the decision has not been taken. Whether I could have fooled you or not is irrelevant.

As to how many votes. It is a subjective thing. If it were 200 votes to keep I would be pretty convinced I think. If it were 100 I would take more into account the reasons for keeping it as on balance, maybe there is more to it than meets the eye.

I had not fixed a number on it, but wanted to see the response. I have not seen anything that greatly sways me towards keeping it. With regards to "changing my mind", my mind is not made up, and has not changed, and will not change. If the forum is wanted by enough people and I can see that it is of great importance to the community, it will remain. If I can't I would rather not have the nasty and dark side to this forum.

Regards

Simon

Maybe a new additional forum could be created, called Moses' Link Page?

I voted to keep the forum, as it does attempt to deal with some grown up arguments in current affairs and society. I do see the Mod's side of it though, as there are a few people on here that use the forum frequently, who refuse to listen, and post rude, immature and often racist comments on both sides of the arguments being discussed maturely in the main.

Life is usually nasty and dark, sorry but if you look what is happening to the world today sticking our collective heads in the sand and burying contentious issues wont help.

I have noticed quite a few posts have been moved here from NSR in the past few days.

Bottom line here, it's Simon's forum, if he wants to kill off CWE, it's his choice. He could have very easilly have just closed it without a poll, but he is actually taking the time to ask us what we think.

If you don't like what he does, then tough, go and have a cry in the corner of the room, or just grow up and accept it.

Technically speaking,I fell that there should be no place for CWE, muppets, NSR, computing, DIY and other 'non performance car realted' forums on a BBS which is mainly here for subaru and other performance car related things. It is great that the other forums are here, you can ask a question and get interesting and informative replies, but as has been seen, there are a few people who are just here to bait others, on many topics, and that is just silly, and more than a little annyoing, epecially when it seems nothing is really done about it.

putting it bluntly, I think it's known who the "people who spoil it for the majority" are, so someone should have a word with these people, if it's not already been done and point out thier behaviour is not acceptable and to chill or just go.

Markus... I had set up this account specifically for trolling, but I'm very bad at it, so have mainly tried to contribute in a nice way

But could you please consider taking a bit more of a back seat in discussions that basically don't concern you ?

I know this comment is somewhat anti-community, and will not go on a huff if it gets deleted

Personally, I didn't vote, as I don't know which way to vote. Some discussions are eye-opening, some are revolting, and it seems pretty easy to disturb a good conversation with one well pointed troll post (as almost happened to this thread, but then it was moderated quickly and perfectly may I add)

Mr. Webmaster, I don't think people said "clog". I think people said the same problems would just continue whether you delete this forum or not. Although I'm a newbie I do seem to vaguely remember that Diablo had to moderate the hell out of the same kind of troublesome posts.

Simon

if you're expecting 100 votes in favour, then I would just close CWE now, cos it ain't gonna happen.

Regular posters on CWE probably amount to no more than 30 people...if that.

So, I don't really know what you're trying to achieve with a vote like this....but if its 'mass appeal' you're after, then you won't achieve it here.

ok, I'll bite, for a change. Explain the "discussions that basically don't concern you" thing? and I'm not being sarcastic here, I want to know why.

Why should this discussion not concern me? am I not part of this community? am I not allowed to vote or comment on whether this forum stays or goes?

just curious really. If you want to PM or email me, that's cool, I'm not looking for a fight over this, plus the cat is curious as to what your anti-troll ID is

I can't help thinking all this moderating tripe is a sad reflection on our country today.
One persons lively debate is another persons cue to cry like a child and run to someone because they are "being picked on". Unfortunately those with a healthy perception on reality or self- confidence, get little chance to express it because the "wimps" have to be seen to be protected in todays society.

Leave it here, get rid of it, either way it won't improve the situation.

Am I really in a minority when I say I couldn't BEGIN TO entertain the thought of pressing RTM, no matter what people said about me on a blóódy BBS.

First they came for the Diaperene Corn Starch Baby Powder, but I was not a baby -- so I said nothing. Then they came for the Jergen's Gentle Touch Bath Soap, but I still had some left -- so I did nothing. Then they came for Naturistics' Clearwater Musk, but I was wearing a different scent that summer. And then they came for the Coty's Wild Musk Powder, but I was not surprised so -- I did little. Then when they came for the regular scented Johnsons' No More Tangles Spray, I had grown my hair long again and there was none left to untangle it with ...

Well all those who vote to shut CWE's, you get the message, hehe

Although I'm guilty as well, let's not turn this into a Markus thread.

I can see why Mr. Webmaster could do without CWE.

I can also see it won't stop the nasty posts.

Maybe you could do both: dump *and* be a bit more severe for people who only want to cause bad feelings (like me )

awww, I want another "look at me" thread

maybe we should have a "wall" forum, where we can line up troublemakers and shoot them?

I'm going to shut up now, for a change.

Webmaster,

Why not just ban discussions on religon and politics altogether? This is not meant to be a joke.

I cant think where else this policy is followed but does show that people have to be nice to each other.

I am happy for CWE to remain, as I read through it a lot despite being very saddened by some posts that I have read.

Will respect whatever decision though.

I suggest we expand it. Given that most the discussions are 'political' or 'religious' etc. Could we not expand it to be Current Events or suchlike so that it includes stuff like politics, topical news stories (UK and Rest of World) etc.

Asif, FWIW, your suggestion is not daft at all.

In my culture, it is somewhat an "unspoken rule" that we don't discuss politics or religion when we go to bars/cafés etc.

The moment someone breakes that rule, you have a bar fight.

Given that it's clear that religious/muslim people are a minority on this BBS, and that society in general is becoming pretty "worked up", it is only logical that these discussions tend to get heated.

But I'm sure a few people who do have an open mind learn from these discussions, so it would IMHO be a shame to see that go.

But then again, do we think a Jap car related BBS is the best medium to discuss these things ?

I have noticed quite a few posts have been moved here from NSR in the past few days.
Me too. The normal pattern is that a perfectly reasonable discussion builds up to say 5 pages in NSR before being moved to CWE only to be ambushed by the 'known troublemakers' who immediately attempt to be so abusive as to get the thread closed and thereby stifle the free speech that was taking place. No doubt in their minds they believe they have 'won' some kind of 'victory'. It's all very unfortunate, perhaps if there was no CWE for them to lurk in they might go away for good.

I voted to keep it, find it fascinating on occasion, understand the Moderation problems, however most would be surplus if people actually read both the topic opener and the content of 'sensible threads' rather than just airing their views without any attempt to pick up on varying theories and arguements

How can people who don't post here have an opinion of any note ? Seems some people need to be the cyber equivalent of the gossiping old ladies that kiss up to the vicar and organise church lunches so they can talk rubbish about things they don't know anything about. I think the forum should stay when people are posting, its the most interesting here even when you get wind up merchants thinly hidden racist abuse and sheer stupidity in abundance. If you find it too hard to moderate just get some more moderators I nominate Markus for the first new mod.

Jye

We're also first and foremost members of the community who contribute in ways other than moderation, so why should we be excluded from voting ourselves?

Besides, its only me that said that I voted against it, others may have voted to keep it
