Devils Advocat here....

I watch all sport from motorsport to football.... Simple answer! If you dont like football... DONT watch it!

Football is OUR game. It’s our national sport. Unfortunately its been ruined by the amount of foreign players that have come in and ruined our style of the game. Back in the 60’s- 70’s and even 80’s you couldn’t of said the same thing.

I agree that they are over paid for what they do. Lets just hope Rubgy doesn’t go down the same path in the next 10 years.

Football provides a forum for the worst aspects of modern culture in our society, led by the flagship bunch of t**sers Man Utd; Sti Wanna' most would be glad to have managed to leave the playground- most premiership footballers have not!

Sorry, I was just trying to help you football fans out with how to post in the correct forum - hardly the world's most difficult task unless you're a football fan of course

Tiggers - try commenting on the content of the thread, not it's location. Unless you're a wannabe Mod, that is?

The content of the thread is about football - I don't like football which is why I stay away from the Sports forum which is where this should be which is why I'm commenting on its location. That and it seems to wind a few of you up when you say football is crap which of course it is

The actual content of this thread is about how unsporting most footballers are, and that you rarely see such behaviour in other sports. So with the footballers being so unsporting, I felt that it would be wrong of me to place this thread in a sporting forum.

You have unsporting behaviour in all sports. Its just highlighted more with football because it has a greater audience. It amazes me that people who dont like football still watch it??? whys that ???

I like football. It just infuriates me that "men" of such physical stature and fitness have to act like frail old women when patted, in order to gain advantage over the opposition.

There needs to be more after-match reviews to be able to act upon such behaviour and stamp it out of the game. Maybe if these cheats knew that if the referee missed it, but the after match video reviews were unlikely to, and that they'd still get fined or banned, they'd be less likely to do it.

Football is required by the masses.

It allows all those who have less in their lives to gather together and find something worthwhile.......the footballers antics then feed the mags that allow the fans wives to find something to live for.

If there was no football these people would just roam the street, unsure of the point of life......some would cause trouble, others would decide that maybe there was something they could do with their own life instead of focusing on others. This is a problem in itself as, by virtue of luck, some would do well and crowd out the quiet place that the non fans currently fill in society.

Its like religion/bear bating/bull fighting/witch burning.....every age and every land needs to provide something for the masses.

As Shankly once said.....

Some people think football is a matter of life or death... i can assure them it is much more serious then that

I have to agree

Well I dont.
Football is **** and the tarts who play it, *******.
Motorsport requires more skill, intelligence, physical strength and a FAR greater will to win than football ever will.
By that yardstick, the F1, Superbike, Touring car and WRC boys are ten times the sportsmen than any spikeyhaired, overpaid, wifebeating footballer will ever be.
End of chat.

I wouldnt say no to the money, but defo wouldnt want their banal lifestyles; I am sure there are many exceptions but materialist one upmanship, constant media attention, facile parties; full of hangers on and dimwitted blondes plastered in make up dosent really appeal. Much rather spend the winter surfing in Hawaii or Fuerventura or cyling in the Alps.......

You're buying into the stereotypical Sun reading image that is projected. Then again a footballer, who stays in with his family, does charity work with local kids and ensures they are in peak physical condition to perform their job is hardly going to shift newspapers. If somebody wants to pay them vast amounts for something they are good at you can't really blame them can you?

PS surfing sounds fun!

I was going to let this thread wash over me as i have more than some sympathy for non football lovers i often despair over the amount shown on TV but sorry Astraboy this statment is utter bollocks

Yes to be sure motorsport does require a far more highly tuned physical fitness than the general public realises but i really dont think they could run there ***** off for 90 minutes i you want to talk out and out fitness apparently male ballet dancer are hard to beat

Skill ???? hard one to quantify as it can be subjective but i can assure you my pathetic attempts at 5 aside only serves to make me realise what phenominal "skill" the best proffesionals have as did my stint around Oulton park in what i "thought" was a fast lap in a toyota celica that was till the instructor stepped into the driving seat???

physicall strength ???? dont quite get you there

Intelligence HMMM dont think Macrae Hunt or Mansell are brains of britain or even Shumacer for that matter they do however have brains that are good at processing visual and physical input at phenominaly fast rates .

I do admit there are very few brains of britain in football after all there are thousands more of them than motor sport proffesionals hence a much lower common denominator but for every buthead "Wife beater" (i presume youre referring to Mr Collymore and mr Gascoine) i can quote you many more outstanding proffesionals who just do there job largely unnoticed by the gutter press.

Sportsmen ???? i assume you did see Schumacers deeply cynical and dangerous destruction of Damion Hills chances of a world title (for which i believe he got a pathetic slap on the wrist and was made to teach road safety :O) and if memory serves Hunt's nickname was Hunt the shunt need i go on ???

If you want to see will to win get a tape of David beckhams second half performance during the England greece qualifier of the last world cup he virtually took on a whole team by himself

Most of the antics football haters quote annoy me just as much, and the fact all other sports are marginalised frustrates me as well after all i am a motorsport fan i was at silverstone to see Mansell win in 1992 and used to see the btcc at donnington back in the 1980s with my dad but my choice money wise now goes on footbal (mostly)

To an extent Tiggs's statement about the masses is right and i have personally witnessed far too much violence and bad behavoiur on and off the pitch But that doesnt stop football being a great sport with highs and lows and it doesnt stop intelligent well meaning people (the vast majority) enjoying it and if there was no football the target of the masses would probably be rugby or something else

For my sins i am a season ticket holder at Derby County (yes i know all the jokes sheep ******* etc etc yawn yawn) and i have have followed them from the depths of the old division 3 (and possibly again ) to sixth in the Premeirship and enjoyed every minute to a lesser or greater degree it often becomes a useful "saftey" valve for my week day frustrations as i sit hollering in frustration/and or joy.

Why don't you football fans stick to what you know - football!

I haven't got the time or the inclination to pick apart your points regarding motorposrt above, but many of them are inaccurate particularly regarding fitness levels and intelligence.

As for why people like myself who don't like football get so fed up with it is it's always in your face no matter where you go or what you do in the UK. The first words out of most of the male UK population on meeting someone new is 'Who do you support?' usually delivered in that dull monotonic football thug voice.

I wouldn't mind if football had its place in society, on TV etc., but it is forced upon us everywhere you go (even in the Non Scooby Related forum on Scoobynet rather than the Sports forum where this should be )

Shhhh tiggers, or it'll get moved to the Sports thread, and then no-one will comment on it, ever again!
