IS THIS THE WORST TRADE IN PRICE EVER

Example:
1999 Sti V Jap import, no history for first 3 years, 54K miles, some minor dings on doors ..... trade in on Evo FQ340 = £8000 against list with regular 7.9% APR finance deal.
Cash deal = 1600 discount + 50% interest free for 12 months. So even selling privately for 8k makes me better off by about £2500, but selling for 10K (more realistic value) puts me at 4500 better off than trade in - ie, REAL margin for dealer on this deal!
It seems to me, from what I have seen recently (including MPV purchase in January for the missus) that 4K or so seems to prevail between cash vs 'trade in' once all is said and done!!!

I have a sti8 ppp to part exchange 11,300 miles, 18" speedlines, mudflaps and have been to 4 mitsubishi dealers and cant get anywhere near £20,000 against a 340 mr. They have all said no subaru garage will cooperate with them. I am a bit pi--ed of after having 3 subarus and wanting a change.

Paul, this might be a good comparison for you.
I have just traded in my MY01 WRX UK car, with Sti alloys, PPP and 18.5k on the clock for a brand new UK Sti with PPP. The payment required was £12,800. This equates to a trade in value of £14,100 on the list price for the STi (plus PPP) - or a discount on the list price whichever way you want to look at it.
At the same time I was speaking to Litchfield and the maximum they offered was £10k trade-in. So as much as I lusted after the Spec C I could not stomach the £4k loss in trade-in.
I suggest you try a couple of dealers - typically some will offer up to a £1000 more than others. You will also get much better trade in against a new car, in my experience - since I was also looking at a second hand MY02 Sti - but the trade in just did not add up.
If you are interested in the dealer I used let me know.
