Well, you'll all be glad to know I was so swayed with your arguments, I went down to the travel agents this afternoon and booked a 3 week holiday for 2 to Florida flying out next week. Can't wait. A Scoobynet success story.

Not true. AFAIK if you go through some travel companies (like Virgin Holidays) you get the Ultimate Hopper included with the cost, but as you are clearly doing yourself, wouldm't apply.

Best bet is to do seperately, and get some discounted rates for the Disney hotel - which will be for the room only, and buy whichever Hopper ticket is most appropriate for the time you want to spend there.

When we first went to Orlando back in 1992, I was dreading it. I was just doing it for the kids and I was one of those people who was way up my own **** thinking I was far too cultured and there was no way I was going to fall for all the hype. Well, guess what? I did! I love it and now that I'm all grown up I don't need to feel embarassed about saying so. Sure there are plenty of places in the World I'd love to see which are far more credible (and far more people hellbent on telling me so ), but what the ****? I'm having a fantastic time.

Interestingly, of all the people who've asked me over the years why I keep going back and told me that there are so many more worthy places to visit, most of them have ended up visiting Orlando and all but one of them has loved it. And even that one person didn't hate it.

Matt -- the confusion I had was that if you go to the "Disney Travel" site, if you select an onsite hotel the only ticket you can pair with it is the "Ultimate Park Hopper", but if you book a "Disney Good Neighbour" or one of the ones in the Downtown Disney area you get a choice of tickets. Was thinking of going for the Port Orleans French Quarter and a 5-day Hopper.

I'll give them a call at the weekend and sort it out. Flights already booked (got a decent deal on them) so just need hotel, park tickets and car hire.

There is so much to do in Florida that you will have to be pretty selective. You might find that two days in Disneyland is enough, especially walking about in the hot sun, and it might be more interesting to try some of the ather attractions. All the other big attractions are good, maybe with the exception of "Gatorland". There used to be a small wildlife park on the way from Orlando to Kissimmee which had alligators and friendly deer in more natural surroundings. Crystal Springs was good but a bit of a distance from Orlando. A tour of Cape Canaveral is also hard to beat for sheer interest.
Daytona of course and a visit to the beach there with the singing sands.

Good luck Carl, you may find that whoever you speak to at Disney, may say that you have got to book a package, but you do not at all. If they won't have it, either ask for a supervisor, or, ring back later.

We got back about 3 weeks ago and can't wait to get back out there again. We are hoping to go down to the Florida Keys and Miami next year as we have done the disney and Universal thing a few times now. Saying that, I'd happily go back again and again and again and again

We were only there a week, so did the Disney stuff (except Epcot) and not the Universal stuff. Was thinking of returning for 14 days -- 10 at a hotel near Universal followed by 4 in the Keys. Still got two park days and a water park day remaining on the Disney tickets, so we could use them then.

Although the Disney experience is a bit on the false and glossy side, the customer service was excellent -- nothing was too much trouble for the "cast members" in the hotels, restaurants and theme parks.

All the staff bend over backwards to help. That's their culture, either that or their pay checks depend on it

We were there 2 weeks and did, loads of disney parks (including epcot) and both universal studios. We were supposed to go to Daytona and Nasa but my girlfriend was not feeling 100% so we had a few relaxing days.

We also have 2 days left on our disney tickets so we will have to go back at some stage, shame

We go in around 4 weeks, for a 3 week stay, so we are all rather excited. Staying in a Villa for 3 weeks, with a night at the Grand Floridian for my wife's birthday with a meal at Victoria and Alberts (at the Grand Floridian), which regularily comes top in the food critics reviews for the whole of Orlando, and also 2 nights at Portofino Bay at Universal Resort.

So we will officially be totally skint again when we come back!
