Cannabis Vs Alcohol?

I was told you can (or at least you could) get cannabis prescribed to you in parts of usa for anxiety etc. Also our government allowed trials of cannabis for ms sufferers. Alcohol makes the symptoms worse apparently.

Chip, so what? You can get anything you want these days np. Some kids start off on smack etc bypassing cannabis anyhow, cos its cheaper. Dont blame weed for someone wanting whats available on demand anyhow. Your argument is self defeating therefore, if cannabis was freely available then those sort of scum wouldnt be tempting youngsters into harder drugs anymore. Would they?
And cannabis, what I was talking about, well it wont kill you and never has done. Dont twist the facts. Thats facts btw and not hearsay and sensationalism.

The only analogy i can offer is:
If alchohol and cannabis where both invented today and the Police / Magistrates / Government Bodies were offered to try both and make one legal and one illegal, which one do you think they would pick to be legalised...........................
I rest my case
Nobody has touched on the medical benefits of cannabis, if nothing else it should be prescribed to all sorts of sufferers of conditions such as MS, Hodgkins and even stress management. FFS you cant get any worse than Prozac and Temazipam for fcukin your life up over time. I've seen the results of both and i know what i'd prefer
Jye and C, All that you say is true the problem is you are preaching to a generation of sheep when it comes to this issue. Peeps have had it drummed into them by the government that all drugs that arn't taxable are bad for you....end of

Jye I would rather trust my own experiences than reported 'medical fact'. What difference does it make how it is addictive. Every persons different, Ive smoked loads of **** and drank loads of booze but am not addicted to either - wtf does that prove?

I was just commenting on what was posted on the original thread which asked for peoples opinion on the two substances namely cannabis and alcohol. If you dont agree with my view then fine.
Be careful you dont choke on your pint won't you

The problem is, our generations were brought up with anti drug messages, and we had the old sayings drummed in to us - "dont do it", "peer pressure", "cannabis will lead to harder drugs" etc etc etc.
It seems like these messages are still deep in many people memories as these are the same boring old arguments that are drummed up whenever this debate arises.
As Jye said, cannabis is a natural herb - think about that for a minute - it is a HERB that is grown in the ground, just like basil, etc It just has more active ingredients.
I dont have it a lot these days (if ever tbh), but in my yoof I did - it was a choice I made which hasnt done me any harm.

I suppose it's a bit like the message we give our kids regarding alcohol, i.e. dont you dare touch the stuff until your 18. The French and other european countries bring kids up to drink alcohol from a much earlier age, a small glass of wine round the table with meals etc. We wait until they come in sozzled from the pub, vomitting all over their duvets before we tackle the issue. Once my old dear discovered that I smoked she told me she'd rather I did than get plastered every weekend.

Yes FP ALL drugs are bad for you if abused. The problem is caused when the Ostrich school of thought kicks in. "All drugs are bad for you, so i'm gonna stick my head in the sand until the issue goes away". I'm sorry but thats just sh1te.
Would you question your GP's integrity if he prescribed something for you if he thought you needed it.....................no you wouldn't and dont give say that you would coz i wouldn't believe you. So a GP prescribes such drugs as Temazipam, Prozac even mild drugs in comparison such as Cipramil which again, given in short measures is of benefit to the user. Now if that person is on one of these drugs for any extended period then there are going to be side effects, one of which will be addiction (note i said addiction). Now, many will say Cannabis is addictive WRONG, users have been found to be dependant using it, just like any over indulgence such as chocolate, coffee etc etc. I just dont see why people put up such barriers to block out the facts.
I have a small request for the peeps that disagree with me, jye, c and Dream Weaver. Could you please find sufficient facts to prove that alchohol is less damaging than Cannabis. Please dont relate to smoking it as i whole heartedly agree that the smoking of tobacco will cause cancer and a whole host of other nasty diseases so we'll keep this down to the Marijuana plant cultivated in pure form and put in a yoghurt or cake........whatever but just not smoking okay
Please post your findings below, it would be nice to see such things as:
Car accident stats
violent crime (ie fights etc)
theft
death by misadventure
Hospitalisation costs through the usege of......
Cost to NHS as a result of.................
Medical pluses and minuses
Rape related
Domestic violence
The list isnt exhaustive please add to this if you want to but please post your findings
Now obviously there will be two trains of thought here. The quick excessive (binging)abuse of the items and the long term effects of consistant usage.
Cheers

I agree gear can drop you into the wrong crowd - usually your dealer. but its up to you whether you wanna go down that route isn't it?
The only addictive thing about dope though is the tobacco most folks mix it with. Thats why they *need* it every night. They could get by just as easily with a *** really.

Oh FFS. I gave the answer in post no. 16, it's by World Health Organisation scientists, who've spent more time researching the issue than ANYONE here (and that's pretty obvious from the quality of the answers). If you can't be arsed to read about 15 pages of information to inform your arguments, then you're not worth responding to.

Agreed, its wise to educate children, but when I was younger it was drummed into me that cannbis was bad and alcohol was fine - now i'm older, and have learnt for myself I disagree.
As I said im not a big pothead, but have my own theories.

DW, the link works for me. You get some paras of introductory text, then the table of contents for the report, which are hyperlinked.
Sure it's not your work's internet censor?

Jye,
As I said in my post, I quoted what has been said by the medical experts about smoking cannabis being a cancer risk as well as causing brain damage in the long term. Don't how that justifies you calling me "silly".
Fatherpierre, my mistake for not reading all the first post a second time!

Alcohol aint really natural, had to be discovered, brewed, fermented you name it.
I think people should be able to eat, drink, smoke, inject what the hell they like, and in exchange for that freedom they must accept responsibility for their own actions.
