The Government knows a lot more about this economy than you ever will
Mr Brown was born in 1951 and educated at Kirkcaldy High School and Edinburgh University where he gained 1st Class Honours and then a Doctorate. He was Rector of Edinburgh University and Chairman of the University Court between 1972 and 1975. From 1976 to 1980, Mr Brown lectured at Edinburgh University and then Caledonian University before taking up a post at Scottish TV (1980 - 1983).

Still, easy to say that Brown must have a degree in bull****. I'd have thought, however, that as someone who knows exactly how hard it is to get a First you'd not do the stereotypical Sun-reader's putdown.

Having a First and even a Doctorate in History is does not mean the guy is an expert in Economics. Likewsie having a first in Computer Science doesn't put me in a position to perform neuro surgery.
I am sure the guy is intelligent, doesn't mean he has any common sense though. The point I was making, obviously rather too flipantly, was that the Labour government are all spin and bull****, they have started to wander away from the promises not to overspend and are now borrowing more and more money. At some point it is going to have to be paid back, they are gambling that the economy will pick up and pay for it all, but that's kinda like taking on a 100% mortage at 5 times your salary in the hope that you will win the lottery.

The Chancellor doesn't sit there and develop policy on his own, nor does he have need to be an economist. He's more like the Finance Director of GB plc, and when you look at the FDs of the FT-SE100 they're not often economists, though they have serried ranks of such people working for them.
It's not actually that it's difficult or esoteric economics, more that management of the data and the assumptions driving the models is so complex, and the pressure to make the right decision is immense.
If you look at Labour's original promises on spending, you'll find they've not been broken. I'd agree they've sailed rather close to the wind on this, but ultimately all governments play the odds, and I'd have to salute this government for at least trying to invest in the country.
Look at the previous administration, who seemed to think that by cutting everything, and cutting taxes, they'd somehow improve the economy. Anyone in business knows that if you want a short-term boost you just stop investing in fixed assets - boosts cashflow and profit, and everyone's happy. That is, they are until everything's worn out, and all needs replacing at the same time, at which time you've got a huge bill.
That's essentially the state Britain is in, or at least was until the current government came to power. It takes a very long time to sort things out, and whilst I'd fully support the argument that this government isn't always spending money in the right places (war in Iraq, anyone), at the end of the day they at least have a plan which has a better-than-average chance of working. Market information has now conceded that the Chancellor's growth targets are likely to be met, that the revenues look about right, that the tax take assumed in the models is roughly in line ..... in short, that we can afford the spending.
It's gambling, for sure, but it's not as if they're picking a winner by sticking a pin in a piece of paper - there's a bit more science and thought in it than that.

Because I pay my taxes, and some of that money goes to funding police and prision facilities to take care and house these criminals, does that make it right to support the notion that white english people should* cease to exist? -Simply because they CAN cause crime???
AGAIN, if u take time out to READ my posts you'll realise Im saying let the buggers in but dont pay for them to live here, if we are giving them an easy ride then they'll take advantage and come here. FFS its not rocket science, great if they are gonna work hard for it I'll appluad them but I completely disagree with letting them come here and not contribute to society.
lmao, did I ever say I have the knowledge to run the country better than the government? no I didnt did I. what is this all about then?
"The circulation of money is maintained, a generous benefit system is one way of doing it."
yeah the circulation is going on, we can afford to pay for these spongers because taxes get raise, and if we can afford it why are we borrowing that stupid amount of money announced at the budget? eh?

More whining from you...
No matter how many spoungers there are, there will always be plenty of individuals (British citizens and/or immigrants) who have the motivation to learn, work and progress in this country. There is not one single country on this earth that the majority of the population remains unproductive.
I'm done with this thread, I don't fancy debating any further with a grafftti'ed brick wall like yourself.

so good to see some1 with inferior knowledge as yourself cant hack a debate and have to revert to personal insults as calling me a "grafftti'ed brick wall"
Everything I have to say is light hearted and I dont give 2 hoots because no matter how much time we spend here debating it nothing will every change anyhow, yet you have to be so high and mighty trying to look down upon others who care to share an opinion.
run along then.

I thought it was old toyotas and nissans.
ANd please tell me why its ok for moses to say 'PAKIS'. If for instance I said that some PC do-gooder twit like Cosworth would call me a racist. Just shows the mentality on here.

I don't see why in itself "Paki" should be offensive, it is an abbreviation of "Pakistani" the same as "Brit" is of British. The problem is it has been used to generalise anybody with Asian roots.

there is no word what so ever IMO that is offensivve to any1, it only becomes offensive if a certain person decides thats how they will interpretate it.
some 1 calls u a cvnt. why is it offensive, I love a bit of the pink stuff its only offensive if I took offense to it

In fact, which of these phrases do we hear more of?
1) "F***king paki..."
2) "I like the pakis, good people..."
Another question for some of you cowards hiding behind your computers, when has organisations such as the BNP and the general meat-head racist you meet on the street DID NOT use the term "Paki" when they intend to insult you???
And WHEN has a Black, Asian or whatever person complained that they cannot use the term "Honky"?
Keep up the double standards!

Cowards? What are you implying PC man? Actually Cosworth alot of black/asian gangs actually call themselves N*ggers or Pakis.
e.g Yo N*gger bro, hows it hangin?
That isn't used offensively. Its just in their jibe.
And by the way does the general meat head racist apply to all races as I've been called 'white trash' a few times??? But i forgot in these times only the white man can be racist. LOL

I'd be interested to know of the Brits assulated etc in Australia what the break down of skin colour was. In other words is it a Aussie / Brit thing or a White / Non-White thing? So what do the Aussie call an non white Brit? A "Paki Pom"??
