For the benefit of the ignorant amongst us: what exactly is the difference between the WR1 and an STI+PPP? I know about DCCD plus the um... controversial paint job, but what else?
Maybe I'm just being a bit cynical - there have been enough previous special editions that really weren't that special at all (Catalunya, Terzo, RB5, UK300). What's unique about the WR1 that makes it worth £30k?

anyone know if there are any engine differences are there? Or is it just a better map that gives the 320 PS?

Just a better map, the only only thing the WR1 has that can't be bought for a standard STi is the paintwork and the DCCD, all the rest is off the shelf at your local dealer.

A question for Mike Wood..
For those of us who have recently PPP'ed our MY03/04 Sti's, shod our cars with the 18" wheels and fitted the Prodrive springs in the belief that we were creating the ultimate UK Spec Impreza for the current model, what news is there re the availability of the revised remap for our cars?
I don't personally want to chuck another £10K to get the WR1 platform performance figures, but I could be persuaded to part with some....

That's probably more a question for International Motors than Mike. IM sell the cars (and the PPP), and even if what you're asking is technically feasible, it'll ultimately be their decision as to what's offered to customers and what isn't.
At end of day, if they want the WR1 to retain its exclusivity (and residuals) as the de facto "Ultimate UK Impreza", they won't allow its map to be retrofitted to other cars. If I'd just ordered a WR1, I'd be more than a bit ticked off if I found that "normal" STi PPP owners could get the same power for a few hundred quid.
At end of day, when you got all the bits for your STi, you were creating the ultimate UK Impreza available at the time. If you weren't expecting something newer and better to toddle along at some point, you've obviously not been on this planet long enough.

Whom has the greater justification to feel agrieved, a WR1 owner who could go the STi Type UK Route with PPP and the Toys but still not have DCCD, quickrack and branding gubbins, for lets say £28-29K (so 1-2K difference) or the PPP STi owner who if he wants the upgrade has to take the depreciation hit before even buying the WR1 (total impact £10K)

Progress in any industry is a fact of life. There's always something newer and better around the corner, and anyone who doesn't acknowledge that reality should be sterilised so their naivety doesn't pollute future generations.
What you're suggesting is no more or less unreasonable than bugeye owners expecting a free/reduced cost upgrade to the blobeye front end, or indeed P1 owners expecting a free/reduced cost upgrade to a WR1.
If you bought a toaster this week, and a new, improved toaster comes out next week, you wouldn't take it back to the shop and expect an upgrade to the new one, would you? When you buy any product, be it a toaster, a car, or bits for a car, you buy that particular specification at that particular time.
Unless the contract of sale specifically entitles you to future upgrades, you've bought what you bought, and if something better comes along next week, well, them's the breaks. If the manufacturer happens to offer you a reduced cost upgrade path after the fact, that should be considered a fortunate bonus rather than an expectation.
Anyone who's bought an 03/04 PPP has still got what they paid for, the existence of something newer and better affects the performance of their own cars not one jot. It's not as though their cars suddenly started going slower the day the WR1 was announced.

Again GM hits the nail on the head, As he says there is always something new round the corner, If you have the latest and greatest enjoy because tomorrow it may not be so.

I am not saying anyone is entitled to anything, to be given the option to upgrade would however be lovely though, and that goes for all the other guff you mentioned.
Why dont you let the person to whom the comment was addressed answer the question?
I take it that you are a champion balloonist, with the advantage that you don't need to use gas unlike other competitors, you produce enough hot air all on your own. I'll be forwarding your details to Richard Branson!

It's nice to see, BTW, that the only way you seem to be able to counter a reasoned argument is with mild insults. Really strengthens your case!

Now go and do something more productive rather than frittering your life away on here sniping at peoples contributions to the forum.

The beauty of multi-tasking is that I can be on here and be doing something productive, at the same time! Neat eh? As for sniping, if memory serves you were the only one doing that.

Scratching your ***** whilst providing little constructive contribution to the BBS is hardly multi-tasking. Still I am glad that you are happy and recognise your limitations.
Go on have the last word, you obviously feel that you need to!

IMO it is unlikely that the 320 PS will be available through Subaru for the Sti. As has been said above, this would devalue the WR1, and they are unlikely to do that.
At least not until they've all been sold anyway - or am I just being a little too cynical here ? ? ?

What would be very interesting would be for the same performance remap to be available for the std sti and THEN we would all see if Prodrives figures were really obtainable.

ps. Mike Wood & Simon LInes I have a nice little stiv7 for you to play around with if you want to remap something.....never raced or rallied..... one careful Lardy owner

If it's a Type UK, it can't be an STi7, as they were only available in Japan. Bugeye (MY02) STi Type UK's were, if you're going to use a number, STi8's.
If it came in through IM and you haven't got any aftermarket mods on it, only thing it could have is the PPP, maybe it's just a goodun?
Edited to say, either use the WYSIWYG interface, or use the shortcuts ( = semicolon and close brackets) (Colon and close brackets! )
