GodSpeed group buy £900!! (Brembos)
#31
Call me stupid but im not on this thread slating people as its not on especially if there are to be a major supplier of brakes to this community! I bought some 330mm AP’s for the 22B and they are friggin Awesome! I am gauging information as I may need to change the brakes on the RS200 in the coming term.
It sounds as though these Godspeed Brakes are good, so I might even purchase a set and see how they compare. Im not one that follows the trend but prefer to try things for myself and then make a conclusion unlike some who don’t like a product and have never tried it will slate it until it fails completely. This however is damn right out of order so could Mr Godney reply to my question about can I use this Kit on Track and does he only recommend EBC and 1144 Mintex for track?
I am curious to know as this could be a major money saver instead of shelling out loads on AP’s, or I might even swap the AP’s from the 22B to the RS200 if the Gspeed Brakes are not upto constant track days.

Cheers Stef and Harj for constructive comments. Godspeed don't recommend the EBC's or 1144's for track use and they have advised me to replace with a suitable compound for track days - fair enough and easily done. If you have any questions it may be a good idea to call Ian Godney direct on 01656 660899. Regardless of a group buy, I will be getting a set soon. By the way, a 6 pot 'kit' is available (AP callipers) for £1450 I think.

This thread is excellent, I also looked at the Godspeed brakes and (because I don't know anyone doing hard track use on them) at the moment am still decided on a full AP setup.
The comments from Stef, Harj, Hoppy, Ian Watkins and Ian Godney himself I have found *very* useful. These are important questions being asked (and answered) not just a random slagging off as others seem to have indicated.
(Still not changing from AP until an independent test, by a track braking Impreza driver though)
Wouldn't supplying a set to someone for a trial period + measurements etc be the ideal solution ? It's not a small amount of monet after all (£900 * 10? or more)
[Edited as it didn't read how I meant it]

SORRY Pete Croney, I didn't want to say anything bad about your brake kit. I think all of your products are awesome, especially your downpipe that puts a big smile on my face everytime I use my car....
...what I wanted to say is, that all these aftermarket suppliers buy parts from different manufacturers and put it together and then this is their kit.
...I will see how good the Godspeed brake kit is on my Scooby....
...so each to their own....
thank you
ric

Pete Croney,
Re "Years ago we had a small percentage of Brembo disc failures, all resulting from hard track use."
The 3 sets of brembo "fully-floating" discs that warped on my car, all within the last 18 months, had never been out on track.
I must add that the AP replacement discs are a fantastic improvement over the brembo discs, thank you.

I forgot that that weren't a track hound and have remembered two other customers who weren't. Quite right to point that out Moray.
We changed to AP as our disc supplier last summer and have had no warranty returns since the change.
The quality of the disc and bell is EVERYTHING in a brake kit.
Just pleased we got it sorted for you

I am more than happy to test ANY brake kit from ANY supplier.
As I have been using the AP kit for a while and tend to use the brakes pretty hard , I think I would be in a good position to offer unbiased comparisons.
Mr Godney (or anyone else for that matter).....wanna put some on CK1?
Stef.

If it's your own property I thought people would tend to exercise a bit of mechanical sympathy If someone gave me them free to try then I'd go for it! I recently tested a set of Continentals to the canvass within 90 miles but that's not a representative test of the average customer!

Yeah but with brakes you (sorry I) don't realise I've fecked them till the disk has broken / warped so you *have* tested them to destruction.
I drove half a lap of Goodwood before I realised my disk had snapped
This is why I am not jumping on the offer immediately ..
1) The only reason I can see to spend this much cash is if you are using your car *hard* on a race track. (I'd be quite happy with 2 pots for the road)
2) The track is a *hard* environment, completely and utterly different to the road .. no comparison. A brake set may be fine for the road (eg my STI 4 pots are perfectly good) but be complete and utter rubbish on the track - esp with someone who uses their brakes, I do and I'm sure others do too.
3) I have already spent a lot of money replacing disks / callipers / pads (back and front for all 3) I'll be damned if I'm going to spend more unless it's indesctructable (ok, reasonable wear rates)
I have only done 3 track days, total cost in brake consumables is £1K +
I think a lot of other people on this thread have been in a similar position, and are also worried that because this setup is an unknown quantity this could be throwing money away for nothing ....
Still can't see why Stef doesn't get a loaner set for a month or two, I know he brakes like a fairy - the big poof but he is the SIDC Track Day bloke (or whatever the title is) and the results will be properly reported.

I hope that you lot aren't in a rush for your kits. I ordered a 308mm conversion (MY97 with 16" alloys) 5 WEEKS ago and I am still waiting for them to turn up (they quoted 3 weeks max). The thing that p****d me of the most is the fact that they have the money but are not interested in giving me an update on the whereabouts of the kit.
Beware before you buy. I will if I want anything from them again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This doesn't sound good. I suppose the number of possible buyers has gone down a bit now. I was thinking about a rear kit for my car (Will have AP up front), but after these incident I think I have changed my mind. The last thing you want is to buy from someone who don't bother to answer your calls or mail. I'm not up for the kit anymore at least. Will have to be AP on the rear too....ohh expensive!
