I though about that, but would each drop cast a shadow? I think not.

I've not seen the photos close up as I wouldn't read the Mirror if it was free

So was just based on my photo experience.....

Likewise. I was referring to seeing them on the TV not in the paper. I'm going on my experience of compositing images to create a visual 'lie'. I'm sure your average Mirror reader won't have such experience, and therefore they will never suspect the image is actually a composite made from different images.

Guys, having seen the photos today on the 'net I'm gonna put my head above the parapet and say that they are, without much doubt, fake.

Don't think they've been photoshopped at all but they have almost certainly been staged. There is no motion in any of them and the images are just too sharp/high res to be taken by some squaddie witnessing a beating.

There's a load things wrong with the guy's kit too. The rifle (as the beeb says) is the wrong model. It also has no sling on (always do out here) and looks brand new. His webbing is a mess - the pouches are empty and open. Just doesn't happen. His trousers are tucked into his boots; again people just don't do that. Might sound daft but it's a fact. He's wearing a desert hat - squaddies rarely wear these out and about - normally berets and helmets. If they do wear them then they don't look like that. Most people have the brims cut down and they're worn as "fashion accessories" - either rolled up or squashed down, pork pie style. Not crap-hat stylee like in the pictures.

I'm not trying to defend anything here by the way - if it happened then hang the *******s out to dry. But as a serviceman, looking at those pictures, they just look so wrong - both in content and appearance.

The only good injun/******/gook/spic/raghead is a dead one!

This has been United States domestic/foreign/military policy for xxx years, in the opinion of the average redneck on the street.

The pictures certainly look too clinical, but that doesn't mean the events are not true. Iraqis have been killed while being detained and the Brit army has been quick to try and hand out hush money to the relatives.
Looks like the paper made an irresistable offer to have photos and someone obliged.

I agree with SimonH, I think they are fake or at the very least staged.

Imagine how much these "squaddies" could potentially have been paid by the Mirror for these photos. A pretty good motive to staging these pictures.

As unclebuck said these pictures just don't look right. The guy has his ammo pouch open - extremely unlikely anywhere, let alone Iraq - just for starters.

Bearing in mind the differences in uniform, weapons etc, could they not be some sort of special forces. I understood that they could choose within reason their weapons of choice?
In which case high ranking prisoners, and means justified in interogation?...just a thought. Ps not necessarily our special forces either.

Neither the SAS of SBS would touch the SA80 with a barge pole, nor would the rest of the Green Army if given a choice I'd think.
