I've only just seen this (I know, joins the party as it's winding down) and can only say that it's a question of context. If this was said as a joke it might be dubious but potentially not a racist comment, but said in the way it was was epecially offensive, almost as if "yeah, he's useless, but hey, he's a ******, and we all know that they're bloody useless, so what else can you expect?"

Calling someone a ****** is especially offensive as

(a) it's picking on someone specifically because of their colour/race, when that has no relevance

(b) it's known by any white person that the use of this towards a black person is the one word most likely to give offence. For someone to say this, therefore, shows a complete insensitivity, the more so if they're a professional media person.

I had a dog many years ago, and it always used to attack other black dogs. It was never taught to do that, it just did it. When out for a walk, as you passed another dog, say a brown one, they would sniff each other as they passed, might get the odd growl, but that was it. Pass a black dog, and it was straight in for the fight.

It's still offensive if you call me fat and specifically mean it to be insulting.
