'll just believe and do what I'm told from whatever religious book I believe in and I'll answer those really awkward questions later.. when I'm dead.

That's really useful.

Those questions and religions inability / refusal to answer them, end all theological debate in an instant. What’s the point of debating semantics when religion can't answer the bigger searching questions?

LOL at "Monkey lights" Google advert

Moses, I do suspect you actually are a nice person, at the same time I do think you could to with some more "breathing" between posts You also scare me a bit.

Yes, of course, me too I am now posting behind an anonymous ID, but that's got nothing to do with CEW etc., nor with "stirring".

OK, one little tidbit of info: Darwin never ever said we descended from the apes.

He did kinda suggest that we had a common ancestor.

Missing link anyone ?

I hope you can find it in your heart, after you have given up on the racist crowd - are they worth the aggro ? No - to read a bit more about what he said, not about what people say he alledgedly possibly may have said.

Hint: social Darwinism would have made Darwin puke.

No offence meant.

Moses, you can't just accept that everything is Gods will! What if u blow that thumping great engine in that Evo of yours? Is that his will, or is it simply because you over stressed it?

I would imagine you would believe the latter, so you are capable of applying logic to everyday situations. If so, how come you choose to give vague answers about how things will be answered after you die just because the subject matter is a little too 'against God'?

Does the Quran mention singularities? Inflation? Dark Matter etc?

Didn't someone add up all the lifespans of people in the bible (or the Quran, essentially the same thing), and it came to something like 7 thousand years? If u take the bible/Quran as gospel, then that still elaves open my previous question.

Please give me your honest view, you must have one.

lol somedude thats sad , first time anyone has ever called me scary, im the nicest dude u will ever meet, yeah im a lil extreme at times but not the bad way , and darwin was a monkey but he looked like one

mate majority of his theories have became untrue, but people still defend him
remember the pittsburgh monkey

jaw of an orangutan and the skull of a man

dyed to make it look old

and geezer mate, God didnt blow my engine, he has given me the free will to be an idiot and do fecked up things to my car , and i risk it all the time and i blew it coz of my own stupidity, i knew it was gonna happen but i went and did it, were not talking about this, were talking about his creation mate

and regarding thousands of yrs, nothing like that in the quran mate and when God talks about making the world in 6 days in the bible in the quran its 6 periods as in the proper arabic word means periods not days

and look at the creation in the quran and bible its totally different and also bible was true one time but people lost their teachings and invented some

and the word bible aint inthe bible its a greek work meaning book

take it from their

and ozon layer in the quran it says God created a barrier to protect the earth

u have to remember, quran aint a book of science, its a book of signs

if u go to this site mate, i aint no scientist but this guy is , read his books to and also has a new site dedicated to darwinsm

http://www.harunyahya.com/

http://www.darwinism-watch.com/

have a read this is good

http://www.tempemasjid.com/maurice/frcont15.htm

this man found the body of the pharoah , bible said he drowned quran said God drowned his people
and his body is perserved only found less than a 100 yrs i think

God said he perserved pharoahs body as a lesson for the people ( arrogant, evil people who oppress etc)
