Check that the two chips are in the correct way round... i.e look where pin 1 is. All the chips (including the two chips containing the maps) should have pin 1 in the same place. However if these where in wrong i would expect the cel not to come on but also for nothing else to happen...i.e just not start.
I've had this problem before and it was due to a duff set of chips. They had been working fine but after remapping them so many times they just seemed to give up the ghost. If you turn the ignition on (don't start it) and the CEL is not on then you know straight away the car won't start. When i had the clicking it would sometimes start but then click and almost die then click again and idle fine... click again and almost die etc. I believe the click you're hearing is the relay for the fuel pump, when you turn the ignition on the pump primes but due to the duff chips it just clicks away.
A new set of chips should sort it..... IMHO.

who do i speak to about a set of chips that are mapped for a uk car
apparantly david wallis supplied the chip first time around
maybe he can get the chips for me
around what cost would they be?

The chips themselves aren't expensive at all.... however it will still take somebody the time and effort to do them. Speak to either Paul or David and they can advise... may be worth sending the actual adaptor back to them to to check all the soldering etc is still ok. Also check that the soldered socket on the actual ecu doesn't have any dry joints etc.

The board could have been damaged, or perhaps it never worked at all and the person that bought it didn't get it sorted out. It has happed before, wrong information written to the eproms or eproms wrong way round or in wrong sockets.

when Pavlo remapped my car he fitted a new set of programmable chips. however, i believe he did leave my generic chips with me. these were supplied with my board by Scott Taylor and are set to 16.42psi with an 8K rpm rev limit. my ECU is a Z4 (MY95 car) - not sure what differences there are with yours, but i will gladly look for those chips tonight if you wish to try them (think they are in my toolbox).

i have the chips here on my desk. i have mailed Scott Taylor (my original Scoobyecu supplier) and copied Pavlo (who remapped my ECU) to query the potential for the chips to run your car and without adverse effects.
of course you are more than welcom to try them anyway, but i think its well worth getting these guys opinions advice to be safe. you may be right about WRX vs UK chips/ECUs, but at least we should soon have a better idea.
i will call you once i get a response from Scott/Paul.

I had a case where Farnell delivered the wrong chips. The delivery note was correct but the chips were 1 number out, 574's instead of 573's (I think).
I didn't no any different until the owner plugged it in.
When he sent it back I could see that these chips were wrong (the writting on them is too damn small). Fitting the right ones cured it.

so just need to find out what map is on my others and if they can be reprogrammed
anyway took the car for a spin to what these scoobyecu's are about
boost in first and second seems much the same as before
but a big difference in fourth and fifth
although not the full 16.4psi
could it be that my battery wasnt disconnected long enough to reset the ecu
it was only off for about 15 minutes

glad they work ok. a point to note is that the rev limit is set to 8K rpm, although i wouldn't go there until you've cheked for det and other gremlins etc. i found that the chips tended to smooth out the power delivery rather than give it more of a shove in the back.
you could tell there was extra speed and higher gear performance was more noticeably improved than lower down. there are many contributing factors to the boost levels. i always reset my ecu with the black and green connectors under the dash. 15 mins may not have been long enough, but i can't say that for definite.
i found that cleaning the boost solenoid and assosciated pipework, also the air sensor (MAF???) with brake/carb cleaner and then a proper ECU reset seemed to make noticeable difference to the on road performance. its not much effort, so worth a try. be careful/delicate when cleaning your air sensor.

the only way to get the chips to you before saturday is to post them to you
but i dont have your address unless you can rig my wife on my home number in the morning and give her the details she will post them to you

no probs, i'll give her a call in the morning with my address details. i was gonna suggest posting them actually. we have re-arranged the mapping to Sunday (damn, will miss our lot vs ManU
). i might call on Sunday on the way back from N'hampton and see if you're free to drop the chips back off!cheers,
