No point at all Mr XT. I was just trying to lighten the mood or be a little funny..... but there again I drive a Subaru so humor is not my strong point!
I'm off to kiss my Wagon good night.... night night.

how many times can threads like this pop up 'my car beat another car with a higher spec'
LMAO at the guy in the st170 who held off a scoob. At the end of the day your driving on the public roads, one person against another with no knowledge of the other drivers abilities or intentions, but realistically, in matched conditions (driver, start etc) the scoob would win, same goes for the frikin rover driver, ya doyle.
there is no way that if i tore up some bloke in an FQ340 that i would say 'my wagon totally destroyed some Evo, he gave up at 125mph' cos that would make me such a big man.
sort it out peeps, at the end of the day, all these little stories are set in the real world of a 70mph speed limit with other innocent people driving around.
Think on.....

Having owned both a Rover 220 Coupe Turbo and two Scoobs (currently a 'fairly' rapid RB5) - my thoughts as follows -
Rover was easily as quick in a straight line as a classic Scoob and therefore more than a match for a bugeye/blobeye. However, throw damp/wet conditions or things called corners into the mix and the Rover was just total ****e. Traction to equal teflon and suspension to rattle fillings etc.
I went from the Rover thinking it handled ok but got the shock of my life first time I drove a Scoob - certainly put a few things into perspective!
Anybody can do straight-line given enough horsepower; quite another thing to make it go round corners effectively!

Its down to the driver knowing his car and how to use what power he has available. An ST170 revs to 7.35k and pulls all the way (Particularly after 6k revs). Why is it so funny that a focus with 170bhp can match a bugeye standard scoob from 50-100 mph? Off the mark the scoob would win hands-down but we dont all drop the clutch at 4k revs off the lights and instead rely on power delivery when accelerating through the gears.
The scoob driver made his intentions quite clear by driving up my ar$e. As he stepped out to overtake he would have been on full-boost - I would say that gave him somewhat of a start..

i used to own a 220 coupe,now have a MY02 bugeye,thought the rover was good,but the scoob is in a different class.
don't want to slag other cars as each to its own,i had a fiesta XR2i before that and thought that was a good little car also.
its up to individual taste and what u can afford.
P.s Tankies are the scum of the earth, bet you only drive your scoob to the mc donalds on the other side of the tracks in Fally.

I've said it once and i'll say it again... If you're not jealous of a scooby what are you doing on this site, you won't catch me on a site for Rover 220's or for focus 170's.
And don't give me that " I had a scooby when you was in nappies" rubbish, cos you haven't now so move on.
Peace and love,
Pittsey.

pwig !!
Is this a serious thread !! I worked for rover just under 10 years ago and believe me the 220 turbo's were quick in there day,as was the meastro turbo and the montego but they were never reliable even if you had a full service done every 100 miles they wouldnt have been. And i know the build quality was poor and it was never regarded as one of the" best turbos around" by anyone (well only the silly sods who bought them to keep me in work).
If fact the rover service departments were always complaining that the 220's were breaking down even as they went in for there pre delivery inspection !
And you will proberbly find the the wrx driver decided it wasnt worth loosing his licence for...
Im sure your rover is fast ! but if you (were) racing a wrx 03 plate and beat him it is because you dont care if loose your licence and he did ? sorry but that is a fact.. no twistes or problems with car its simply down to the driver of the wrx not risking loosing hes licence and i think you know that.
As for the scoobies blowing up after 125mph you know that bulls**t as well ! as i didnt car about loosing my licence (was spending a bit of time with queen ) i took my 95 uk turbo on the m42 south at 3am one night 2 months ago and i pasted 140mph and my engine sounds and runs great and its got 125,000 mile on it !!!

I've had the WRX 01 Bugeye for about 2 months after upgrading from a Cavalier V6. I love the way the car handles on the twisties & probably wouldn't swap it for anything in it's category but lets be honest about 1 thing - the stock wrx is not a particularly fast car (Just look at the huge market of after market performance products available for it!).
I used to car share with my brother to work and frequently drove his Rover 620Ti. I'm not getting involved in any arguments over reliabilty or 0-60 & BHP figures but in straight line "real world" performance, my scoob has NOTHING over the rover 620ti letalone the 220 turbo which I understand to be even lighter than 620 & scoob. Can't comment on the Classic impreza as I have never had the opportunity to floor one.
I'm a little surprised by the comments of those who have owned the rover 620Ti or 220 and think the Impreza is that much quicker - it really isnt (in it's stock form).
Mark.

on my 2nd sub (1st my98 uk2000 - present my95 wrx auto) - prior to this had 620ti (M95) - basically "wolf in sheeps clothing" - absolutely hammered turbos in bradford/leeds including few astonished & puzzled sub owners! rover was light compared to sub - put it this way - london heathrow to bradford on xmas day 1hr & 40 mins (with stop at a service station and a quick hi/bye with paul daniels) - BUT i prefer the sub and you ALL know why!!!

Pittsey did it occur to you that I may have an ST170 AND a MY02 WRX ???? See my WRX in Members Gallery......... http://www.btinternet.com/~nickadams/Russ/scoob3.jpg
I am not knocking the scoob I am just making the point that any half-quick car can hold its own provided its driven correctly.

I cannot believe that pwigs trolling has gone on this far, beggars belief it really does!
For what its worth, I've driven pwigs Rover and it has excellent traction, goes quite well, handled quite well in a bouncy kinda way, its main failings were horribly light steering and poor brakes (compared to my ITR for example). And I've seen this young man pilot this car and he doesn't hang about in it (be that a good thing or not ) so its perfectly possible someone in a bugeye tried to outrun him and failed, prolly gave up after a ton or so as most ppl should imo.
What really cracks me up is the idea that Scoobs are the be all and end all of performance motoring, get a grip guys, they aren't. All this talk of remap, PPP, bump steer mods etc etc tell anyone that they need fettling just to make a decent fast road car, and still they aren't *that* quick as a rule as most drivers rely on the cars abilities rather than their own to keep them alive. I've seen it countless times, and I'm not singling Scoob owners out in particular but there does seem to be an alarming amount of poorly driven ones on the streets now. I guess because the muppets can afford them now?
Chill out folks, pwig was after a bite and boy did he get one!

There has been 100's of threads like this before and no doubt will be 100's more.
FYI too, I do not own a Scoob.

Hey Lynne, maybe you should start a dating service? chaos and Pittsey seem made for each other...
Then again, I think either of them would be happy enough with pwig. A threesome maybe?

As for Nissan, aren't they owned by Renault now which is French.
