At the end of the day, opinions are like ar$eholes - everybody's got one.....and they all stink!!

If you driven the TT, liked it, can afford it and want it - then get it!!

Who cares what a load of people on a Scooby bulletin board (who you've probably never even met) think!!

The TT gets the **** taken because they are slower and don't drive as well as the competition they may be better built or more reliable but they are slow an pretty. An ideal car for someone to impress the girls and boys and for those men of tiggs age who are probably losing their senses and reaction times and need a nice safe slow car to see them into their old age. Its like knowing its time for the rover or volvo but not wanting to admit it. btw tiggs the girls who smile don't think there goes a sexy distinguished gebtleman in a sports car. They think there goes another deluded old fart in a pretend sports car accelerating through his mid life crisis at a medium fast pace.

I too would never drive an Audi Tittie, but then I don't think it's designed for real petrolheads.

Each to their own though I spose. I remember reading a post on a Ford bbs, and it went along the lines of...

'picked up my beast today, and it's awesome !' - it was a Focus ST170 Everyone has a different take on what is awesome, but as long as they like it then good for them !

You want a Tittie ? Go for it.

Tiggs,
If space is really an issue, then definately go for the TT.
I've put in a lot of miles in a 180 Coupe, Silver with Blue interior, and it was simply a great place to be. Handling was fine for 99% day to day driving, as was speed. I'm not generally a fan of the roadster, i think it spoils the lines, but you can't have open top TT interior motoring without it!
The views on this site can be hilarious at times, so blinkered they can't even entertain the idea of liking another car.
Personally i'd go for the S2000, but as you said, not oo big inside. That engine though.....
Beef (about to buy an MX-5. Bring it on guys.....)

its quick, not super quick but still a fast car that fel very planted on the road. also has plenty of toys, BOSE stereo, heated seats, etc

and 15 secs to go topless!

i had a TVR last year and with hindsight i'd rather have this, not so cool but at least its german and wont break down!

Seriously, one thing you may not have considered is how other road users are going to react to you on the road which has surprised me greatly when I drive my wife's car.

I'm not a psychiatrist so I can't fathom what goes through people's minds when they see this sort of car on the road but you get absolutely no respect whatsoever - in fact, people go out of their way to make life difficult for you.

I can give you chapter and verse on various incidents in only two weeks and 700 miles of ownership but a couple that spring to mind are numpties in low powered cars (Primeras seem to favourite this week) who insist on trying to race you at every opportunity. This is particularly frustrating on a favourite piece of road when it would be much simpler for them just to let you past. The other example is some extreme brake testing that some muppet in a M3 performed on me the other day as he pulled out to overtake another vehicle without checking his mirrors, only to find that when he did so his mirrors were full of Z4. Naturally, this was completely my fault despite indicating and generally attempting the manouevre correctly and must have vindicated his jumping on the brakes to teach me a lesson, although he looked as if he was in touch with his Chav side given the sideways mounted baseball cap he was wearing.

Basically, if the dealer does let you have the vehicle for the day then make sure you can live with this aspect of ownership as given the general attitude towards TTs life may not be as fun as you hope. The TT doesn't tick my boxes as I particularly didn't like the understeer but if you can dial this out with a geometry reset a la Scoob then it may make life more interesting especilly if it's in conjunction with some decent modifications.

"I thought you could only buy a new TT if you were a girl or Gay!"

hey...nice post! although as your on page 3 of a thread about TT's dont you think you may be a tad late with the *** gags?

T

actually the responses on scooby net allow me to choose my cars with acuracy!

general opinion that bemmers are for tossers...so i got one! loved it, in fact its the best car ive ever had!

now the TT is getting some greif that must be the next step!

its like asking sadam hussein for his views on world happiness...once you know his opinion its a safe bet that if you go the otherway you will be in the majority!

"Get a Z4 "

yep- i will test the Z4 as well...only problem is the SMG box they use is no the proper M3 SMG 2 box so i suspect the DSG from Audi will be better ( i want an auto)

also the 3.0 will suddenly be 2nd best when the Z4M comes out while the TT V6 is alwasy the fastest varient.

as for other ppls attitudes....i must live in a nice area as i have owned a 200sx, scoob, R1, S40 T4, 540, TVR in the last few years and have never had anyone race me (that im aware of) maybe i dont take any notice of the novas that wiz off at the lights.......maybe thats good!

i appreciate your'e on page 3....my point was that as someone rather late to the party to dive in with the jokes that have clearly been covered already is a tad pointless.

I have no experience of the SMG/DSG boxes so I can offer no insight other than to say the Z4 has one of the best manual gearboxes that I've ever come across.

As for other people's attitudes, I don't get the same hassle when I'm driving either the Scoob or my Landy - other drivers tend to get out of the way but it's something that you need to be aware of especially given the antipathy towards TTs.

Either way, if you like it, buy it and have fun.

Apart from the obvious hairdresser stuff we've already covered the only problem I can see with the TT is that it is now an old car, based on a discontinued model and is about to be replaced. They are also as common as the chavs who hang around your local spar shop at night.

Surely better to put your money into something new ie 350Z, Z4 or an S2000.

That said the TT is very cheap now and there is a good choice of secondhand cars. Wouldn't own one myself as I prefer cars that substance over style which the TT clearly isn't.

350z has a roof so is not a comparison, the s2000 is to small...its a cramped little car that wouldnt suit me as a daily drive.

the Z4 is possible.

but.....to say the TT has no substance is just narrow minded, it now has the 3.2 V6 and DSG which hardly makes it a discontinued model (the Z4 3.0 will look old hat once the Z4 M is out)

you will also find 90% of road tests saying the VAG DSG system is stunning....in 10 years mot cars will run this type of system.

when they launch an STi 15 with an uato manual gear shift just remember audi started it!

The 350Z has a roof, well the coupe does, I've seen the topless version for sale in the back of Autocar, although you'd have to go the grey import route. Very exclusive though.

I didn't say it had no substance either, just that it has more style than substance. 2 very different things.

The problem I found was the TT had grip in abundance but made a very bland driving experience, the steering seemed artificially weighted and very vague and not at all fast for 225hp...

Depends what you want a car for, a great all rounder but IMO not a drivers car.

As has been said before forget what everyone elae thinks

Why do you want an auto for a drivers car, or performance car at best ?
