I installed McAffee antivirus on my Desktop PC at home a couple of years ago and it then crashed during login everytime. Had to boot to safe mode to uninstall it. Switched to Norton AV and Personal Firewall (2001 versions!) and have since used 2003 and 2004 versions of Norton Internet Security and had absolutely no problems. I have a 600MHz laptop with Win2K and 128MB RAM and even that runs quite hapilly with no major resource usage. Yes there are quite a few threads in the task list, but they use vertually no processor time during normal use.

We (unfortunately) use McAffee anti-virus at work. It takes ages to start-up on login, then around 10:00 it does a daily update which lasts about a minute and freezes the PC then at 12:00 it does a full system scan which again freezes the system for about 30 minutes. A full system scan with Norton probably takes a little longer, but I can hapilly continue using my PC while its scanning.

I use Mcafee, mainly because my employer has a corporate deal and we get a home version free....seriously though, bought a new Dell P4 3.2 with XP Pro and Norton installed. Didn't find it very easy to use and in the end became frustrated with it and uninstalled it and replaced with Mcafee. On a different note I use Zonealarm as the firewall.

At work I can't access the options as its password protected! Tried that one straight away

At home, I would have tried changing the options if the PC didn't crash before I could do anything!
