WR1 residuals...

Totally agree. And why the hang-ups over the colour? Sounds more like the WI than a bunch a petrolheads. When you're sat in it you won't be able to see the colour after all. Just jealousy I think, I can't afford one so I'll slag it off.

Collecting mine soon!
Oh, and by the way, I am collecting mine in the next 10 days, and I don't give a t*ss what it will be worth in 12 months, cos I will be enjoying driving it so much it won't matter.

Isn't this all getting a bit out of hand I'm buying a WR1 because I chose it, I could have bought a different scooby but that's the one I wanted surely that's what it's all about I'm sure there's hardly anyone here that could take any of the performance scoobys safely to the limit so in the end it is just down to choice so dont get so het up about it all just enjoy...

Not read all of the posts here, but my days of buying new cars are long gone!
Having said that if you have 30k in capital I'm sure spunking it on a WR1 works out no more expensive than Mr. Joe Average with an older scoob with some 15k on finance. Depreciation hit's almost every car, the only way to do cheap motoring is to buy something for less than a grand, run it into the ground for a couple of years and sell it to a family member for more!
There's no getting away from it fast/desirable cars are expensive in every meaning of the word!

Bluto - as you well know, I am the smartest cookie on this BBS and I've forgotten more things than you will ever stretch to learn
And as for that person, that wannabbe, who is pslewis indeed!! I am the grandaddy of Scoobynet
I am the voice of reason in a sea of petrol fuelled stupidity - I am the beacon for the mechanical sympathy that should be bestowed upon our great car - I am the opposite of, "Lets go out and be complete tossers and thrash the bollox off it Apes"

Who
pslewis, my interpretation of the absolute Sh*t you write is that you are a sad old tw*t who has nothing better to do than write SH*T!
The what of Scoobynet? I think not. Go away and grow old alone.
And for the record, I do not go and thrash the bol**ocks of my car, my last scooby was trteated with total respect, reflected in a brilliant selling price, much above any prediction you could have made!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm... The best thing about the colour is that it may help it blend in more on the public road where I live, and with a bit of luck any passing scumbags may just overlook it.. but then again

Peronal Choice
This whole issue is about personal choice.
I ordered a new WR1 fully aware of the implications of buying a new car, I used to sell cars for a living and have always said I wouldn't go out and buy a new one myself. Times change and for various reasons I have decided what the hell.....
I am 35, single with no dependants, so why not have some fun?
My current Scoob is my daily driver and the WR1 is being bought for that purpose. The less hassle factor of a new car appeals because of this, as does the comfort of a 3 year warranty (which I can extend if I keep the car).
I am also bored of the hassle of getting my 98MY with decat through the MOT so more power with none of those problems come first MOT time also has a huge appeal.
If there was a UK STi Wagon I would have bought that instead, so I figured if I am going to compromise on that and get a 4 door I may as well get the best 4 door Subaru can offer me.
The WR1 is going to be cheaper to insure them my 98MY Wagon with PPP by a considerable margin so there is some financial sanity in all of this.
I considered an Evo but it would make a less appealing daily driver and I have toys for high days and holidays.
I have considered a used M3, I respect them enormously and have been very tempted. I am just not really a BMW sort of person (in the same way I respect Ferraris but I am not a Ferrari sort of person and thats why I have a classic Maserati instead). Also to qoute a friend I was discussing this with buying a M3 would be 'too predictable', it was what some people would expect me to drive.
Of course I care about the money I am going to lose, but I have made a decision to accept that. Now I just want to see my 1st WR1 in the flesh so I can convince myself I have not made a mistake and that >I< like the colour. Though I am also fairly sure that I will be binning the decals.
Kind regards,
Robin

All I'll add is good luck to all the new WR1 owners. Enjoy the car
I personally don't give a sh*t about residuals.
It's always nice to not lose much on a car but the reason we all buy them is to drive them and enjoy them.
I'd love to be able to afford a WR1 but my budget won't stretch to that yet.
I'm happy with my MY03 STi for the moment. It's my 1st Scooby and I'm loving it.

Whats this on the floor? Its a rattle - it appears to be one of Gooners toys, hold on a minute, heres another - and another, one here too .... good god - he threw ALL his toys out of his pram ......... bless!!
Clive the Brave? Tough name for hiding behind a keyboard - kid of 14, yes??
Come on, the WR1 is OK but look what else you could get for £30k!! I am a Subaru Impreza fan, but there are better cars for £30k!
But you go and spend you're money - just don't come here in 2 years time moaning and whining that your 'Special' is now worth the price of a night out with a Manchester tart!

Pete, what better new cars are there for 30K? Can't think of many, unless you fancy an Evo 8.
But then I am a blinkered Impreza owner!

pslewis!
Well, he is evidently unable to understand the messages posted, I don't throw things out of prams because of small talk from small people!
What he needs to understand is that I don't give a toss about residual values, people who buy because they want to, DON'T!
Anyone who buys a car and expects not to lose money is a FOOL!
Please Mr Lewis, don't give yourself too much credit, it takes a lot more than an old fool, who believes he knows everything about the world and all within it, to upset me!
Now go and drink you cocoa and get to bed, the Warden will be round with your pills later, and remember to put your incontinence pants on!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goodnight.

Look at all these toys again - tut, tut ...... please stop your childish ramblings or I will have to chastize you severely
As for what £30k can buy in the world of motoring - rule out new cars, they are for the simple minded - and what have we got?
A selection:-
First:-
2000 PORSCHE BOXSTER S, 2000, W
reg. 22000 miles, Ocean Blue, Grey leather, A/C, E/M, heated E/seats, wind deflector, Tracker, 6CD, FSH, ex cond, alloys 17, Tax, MOT. £30,000 . ONO. 07970 088220 .....
OK, a bit girly - but you will be looking at ZERO loss of money over 12 months!
Second:-
2003 MERCEDES-BENZ CLK Cabriolet 320 Avantgarde 2dr Tip Auto
Silver, air con, black leather electric seats, alloy wheels, cruise control, PDC, wind deflector. Still under warranty. 1 owner, FSH. No canvassers. 12000 miles. £30000.
Now, this is SERIOUS motoring!
Third:-
04(04) SAAB 9-3 AERO 2.0T CONVERTIBLE,
Silver Metallic, 3000 miles, Anti-lock Brakes, Drivers Air Bag, Alarm, Alloy Wheels, Central Locking, Climate Control, Cruise-control, Electric Seats, Electric Windows, Heated Front Seats, Power Hood, Trip Computer, Traction Control, Engine Immobiliser, Compact Disc Player £30100.
Southampton Saab
Like the WR1 - this is based on an Impreza!! BUT, you get class!
Fourth:-
2003 03 Reg BMW 325 Ci Sport
2 Doors, Automatic, Convertible, Petrol, 8,000 miles, MYSTIC BLUE Metallic, 1 Owner. harmen karden, blue hood, beige leather, ABS, windstop, 18" ALLOYS, Adjustable seats, Adjustable steering column/wheel, Air conditioning, Alloy wheels, Anti theft system, Body kit, Central locking, Colour coding - Body, Computer, Cruise control, Driver airbag, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Foglights, Front armrest, Head restraints, Leather seats, Metallic paintwork, Multi function steering wheel, Park distance control, Passenger airbag, Power assisted steering, Radio, Remote locking, Side airbags, Sports seats, Tinted glass, Traction control, Wood/wood effect trim. £30,250.
Allied Consultants
Pure German Class ooozes through this car!
There we go, take your pick - there are literally 1000's of cars out there that make much more sense than a WR1 ................... on the other side of the coin, however, the standard Impreza Turbo has no peers regarding value for money.
It's the special editions that attract the 'Money without Marbles' - just my humble opinion as ever

Bloody hell Pete, I didn't expect you to compile a book with your answer!!!
Not sure I agree with your list though, although I appreciate it is your list not mine.
I went for the 03MY WRX with PPP and Prodrive springs, new, but with a very good trade-in on my 3 year old 00MY Turbo - £14K. For the money I agree that the standard Turbo Impreza is hard to beat.
As I am now reaching old age, 39 next birthday, my next car wish list would currently be:
M3 - 1 year old
RS4 - 2 years old
If I owned a "Sensible hat" which I don't, I'd go for:
Passat/Audi TDi - 1 year old
Mondeo TDCi
All chipped to give a bit more power of course.
The other alternative would be to keep my WRX for long enough to pay of the finance and have a couple of years of "free" motoring, but that won't happen either.
