Suresh - you've hit the nail on the head - a well balanced comment at last - thanks!

Turboman - I think the whole village has formed an opinion of him.

RR_WW - I think you'll see from my comments that, if indeed he has a conviction as suspected, he hasn't changed one iota.....

Harry

Suresh solely made a social comment. It does nothing to help you with your current predicament.

Are you just out on this thread to make some statement regarding punishment and rehabilitation?

Or is it easier to unite against someone (as a village) if that person has a criminal conviction?

As before, some people are *scum* even if they haven't got a criminal conviction. You (collectively) have to decide how you're going to deal with the problem, not just do nothing because you've conveniently found out that he was a convicted armed robber. Are you looking for ways NOT to have to deal with him?

Also, "Armed Robber" is an emotive title. It implies violence of the shot-gun wielding thug type, the one that shoots first and knocks down little old ladies. Whereas the crime of "armed robbery" also extends to someone who walks quietly into a shop with a banana under his jacket and pretends its a gun. In fact, demanding money whilst threatening someone with anything is armed robbery.

This man is dangerous, if you see him do not approach at any cost but ring the police.

Puff - TBH, it's not a predicament at all...... The police have been involved in a number of incidents relating to this individual, although many people in the village are frightened to make a statement to the police agianst him, because they fear for their safety.

I'm not really interested in making social comment about 'punishment & rehabilitation'. It's not relevant to me at all in this context.

The collective feeling in our community is that we'd like him to move somewhere else. We don't care where, so long as it's not in our locality.

I agree that Armed Robber is emotive - it also covers a multitude of potentially very different scenarios and offences. That's why I'd like to know a little more about the alleged offence(s) and convictions.

All of which brings us full circle really..... It was a straightforward question, which seems to have metamorphosed into something that certainly isn't of interest or relevance to me in this particular context. If I'd wanted to start a thread pertaining to social comment and rehabilitation, I would have stated this in the first instance.....

you not be from round ere , typical NIMBY comment 'The collective feeling in our community is that we'd like him to move somewhere else. We don't care where, so long as it's not in our locality'.
Its about time people took responsibility if its an issue deal with it through the Police/Courts/council or face to face. Better that than trying to move him on to be some one elses 'problem'.

Camk - you've no idea how we've tried.... The police aren't interested, people are too scared to testify. It's not a NIMBY comment - it's more that we're fed up with hassle from a complete ar*ehole..... Read my posts carefully and you'll see....
