Cool

Doesn't the Standard vRS have a higher top speed than a Standard UK bugeye anyway?

I can remember Jon's vRS being GPS tracked at over 160mph with 240bhp.

Mmm Skodas, not the butt of jokes they used to be !!!

Another convert I'm afraid, had a STI Import for a couple of years, one new engine, another engine out to replace blown head gaskets, loads of electrical problems, inside rattled like all the fixings were missing & sub 20 mpg.

Ive now got an Octy 4x4, 20,000 miles no problems, simple remap takes it to 228 bhp with tons of torque, new exhaust, filters dump valve etc should see well over 250. with a bigger turbo etc it will give 350+ & thats without any mods to the internals although a beefed up Gearbox & clutch are needed (s/hand Audi 6 speed boxes, the strong ones from a 225 TT or similar are about £300). As you approach 400 bhp you need to start looking at internals. If you dont believe me remember its the same engine as the Golf or Audi & some people are running 400 horses on std internals, dare I say try that with a Scoob.
Ok Suspension & brakes all need doing but when you look at the initial outlay for the vehicle it will still be a lot cheaper than a Scoob. I paid £10495 for an ex demo 4x4, 6 months old with 600 miles on it.

We did the Cannonball in it this year & apart from 2 bent alloys caused by over enthusiastic driving the car ran perfectly & didnt even develop a single rattle. I have thrashed the doobries off the car & its still running sweet as a nut & I now have money in the bank. Its also less of a police/boy racer magnet.

Ok its dosent have the presence of a scoob but not being noticed in this Police state aint such a bad thing & pissing off 3 series BM's & especially TT 225's in a Skoda is just so much fun.

check out the the Hall of fame in PERFORMANCE VW it will put alot of scoobs to shame.....

Plus the twin engine MK3 golf (vr6) hits 60 in 2.8 secs....

Not to be sniffed at!

QUOTE: “competition has caught up!” VW’s have been tuning for years... and the late 80’s Golf Rallye could stick with a scoob on the twisty bits anyday...

Yes I have converted to the world of scoobs, but I having owned a modded VR6 Corrado and modded Golf Turbo for years wouldn’t bet against them.

I was being followed along the A380 the other day by one of those Skodas and I was amazed how he was able to keep my MY94 STi in sight. Pretty impressive!

Even more impressive is it can do it with one servcie every 10k at approx €150 and still return an average 30mpg

I have had two Subaru engines running quite happily at over 400 BHP on standard internals Both have held together so far. The only problem I had was head studs which were too slack, but you can't blame Subaru for that - now using original head bolts.

1.8T is a good lump though Skoda is an excellent stealth-mobile

After having Discos Skoda 1.8T for 4 months I would have one.

My choice would be:
1.8T 4x4 Octavia
Bigger Turbo
Bigger Injectors
FMIC
Remap and a few other goodies to bring it comfortably over 300bhp.

Now thats fun!

P.S How come £300 for a Audi 6 Speed Gearbox and £1500 for a Subaru 6 Speed gearbox! Cheaky *******.

Just take it to jabbasport, £3500 gets you 380+ BHP
considering you can pick up a tavia 4x4 for the price of a Lamb Bhuna and a pint of Kingfischer... I call that bargain performance.....

Still a skoda!

I had a run in with a vRS this morning in my STi8ppp, couldn't shake him off, stuck with me all the way to the speed limit due to the fact I recognised one of Gwents unmarked patrol cars

Default Skoda RS

OK let's get one thing straight, at 125mph, a Scoda RS is not going to go past you like you were standing still. They are alot slower 0-60, 0-100, and through the gears. The top speed is also less. They are a good car, albeit bland wrt looks, from that particular supplier, but they are always going to be the car behind the Scooby, trying to catch up.

Ok lets get another thing straight. With similar weight, less transmission losses and similar power (220-235bhp is very very typical for a remap - which this car 'may' have had) the 0-100, top speed and through the gears is not going to be less. My Impreza was quicker off the line from 0-40 but over that there is genuinely nothing in it in my 4x4 Octavia

Default Octavia RS

How straight do you want it. Read the figures, any std. Impreza will NOT be bettered by a std. Octavia, full stop. Where do you get these comparisons from, it's front wheel drive, not good in about 70% of our road conditions. I's a good attempt, but remains second division, in there with the CTR/Leon/Cups.

Problem is I think too many Scoob owners think they automatically have practically the quickest car out there sub 40k but whoever said it earlier is right - with a little bit of tuning there are many so called lesser cars out there that will give us a run for our money. I have a MY00 but can live with this as I bought mine not just for it's performance (which is great!) but for everything that comes with owning a Scoob that you can't get with say the Skoda. The rally pedigree, the flat four throb, the admiring looks from fellow car enthusiasts, it's presence, the list goes on... Yes there are many cars out there now equally as quick but they're not the 'package' that the Scoob is! Just my thoughts on the subject! Skoda's are def no joke anymore they're just a rebadged VW/Audi - good solid cars.

I'm not disagreeing with you !!! This thread is about someone being passed by an Octavia.

I am saying that this was:
a) probably remapped
b) If it had <say> 225bhp they are similar on acceleration and top speed

From personal ownership experience of both Imprezas and Skoda Turbos, I'm trying help the threadstarter aware that there's nothing wrong with his driving - the Octavia really is not far off now. ps Mine is a 4x4 turbo

From standing,no question, the Scoob will always win,but through the gears 2nd gear in the Skoda is very good, but third in a Scoob will leave it,imvho (having owned a Scoob and now having an RS which might be remapped)

...my Tek2'd wagon would have left it in 3rd, but not as standard. Interestingly (I think!) the 4x4 Skud has much shorter gear ratios in all gears than the vRS - eg the vrs is geared to give a true 100mph in 3rd and the 4x4 only makes 87. Accelerates quicker but not as good at the top end.

Yes I said in my post the the guy was able keep me in sight but he did not have the acceleration of my car and I was not doing silly speeds. he would not have been able to pass me.

The standard Tavia is slower than a standard WRX

A modded tavia is nearly equal to a WRX

But if you modded a WRX then the Tavia has no chance...

Lets face it, you can mod any car to make it go faster, but at the end of the day can you hold your head up high in front of your mates in a pub and say: I OWN A SKODA!!! even if it is a vRS... its still a Skoda...

I make my point....

Secondly the 4x4 systems which the Tavia uses (not RS) isnt the Halix system the golf 4Motion uses. Its the passat version which isnt as good, with only 150BHP standard running through it. It becomes expensive to get any real performance from it because it uses the K03 turbo from the golf and not the K04 which is used in the Audi TT and Leon TypeR.

errr yes, if I owned one, that sort of suggests you hold your head high and say : I OWN A SUBARU. After all it's nothing but a cheap japanese saloon car with a turbo isn't it? Just like the Octavia is a cheap czech saloon car really. The irony of Subaru badge snobs (I own an Impreza BTW).

Do you have problems reading? I own an Impreza amongst other cars, don't own and have never owned a Skoda. Might do one day though, it's a great value, quickish car, just like the Impreza.

Isn't the Impreza a cheap japanese saloon that has a turbo? Or am I thinking of a different car to the one sat in my garage?

Ho ho, subaru badge snobs, so ironic

Both decent cars but just go ask any joe bloggs on the street what they think of the badge and neither fairs particularly well.

No problems reading.... I’m not a badge snob either... if you bothered to read the whole thread you’ll see that Ive owned cars from the VAG group and stated how good they are.... Im just stating the common obvious that most people still look as Skoda as being Skoda, and that fact you put a great engine in a cheap brand, it wont enhance its appeal that much because of its stigma. You hit the nail on the head by says that you would own one because it’s Cheap....

Exactly! they are cheap..... a cheap car to buy and mod if you like. But so is a SEAT that shares the same engine. Would you choose a Skoda sets of keys or SEAT?? If you asked 100 people you know more than 50% would say SEAT.

As for your quote: Subaru is a cheap brand then you are entitled to your opinion as much as I am entitled to mine, but I imagaine alot of people on the forum would not agree with you and me being one of them. Yes it is a cheap saloon car (with or without a turbo) compared to say an Audi S4 or a Porsche but now who is being a badge snob??

Not me, the fact a car is cheap doesn't make any difference in terms of badge snobbery, not to me anyway. I'm not the one doing the looking down on some other marque I perceive to be inferior in some way.

Your argument about the Subaru being cheap compared to an S4 or Porsche is exactly the one you should be applying to yourself, you stuck up, idiotic badge snob

Thanks for proving my point.
