Well, spent some time in Germany, and they all moaned about taxes, east germans, etc etc. Not to mention when the people from the new EU countries come flooding into Germany after this Saturday.....Germany has an equal problem as the UK does for immigration issues.
So, it seems moaning about your own country is not confined to the UK.
For me, Scotland is not so bad a place. I'm sure the same micro-issues (local crime etc) exist in other countries.....
eg, moving to USA - every f*ck*r seems to own a gun. Nice & safe that one. The majority didn't elect and don't like the present goverment (sound familiar!?!). You NEED to have a car to get anywhere, and there's more trailer trash per head of population than here.
As someone else said, the grass is always greener.

Anyway, I like having 4 seasons in the year (or in one day up here in Scotland!).
Who wants sun & heat all year round!? I like the variety of cold, miserable winters, and hot (well, maybe not), sunny summers.
In the winter, there's nothing to beat cosying up in front of a roaring coal fire with some booze, and in summer there's nothing like cosying up in front of a roaring BBQ sheltering from the wind & rain while trying to drink a tinny with shivering hands

Tax!!. A old 'cliche' i know, but i would not mind paying tax if it were going into hospitals, schools, community services etc. It gets watsed on bull****e red tape £20 billion of the little pennies!!. Everything we buy is taxed to the hilt. Car owners are under the microscope constantly for........driving!!. You save your money for retirement and get bloody taxed on that!!. You work some extra time at work to spend on your kids or general living and you get heavily taxed on that!!. You work most of your life, get payed off, apply for benefit and get **** all, while someone who has never worked a day in their life gets every benefit under the sun!!. Things get more expensive, while somehow they get smaller!!. Just seems like the government is taking the ****. Don't have a problem with the country just the ***** the are running it!. No wonder people don't vote, what are the options??

this country has gone down the drain since labour got in
FA has been done to stop all these immigrants and scum coming into the UK, they get given free houses, cars, money etc
we have our own to look after first but that doesnt happen, they're just put back down the list whilst these immigrants get everything.
the UK is like a magnet for them all from all over the world, its not surprising that us brits want to get out.
i for one would move out of this country 2moro if it wasnt for the kids.

With regards to every american owning a gun, my colleage from the USA here just said in defence - we have less stabbings than the UK LOL
On a more serious note it's time we scrapped the entire welfare system (just thought I'd throw that in)

As for the Grass being greener, alot of it depends on the type of person you are, how much you integrate and the country you choose to live in.
I for one, couldn't stand to live in the USA, but I find Germany a great place to live. I've known many Brits here that hate it and can't wait to get back to the wonderfull UK. I went back to the UK for 8 months in 1999 and after 6 months couldn't wait to get back to Germany.

As for majorities and governments - if the majoirty of the UK don't like Blair's government they should vote him out - they won't of course because why leave the TV or the pub to actually go and vote when they can moan for another four years instead.

At least voting in an election is free
Sad sad state of affairs when people can't get off their asses to vote. Should be made compulsory. At least if everyone voted in a strange way (ie, minority party), it WOULD actually make the mainstream parties sit up & notice.
I wonder if SMS voting and email voting would actually increase turnout? Or are people just so apothetic.

Maybe if they introduced voting by email or via sky digital more people would vote
I also left England and moved to Germany becasue the germans offered me a job, something I failed to get for 6months in the UK.
I don't hate Germany or even dislike it I just find it a very starnge place, with its antiquated laws and customs, just when you think your getting to grips with things and start to see things differnetly something happens that completely disolusions you again and you have to start at the bottom again.
Also this is just a personal comment, the variety of food here is terrible, I would be the happiest man around if ASDA opened a supermarket here

So, you not a BIG sausage fan then Wurzel Have you noticed differences between regions of Germany in terms of strangeness?
Personally, I'd love to live in the Czech Republic, but probably only the South West after touring around last summer.

Agree with Wurzel re the supermarkets. First day in Boeblingen, and went to the supermarket after work - oh no I didn't - it shut at 6pm. OK, thought I'd go on Sat afternoon - oh no I didn't - they only open on Sat mornings and then close for the rest of the weekend......
Only when I went in Stuttgart did I find a supermarket that opened later (but not much later!).

Imlach rumour has it that they are trying to change the laws here to allow later opening hours and sunday opening.
they changed the law last July to allow shops to stay open until 8pm on saturdays, this law had been inplace since 1956.
Apparently the German shop keepers keep preventing the laws being changed, the government has been talking about it for years.
and Ozzy interesting question! this country has no end of sausages of all shapes and sizes but it is nightmre to get decent sausages that you can BBQ, most of the sausages here have that stupid frankfurter skin on them so when you put them near heat they explode, most of them are designed for boiling.
Saying taht I did find some BBQ friendly sausages in one of our mini supermarkets the other day that were were nice.

Suggestion for increasing the voting turnout to nearly 100%.
Make all TV sets prevent the showing of the second half of the footy or Coronation St./Eastenders until all eligible occupants of the house have voted electronically.
Apply similar logic to the lager taps in Britain's drinkiing establishments and cigarette dispensaries and Hey Presto nearly 100% voter turnout

Wurzel,
Tell me about it. I went to Passaut from the Czech Republic and spent a few days there. Trying to get some shopping done was a bit of an effort to say the least. My Dad loves those sausages, but personally I think the skin's like eating old leather
