Brendan,

The vote in this country dictates which bunch of politicians run our own administration at the moment even if much power has already been devolved to Brussels.

Should the constitution be accepted in the form that this Government support, our votes will be for our Euro MP's who will be a very small section of a government drawn from 25 countries. As such it will then be worth the square root of virtually nothing. I can't believe you don't realise that anyway.

So yes, here we definitely go as you said, and I think it is a valid point to say the least!

And with a few well placed puctuation changes...

The point of this thread was not to discuss the rights or wrongs of a European Constitution, but to discuss weather. The media influenced British public are capable of making the decision in the form of a referendum. That is in the best interest of the UK.

I don't know why you think it's on;y the media that will be an influance. Don't you think that the gov will not try to "bend" the facts to favour their view? Tony has been stating that this is just a "tying up" excercise, but you can bet your last dollar-pound that he will be spinning the "this is for the UK to be at the heart of Europe, we are either in or out" line again...

No they're not and that's the problem. To those of you who think that the British public aren't so stupid you're in denial. The majority of this nation thinks being intellectual is watching 2 soap operas and being able to work out how many beers and **** they can buy with the loose change in their pocket.

I'll say it again if you don't understand it you shouldn't be allowed to vote on it and the majority of Britain either aren't capable of understanding it or are too busy drinking, smoking and watching footie to be bothered finding out.

tiggers.

So surely it follows that these same people won't vote either?

IMHO a United states of Europe would be a disaster, a European Army would be a disaster can you imaging the hassle of the language barrier in the heat of battle.

Also just supposen the elected President came from Germany, France Italy, Spain or any where else, don't you think that their own country would get preferential treatment and slowely the laws and ways of said country would be forced on all the others. I mean I feal really sorry for you if the Germans get to be president or chancellor or anything else in a position of power, they have absolutely no clue how to manage and run their own country let alone the whole of Europe.

I do reckon they should give you the TÜV though so you Brit scooby owners can suffer like we have to over here

No, that's the problem, they will. Their chosen rag will contain carefully crafted monosyllabic rhetoric designed to appeal to what matters to them (like if they vote a certain way it will increase the cost of their ****/beer) hence they'll vote (on their way to the pub probably )

Yes, of couse the government will try and influence to make the same discision as they made with more inside info than what the public at large have.

The problem is the press will be encouraging the opposite to what the government recommends in the attempt to bring down the government because it sells papers, not because its in the best interest of the country.

So if the government thinks we should vote against it, then the press will have us vote for it and we'll get a constitution thats wrong for us.

@unclebuck: I've already justified my bad spelling in this thread, so thanks for your valuable contribution.

Yeah tiggers I thought about that after I posted it.

The French would run away, the Italians would switch sides and the Spanish would just go home leaving us to do the work!!!!!
