May be he could'nt be bothered I used to have a 220 and as with all rover K series engines there rubbish! How many head gasgets have you had? Yes there Quick ish in the 220 version but still a s**t Engine. The only decent engine of recent time's in a rover was the early 90s in the form of a 216/416 and thet because its a honda engine. Jap engines cant be beaten. For reliability. Sorry its a fact if the driver chose to he would have been able to catch and over take you without any problems.

The engine in the 220 TUrbo is regarded one of the best turbo engines you can get
So all the high-output 2-litre turbo engines are Rover T series eh? Scoobs, Evo's & Cossies are all tunable to over over 500bhp. What will a T series take?
As an ex owner of a 220 Turbo Coupe and now an 03 WRX I can say that the Rover was utter sh1te. It had a chassis so badly conceived that it has to have a huge intrusive crossbrace on the boot to stop it warping. The suspension was so stiff that the ride was awful, I could go on but I can't be ar$ed.

Smooth, powerful, very little lag, very reliable if treated right. Its the 'T' series engine by the way.

Yes there regarded as a great engine within the motor trade your right. The reason being there alway's in workshops having head gasgets done. Thats why i like them more £££'s for me from jokers like you.

the 620Ti i had had to be decoked after only 30,000 miles. Valves were sticking. Speedo also went awol. Pretty reliable apart from that though. Went through front tyres every 10-12,000 miles which was a pain so switched from Pirelli to Michelin which were much better.
Can't dis-agree with that probably a honda engine though and i was meaning only to quote the rover engine.

from the trusty pages of evo
thought I'd have a look at the back pages of evo to see what the technical data times for the rover 200 turbo coupe vs a wrx with ppp - thought I'd be scientific about it since evo are quite good at that sort of thing.
subaru wrx (PPP)
This brings us to the 50-70 times. the 220 turbo coupe has a faster 4th gear 50 to 70 time than the scoob but if the wrx was in 4th gear then it wasn't racing. I can't find a 3rd gear 50-70 time for the rover coupe and can't find torque curves for both cars.
so its quite tight really. one driver just needs to back off and the other one will pass. The same goes for fiat 20v and honda integra R's. With all other things being equal, the numbers don't stack up for the rover unless it has been heavily modified and has great rubber, or indeed, the WRX is on 95octane fuel and not warmed up.

(this months evo mag)
subaru wrx (PPP)
bhp/rpm: 261/6000
lbft/rpm: 257/3500
weight: 1395kg
bhp/ton: 190
0-60: 4.8s
max: 150 mph
ins: 17
I looked up some quarter mile times*: the best times for standard cars range from 13.7 to 14.4 for a wrx wagon. however, I imagine those with some fettling skills will be able to get that down to lower 13's
rover turbo coupe isn't in evo. oh well. so I had a wee poke around the web looking for some data:lbft/rpm: 257/3500
weight: 1395kg
bhp/ton: 190
0-60: 4.8s
max: 150 mph
ins: 17

quarter mile times*: theres a 220i turbo coupe at 14.9 and one did santa pod in 14.2 but it was upgraded to 230bhp.
some standard car data:
0-60: 6.2
bhp: 197
max: 150 mph
torque: 237/2100
The WRX has a better 0-60 time (by 1.5 seconds) probably due to initial traction and better torque - 1.5 secs is a big difference though. The 1/4 mile times are probably more significant since our rover driving hero says he was up above 100mph. Again, a big gap in time when the subaru has passed the line. some standard car data:
0-60: 6.2
bhp: 197
max: 150 mph
torque: 237/2100

give me a scooby anyday
lets face it, the Scooby wins on sheer looks alone, doesn't it?
no rover could ever beat the exotic far eastern er, beauty. Besides which, even my grandad wouldn't be seen dead in a rover now!

My 02 WRX Wagon was overtaken by a Vauxhall Cavalier earlier.........
Then again it was being driven by the missus within the speed limit.
But do you think it's slow?? Should I trade it in and get a Nova????

far eastern beauty?First of all, the guy who designed it, is Greek. His name is Andreas Zapatinas. Unless his mum or dad were Japanese(which I KNOW they're not), there's nothing Japanese to it looks-wise .... Subaru also happens to belong to GM.....
If you want a far eastern beauty, look at the Soarer or the RX-7 or the Supra, or the 350Z or the 300ZX......Not at a car with an identity crisis....a corolla lookalike with a huge zit on the bonnet, a picnic table in the back, a turbo and 4wd....
It may be a good piece of machinery but good looking it certainly isn't.And this goes to EVOs too.
I am not a fan of Rovers, but at least i don't have my head up my @rse when it comes to my car...Let's be honest, you get a car that you can afford.Don't tell me that if you made millions you'd have a scoob.
Get a grip FFS....

My MY04 Wagon NON PPP (with 208 miles on the clock and deffo not run in yet), loaded with the dog, the kids, the shopping, the roof box.... still goes fast enough to surprise Audi S3 drivers, and goes round corners like it's on rails (of course the S3 may not have been trying )
I've been told the Bristh Leyland... sorry Rover 220 Turbo 'Coupe' is quite fast, but I ask everyone to be honest..... if a very nice person wanted to give you a 220 or an Impreza which car would you prefer?

Do you actually compare a 2003-designed £20k car with a 10 year old £2k car?!?!?!?
