Question

Remember we are comparing 0-60 times of a 4WD car v's a FWD car. The FWD car is never going to be as quick.
Does anyone have the 0-60 time for a Jabba'd 4x4 'Tavia?

Unscientific I know, figures are for a 4x4 estate, 220 bhp (an early Jabba remap), B road, two up, 3qtr tank of fuel, and a load of stuff in the boot (including a Dell rackmount kit). Figures are from a dashmount performance metre:

______________
Start Speed 0.0mph

mph secs G ft
10.0 1.83 0.57 7
20.0 2.68 0.57 26
30.0 3.35 0.67 51
40.0 4.37 0.55 104
50.0 5.38 0.46 170
60.0 6.41 0.42 254

Peak G: 27.7mph \ 3.19s \ 44ft \ 0.69g

So, not too bad really. Figures for the test RS would indicate about 212BHP, as they are similar to what I was getting with mine at that power level. Once I got past 300 it was quite a bit quicker

Thumbs up

Thanks Tavia
I think that is the next car for me, IF I can find one at the end of the year.
I hear LV are giving insurance based on a standard car now, I.E. ignoring the mods?

I remember reading on the Skoda forum about a dealer in the U.K. who took
the vRS demostator he was running and put it on a rolling road.
Rather than the claimed 180bhp it was nearer 196bhp.
Maybe the 180bhp figure was a gentlemens agreement with the rest of the V.A.G.(a bit like Subaru,Nissan etc).

Indeed. The RS is supposed to have 180. I haven't sen one yet with less than 192. 4x4 is meant to be 150, but seems to have 165. The PD units are meant to be 130 but somehow have 145. Strange that.

LV are not charging extra for mods on the Octavias, at the moment, the only thing they do charge extra for is if you increase the engine size

Ringpeas, the Skoda UK site has a search facility for second hand cars. You should be able to pick up a second hand ex-demo 4x4 for about 11-12. RSs hold their value much better, hard to find a 3 year old one at less than 10, which ain't bad considering they were only 14 new.

My wife used to own an Octavia. Very cheap to insure unlike her old sri, and the insurance company didn't seem to to bother that it was turbo'd and mildly modded.

Not officially

Some dealers will arrange to have it remapped for you and will look after you if it all goes pearshapped. Other dealers will turn a very blind eye to any mods you do and a lot seem to have remapped cars as demo ones (switchable boost).

On the whole the dealers are very good, haven't come across a bad one yet. When I got mine they were predominantly family run businesses. When I thanked them for good service they did say "well, we've been selling them for 20 years, we had to do something right". The VAG monster seems to be taking over a bit now, but there are still a lot of veryy good, understanding dealers out there.

I admit I am a badge snob. I would rather drive a subaru than a Skoda, a porsche 911 turbo than an impreza. Why not have the best, and that usually means paying more.

And I think some people are quoting "max power" (dreamers mag) performance figures just to win their arguments. I don't believe even a 2 engined golf would do 0-60 in 2.8 secs, although i could be wrong.

You keep your skodas even if it halfs my 0-60 or doubles my top end, i'll keep the scooby. Which is why you won't find me on a skoda forum and why we find you skoda drivers on an impreza forum.

I think most of the Skoda owners are on here as we used to own Imprezas, not because we are jealous.

A Revo remap actually puts "Revo" into the programme, hardly stealth tuning

I am having my standard vRS on a rr at AMD next week, will post the results

There are a lot of ex-scooby owners on this site, myself included.

Although I have moved on from Scooby ownership I still enjoy the site and know the people. Still go to Scooby meets as well. I would say a very high percentage of members are not Scooby owners.

Don't own a vRS but I do have a little Felicia Diesel as a second car run about. Had it 6 years from new, nothing gone wrong, dealer excellent and averages 50mpg. Only reason I haven't swapped it for a newer Fabia is my wife loves it and won't part with it. . Wife's cousin has a MY00 deisel Polo as she works for A VW dealer, the cars are so similar it's stupid, the engine bay is identicle. She's also told me if they haven't got parts in stock for VW cars they will fetch the parts from the local Skoda dealer but still charge full VW prices.

Badge snobs can have their VW's and Audi's. I'll keep the money thanks.

Cheers
Lee

hahahha i have a 911 but when i want to go quick I take my vRS... still each to their own... im sure a great many Skoda owners just could not live with the interior quality or reliability of a scoob but its each to their own.

there is always the trackday if you really feel the need to show us that your Scoob is so much better.... but i do suggest you bring a nice cushion to sit on on the way home as your **** might just be sore after it gets a good kicking... by Tavia's diesel!

Default Good grief

I own an STI 4 Type R and an Octavia VRS. The STI is quite highly modified and is very quick with great handling. The octavia is bog standard is very quick with great handling and comfortable. The STI is alot more fun but for a day to day car the Octavia is the one. Cheap to run, fast and seems to go unnoticed by the rozzers. I dont worry when I leave it in car parks either, which seems to be a problem with the STI. Does anyone else suffer from this?
