sisters boyfriend had a TT dunno which one but was top of the range. It's one of those cars I can't make my mind up about, I think they look OK, but a lot more common than impreza's and are really just a fashion statement. Always look at them as a girls car now...

incidentally the one the sisters boyfriend had was chipped up to 280 bhp, but still said my unmodded MY00 would leave it behind.

about due for facelift i reckon - it's looking a bit dated now.

The best thing about opinions is that we all have different ones! Do what you want to do not what others think you should do. If you like the TT on Friday then go for it but as mentioned I'd def try the Z4 as well - I love that 3.0 straight six!

I prefer the look of the TT (coupe though) to that of the Z4. As Evo said this month, Chris Bangle's designs look like the chassis is sagging in the middle

I have just read through everything you have written and I think if you like the TT for the qualities you have seen in it then you should go for it. My gripe is that it is a bit common and it always dissapoints me when I cross or pull up along side one at traffic lights etc. If it doesn't affect you, who cares.

A long time ago my dad was in the market for a TT (coupe). He cancelled his order when the demo arrived and he sat in it. The interior is stunning, but even at his lowly 5'5" he found it incredibly claustrophobic and described it "like sitting in a coffin".

He ended up buying an S2000gt which we still have and I steal fro him n every occasion possible (hopefully including bedford tomorrow). What I don't understand is how you can describe it as small inside. It is no smaller or harder to getg into than any of the many TTs I have passenered in and the few I have driven. Its interior dimensions cope with a fully grown adult male with room to cater for the mid six footer.

I would like to know exactly where all this extra size the TT has is?

If you are talking about external dimensions, then again I am confused, because I think you will find the S2000 is longer than the TT (as is the boxster btw). This was done so that the engine could be as far back in the chassis as possible to get close to 50:50 weight distribution. If you open the bonnet, you will find the block is practically under the windscreen.

As for the engine screaming, it is true it takes 6000 rpm, but if anything that makes it more pleasurable. You can drive it sedately whenever you want as it doesnt lack any ooomph at the bottom of the rev range, but the noise was made purely for a convertible. It is one of THE all time best sounding engines. Whats more important to me is that it was made as a drivers car and there is no question it is that above all else.

The later chassis (changed 2001) is slightly more forgiving yet still incredibly entertaining). Its so good in fact, that bridgestone still make SO2s for it.

adam.....if i fitted in an s2000 i would uy one today! .....but i dont!

i can assure you that at 6ft6 there is no way on this earth that i could fit in an s2000...in fact someone on the s2k forum had honda take out the std seats and put in race buckets to see if it helped! still no room for head or legs.

in contrast the TT has loads of headroom due to the curved roof- while its a pain to duck under the low roof at the window edge once inside its got plenty of head room- it is a bit cave like as rour head is level with the top of the window whereas its normal levl with the middle of your glass....but thats wy the roof comes off!

the Z4 is the real roomy car though- the Z3 was smaller that the honda but the Z4 has more room than the TT but without the cave bit. Both the TT and the Z4 have more width to sit in, the squezze into a honda may be nice prior to going for a blast but not when i have my expensive suit on and have to squash it into that seat for drive through traffic! all the aircon in the world wont keep your back cool if its crushed into such a small seat (i appreciate this is all relative o my size...any jockeys may find these issues of no concern!)

Have you considered buying a cabrio instead of a roadster? The S4 convertible is coming out soon!

Having said that, why bother. If you have found you like the TT then you should buy it.

I would be inclined to try one of the new TVRs though first, as despite not thinking the TT is gay, I do think the TVR might be moe individual, more fun, and better looking.

thought of a cabrio but its such a compromise...i like small calls, and most cabrios feel like big cars with no roof- you dont get the same sense of fun you should with a soft top.

i had a TVR last year...ticked all the boxes apart from it wouldnt work....and for all the "ohhh, thats what they do sir" BS you hear its not very cool to have to push your car away from the fuel pump because it overheated after a blast!

if the germans built a TVR i'd have it....but i suppose they would call it a 911 and charge £80k for it!

ps- boxster is dinky. i remember clarkson saying once that, because he was tall "he could fit in any car that he wanted to be in" which is a nonsense, fine for a trackday but try driving for a few hours with your head crooked to avoid the roof!

I owned a TT coupe (225) a couple of years back, adn it is a bitter sweet experience, with a few mods the car can be quick, but just non involving. Plenty of understeer into fast corners, but other than that, it just drives like it is on rails!!. Got rid because they became more common that any other car on the road. In my humble opinion though, i have never had a car where the interior is such a nice place to be!!

hated it!

it was a coupe, which is stupid as the rear seats are useless and take up space.

the interior is funky but not actually that nice for a place to sit for a while, for a 30k car its a very plastic.

handling is ok but again, not great for a 30k "sports" car.

V6 sounds good....feels slow

gear box- clever but i prefer he normal auto in my beemer, it may not change as quick but is smoother and at least i know what its doing.

ride is harsh

made me feel ill after 2 hrs in it- odd as it also made my wife ill as well! TTitus?

next stop Z4 or used M3 !

edit to add- audi dealer at Reading was superb - just gace me the keys and said bring it back later, no sales, no pushing.

also- the new A6 all road thing was cool....less w4nker looking than the X5 but still beefy!
