#31
got two yellows and I am sure to see a red soon see related post, I need help....
could changing the spark plugs potentially help my problem ?
Cheers,
Ray
Bretman, can you list all your mods please becuase I think you have a similar spec to me. Do you have delta dash so I could mayeb compare a log to yours ?
Anyone else out there with a similar mod spec as me on a JDM STI7 care to send me a DD log ? Thanks

Hi Ray,
Sorry, was in Sydney on holiday... didn't see the post.
My mods are as follows:
STI7 JDM Spec '01 MY (first new age)
Scoobysport downpipe into decat 2.5" system into straight through backbox
Adjustable restrictor (flow control valve) for tweaking boost levels.
ECUTEK from Pat/Scoobysport for 98 Octane
Knocklink
Boost Gauge
Currently running a peak boost of 1.35 bar (worst case in 6th), generally peaks at 1.3 bar. Haven't had it dynoed, but estimate around 310 - 320 hp.
As I said, before ECUTEK, I would get two greens with the occasional yellow at high revs on hot days/heavy load etc. After ECUTEK remap, I get 1-2 greens worst case, no yellows (apart from that one red on dodgy fuel).
As I understand it, flickering or spikes of Knocklink activity are more likely to be DET than a general increase in activity/number of lights as revs increase (which may be engine noise).
If you are getting two yellows (i.e. four of five lights in total), then why not try winding the boost down a bit by adjusting your flow control valve (the restrictor) to say 1 bar (or connect the turbo boost line directly to the wastegate, removing the T-piece to get 0.5 bar) and see what happens then. Dropping the boost should reduce the likelihood of DET and may help to identify whether it is engine noise or not.
I seem to remember you mentioning a while back that you had some errors recorded by the engine management system. Another possibility might be a MAF sensor or something on the way out...
Hope this helps... you still have my email address, so drop me a line if I can help further. (remember though, I'm just an owner like you learning from experience, not an expert!!)

Hi Bret,
Thanks for the post. I hope you had a nice holiday !
The error codes from DD where actually just error codes when I had it on demo (doh !) and not actual error codes from my car...LOL....yes I felt very silly when I figured that out, with the dongle key in on my car no error codes...LOL
I am going to relocate the knock sensor and see if it changes things at all.....still concerned about the advanced multiplier at 11 instead of 16 so I have sent a few people my DD logs to see if they can find any problems....
I am running the EXACT same mod spec as you (I think you missed out your uprated fuel pump from the list ) so it must be possible to run this setup det free as I know you get very hot weather sometimes and I am running 98 RON octane as well.
We shall see....thanks again
