Anyone else reckon NACRO is using racism as an opportunity to wind a few people up and give himself the chance to pontificate ? does he really feel that strongly about what Ron Atkinson said, oh big f*cking deal he said the N word, he will be dead in a few years and the next generation who dont think that is acceptable will take over, remember this is a man who was brought up in the 1940's when things were very different and old habits die hard, not sayin he was right to say it but things are changing, but it wont happen overnight.
I for one am not proud to be white, its just a byproduct of both my parents being white how can I be proud of that ?, I am also not going to beat myself up over it, it just happened that way. I am not to blame for slavery that happened hundreds of years ago and dont feel any guilt about it, I didnt do it.
The whole racism thing p1sses me off, you cant say P**i and Ni**er but its quite alright to insult people in a thousand other ways, fat, speccy, spotty, ginger etc etc, whys that acceptable, the end result is the same ?

Insulting someone by description is very different Nacro to racism. Calling him a ****** was nothing more than being descriptive but with a very taboo and insulting word instead of calling him black. Just the same as if he had been noticeably tall for example and called him a lanky tw@t.
He would have been racist if he was slurring him because of his colour and accusing him of being lazy and of a poor performance because of his colour, which from what was said I cant see you can accuse him of. It was nothing more than insulting someone's performance by picking on descriptive attributes about their appearance - like many have said similar to calling someone 4 eyes or lanky or fat or spotty... etc etc. Unfortunately describing someone by their colour and using a very offensive word to many is like shooting yourself in the foot. He realises what he said was very wrong and beyond idiotic and has appologised for it.
For someone to have been so prominent in bringing black players into football in the 80's when racism was at the core of footballs hooliganism he could hardly be deemed a racist. He made these players careers by giving them a place in the team where they wouldnt have got a chance at other clubs. I don't believe he is a racist for one moment, I do believe he is a bloody idiot though but he has always been known for coming out with stupidly and badly worded quotes. This one is just his worst.
The TV debates are merely jumping on the PC bandwagon and are a disgrace. They are stirring it all up and blowing it out of all proportion. Anyone who can't tell the difference between insulting someone by description (all be it over the top and unacceptable) and making racial remarks which are aimed at someone purely because of colour are uneducated idiots and/or too willing to play the race card at the earliest opportunity due to a **** off huge chip on their shoulder

How many of the people jumping up and down on here, fuming about Big Ron being a racist, actually know him, or have met and spoke to him? Not many by the sounds of it.
My brother knows him quite well, and considers him to be a funny and genuine person - certainly not some right-wing **** as people are trying to make him out to be.
My opinion is that he is from the "old school" whereby he calls a "spade" a "spade", and is (or should read "was") unaffected by the ludicrous double standards that the pc brigade have managed to install into weak minded individuals in this nation.
Yes he was foolish to use the term "******" in a situation where he could be misinterpreted, and yes he's paid the price, more than paid it. Especially when you consider black rappers frequently use the term to boost their record sales. How come a black person can call another black person a "******" and not be racist?
Fact is, he isn't any more racist than the next guy, and as people have pointed out, he's spent a good deal of his time fighting against racism in his sport.
Whether he gets his job back on ITV remains to be seen - I for one hope he gets a similar job in the BBC, and replaces the mind-numbingly dull John Motson.
