well if each person crashed into the one in front individually then its not as much your fault as it first seemed. Seems fairer that each should claim off the one behind, if thats what happened.
However you can only really stall when not moving, certainly not at 20mph. Don't see how you could have got up to this speed if the person at the front had stalled and therefore never moved.
Guess you had to be there to see what happened.

you did have to be there but there are 3 sets of lights within 200 metres aand a lot of traffic, presuming the car that may have stalled was at the next lights which change a few seconds after the lights i moved from
just to be controversial the 2nd car was driven by an old man
all are ok by the way, but ive just had a letter from a solicitor, probably whiplash

ok ok but as the alleged stalling took place as lights turned green this scenario is unlikely

From that picture it looks like although the lights are green there is nowhere for the front car to go so maybe he just was waiting for some space?

Where is the alleged staller? I thoght the other three cars invovled were directly in front of you but you then said the staller was at the next set of lights.
Are you sure you were there?
You said before you were looking in your o/s mirror ready to get into the outside lane but the pic says you are all already in the outside lane.
All a bit suss.

LOL, So do you drive a red or a black car?
So cars "B" and "C" arn't suffering a loss when they loose their no claims then? I think it sucks that you loose your no claims when a car knocks you into another car.
"Knock for knock" is only fair if you hit the car infront of you before being hit from behind yourself! i.e. the accident is partly your fault!

its blue actually
had a thought the other day, ive owned 3 blue cars in 17 years and all have had accidents in them, for the record one was none fault and another mine with no other party involved, i hit a wall (that corner was sharper than i thought!) and then a mate wrote it off losing it on a bend a few week after that (in th 80's) ahh the good old days

My guess is that the lights turned green, all 4 cars set off. Car 1 approaches the 2nd set of lights and either the traffic already there hasn't gone, or thinks the lights aren't green.
Therefore Car 1 stops. Car 2, suddenly realises Car 1 has stopped so slams on brakes, Car 3 slams on brakes, Car 4 slams on brakes.
Now the question is did Car 4 hit car 3 hard enough to push it into Car 2, and in turn push car 2 into car 1.
Or did they all crash in the order they braked but Car 4 is picking up the whole bill.

Either way your insurance Co. is going to pay out, how much depends whether car 2 or 3 does a "Tiggs"
But to answer your original question, you don't have much chance of claiming off car 3

If there were no witnesses I wold have driven off at that point. Then it would be your word against his that an accident had even taken place. I couldn't let myself be taken for a ride like that.

Insurance co refused to investigate at all and just paid out believing his story. My car had no damage.

swings and roundabouts, isn't it? a while back, when i had the subaru, i was parking, looking over my shoulder as i was reversing into a tight space. i didn't notic that some loopy cow in a band new skoda fabia was trying to squeeze passed me instead of waiting for me to park, as the front swung out, my tyre caught her bumper, leaving it nicely balck and a little dented. i suppose this would have probably been considered my fault - anyway, the woman got all hot under the collar - i gave her my details (i was parking outside my house) and never heard from her again - result!

Thats more of a toughie.
Whilst you have to be aware, once you've started your manourve you'd think she has some responsibility to give way. No idea where the law stands on this one though.

If someone hits you in the rear then as others have said it's their fault in 99% of cases.
I once brake tested a *** in a white astra van who was tailgaiting me in a 30zone, he hit the back of my company car. Blame was apportioned 100% to the other driver and I got a nice holiday in the Reunion Isles with the whiplash money (seemed to clear up very quickly once I'd got the cash )

I think you'll find that if he hadn't been a few feet from my bumper as I drove at the speed limit he would have been able to stop. Of course the fact I often saw this guy behaving antisocially on my commute to work had nothing to do with it. Drive too close and rear end someone and you are f****d, I don't feel one ounce of remorse for anything that may have happened, in fact I'd do it again.

Just because someone else is driving dangerously, it doesn't mean you should!

quote: "I hope you never complain about the cost of your insurance then!"
My insurance is quite cheap actually,
Q Any claims or conviction in the past 5 yrs
A. No.
good job they don't ask about the 10 yrs previous isn't it?
Also if you believe that less pay outs for insurance companies would equal cheaper premiums then you are being naieve.
